Rooney thrilled at Blues return

Wayne RooneyManchester United striker Wayne Rooney has said that he is delighted at the welcome he received as he played for Everton in the testimonial for Duncan Ferguson at Goodison Park yesterday.

Rooney made a 15 minute cameo appearance in his first Everton performance since leaving the Blues 11 years ago, and said that he found it a little weird at first.

He received a warm welcome from Evertonians, however, and when he came on for James McCarthy late in the second half seemed to produce Everton’s only attacking threat against Villarreal.

“Obviously a bit different today, going into the home dressing room again and it was a bit weird at first,” he said.

“I didn’t know what to expect with the reception but it was a great reception and I appreciated it.

“It was great for my kids to come along today and see me wearing an Everton shirt.”
