Ferguson came on for seven minutes in another 2-1 defeat to Villarreal which mirrored the games in the 2005 Champions League Qualifying ties and said it was an unbelievable feeling to wear the Everton shirt again.
An emotional Ferguson said after the game, “It was unbelievable.
“It was amazing and I’ve got to thank so many people.
“My family ,the fans, the players and I’d like to thank Villarreal for giving us a great game, it was just unfortunate that we couldn’t win it.
“I’d like to say a special thank you to young Wayne [Rooney] for being here today as well.
“What he’s done today tells us everything that Wayne feels about us and it’s incredible that he’s shown up today and played in the Royal Blue colours.
“I’d like to thank my chairman. He’s been absolutely unbelievable with me. He’s been superb with me and I’m so proud that he’s my chairman.
“Thank you Chairman, god bless you, I love you.”
