Everton manager Ronald Koeman believes the signing of Ashley Williams will add experience and leadership to his first-team squad.
The Dutchman was speaking after Williams completed his £12m switch from Swansea City to Goodison Park.
The centre-half replaces the departed John Stones, who left to join Manchester City £47.5m on Tuesday morning.
And Koeman said that the arrival of the 31-year-old Williams would prove to be an astute purchase in the coming seasons ahead.
The 53-year-old remarked: “We wanted to bring in a strong player in the central defence position, a player who knows the Premier League and Ashley fits the bill for us very well.

“He is an experienced defender and the kind of player we need in the team.
“He is a leader. He showed this at Swansea and he has shown it for his country and he is looking forward to his new challenge here at Everton.”
Williams will contest with club captain Phil Jagielka, as well as Ramiro Funes Mori, for a place in Koeman’s starting eleven for the 2016/17 Premier League curtain raiser against Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.
