Everton are on the cusp of completing a deal to sign Southampton’s Cuco Martina, according to the Liverpool Echo.
The right-back joined Blues boss Ronald Koeman during the Dutchman’s time in charge on the South coast.
Under new Saints manager Claude Puel, however, Martina has seen his first-team opportunities diminish.
And Koeman is said to be on hand to offer the full back a way out of St. Mary’s stadium by bringing him to Goodison Park.
Koeman has made it known that he is actively searching for cover for first-choice right back Seamus Coleman.
The Republic of Ireland international has been sidelined in the opening weeks of the new season with an ankle injury.
Young defender Mason Holgate has performed admirably in his absence, but Koeman sees the 20-year-old’s future at centre-back instead of full back.
And the 53-year-old will now plough ahead in his recruitment of Martina.
A former Feyenoord defender, Martina plied his trade in the Netherlands for four clubs before his July 2015 switch to Southampton.
He is remembered for scoring a sensational long range effort in the South coast club’s 4-0 drubbing of Arsenal in December 2015.
A Curacao international, Martina has been capped 27 times by his country.
