Everton’s Leighton Baines has told Match of the Day magazine that, unlike some of his colleagues, he doesn’t mind pre-season’s gruelling training sessions.
The left-back gave an exclusive interview to the news outlet, and said that he isn’t overly concerned about the running aspect that comes with the pre-season territory.
He said: “I’m one of the lucky ones in that I actually don’t mind pre-season training!
“It’s always great to see the lads again after the summer break and I enjoy running so it’s not too bad.
“These days, the lads are always in good nick when they come back after the summer.
“Gone are the days when footballers let themselves go whilst on holiday. All the lads know they’ve got to put a good shift in when they come back to pre-season training.”
The 31-year-old Kirkby-born star was also quizzed on his first meeting with new Blues boss Ronald Koeman, as well as what he made of Everton’s 2016/17 away strip during the one-on-one chat.
He added: “He (Koeman) just said ‘hello, nice to meet you.’
“Everyone is looking forward to working with him and there’s such a buzz of excitement among the fans too because he’s such a big name in world football.
“I really like it (the away kit). It’s not too complicated and the fans like it too, which is important.
“I’ll give it 9/10.”
