Coleman: McCarthy unfortunate to be sent off

seamuscolemanEverton defender Seamus Coleman says his fellow Republic of Ireland international James McCarthy was unlucky to be sent off against Crystal Palace this evening.

The Blues were down to ten men in the 52nd minute as McCarthy was given a second yellow card which many felt was harsh, but showed enough grit to see out a goal-less draw.

Palace had their chances, but thanks to a combination of awful finishing and good defending at times, the Blues kept a clean sheet.

He said, “We came down wanting all 3 points so we could finish strong with a semi-final to look forward to.

“James was unfortunate to be sent off and then we had to battle it out. Joel was very good in goal.”
