Long, who made his first team debut in the dead rubber Europa League match against FC Krasnodar in December 2014, was not handed a squad number by Roberto Martinez upon the announcement of the forthcoming first team squad numbers list earlier in the month, leading to some to speculate that the striker could be on his way out of Goodison Park.
And those rumours have proven to be correct on Tuesday with the news that the 20 year old has joined Sean Dyche’s Championship side on a three year deal, with the option of another year providing Long’s progress continues on an upward trajectory.
The forward enjoyed loan spells at MK Dons, in 2013/14, and fellow Championship side Brentford last season, where he bagged four goals in eleven appearances, and Toffees boss Martinez insisted that everyone at Finch Farm wished Long the best of luck for the future.
Martinez said: “We wish him all the best. Chris is a young, bright player, a goalscorer and a true Evertonian. We wish him well and hope it is going to be a successful move for him.”
