Roberto Martinez

Martinez: We didn’t turn up

martinezlossEverton boss Roberto Martinez has said that the game today was as bad as he has seen his side play all season.

The Blues went down 2-0 to Arsenal in what is now the 8th defeat at Goodison Park of the season and the manager was very unhappy with his side.

After watching his side brush aside Chelsea in the FA Cup last weekend, Martinez said that it was a “shame” to watch two very different performances just a week apart.

He said, “We weren’t ourselves in any area of the game and it’s such a shame to see two different performances seven days apart.

“We looked like the team who had an extra game [in midweek].

“Arsenal started with intensity and we didn’t really turn up in terms of that intensity. I haven’t seen us play that badly this season.

“Defensively we were very reactive; we didn’t anticipate anything. It was a fearful performance.

“When we come back from the international break, we cannot play with that fear, but with the quality we showed last week.
