Roberto Martinez believes Everton’s supporters are free to voice their frustrations after another poor display in the 1-1 draw with Watford.
A smattering of boos from the travelling Toffees’ support met the players at the final whistle for the third match in succession following Saturday’s match at Vicarage Road
The away section also held up banners reading ‘Baines is one of us’ and ‘Martinez Out’ before the Premier League contest against the Hornets.
The placards came in the wake of Martinez denouncing Baines’ comments earlier in the week that Everton’s players were lacking chemistry on the field of play – a move which angered many Evertonians across the globe.
But speaking after the stalemate in Hertfordshire, Martinez said that he and his charges sympathised with the fans’ views, before praising their vocal support throughout the 90 minutes.
He said: “We share the fans’ frustrations. The fans are allowed to express their views.
“Once the game started, the support was magnificent. For me, they are the best fans in world football. The support we have is quite unique.
“Every time we play, we know we can rely on our support. I don’t expect any fan to be happy after three defeats in the league.
“We’re not happy with it. We are a club going into an important period and clearly everything we do it is to make our fans proud.”
