The Blues were hit in injury time after putting in a monumental effort to press Liverpool high up the pitch and press for a goal to protect.
“I think it was a very good team performance,” said the boss.
“I think maybe it was the best first 45 minutes, we made it very difficult and we were very aggressive and we had the big chance from the header off the corner kick.
“The second half we had it more difficult but even the substitutes of Liverpool had a big impact on the final result.
“We did everything that we could tonight but we didn’t get the ball so much in the second half but the team didn’t deserve to lose the game.
“The fight was too good to get this big disappointment.”
On Ross Barkley’s challenge on Jordan Henderson, Koeman added “Maybe he was lucky [to only get a yellow card] I don’t know because I need to see it but maybe it’s a red card.
“But after the foul there is a reaction from players, also from Coleman, but that reaction starts by Lovren and not by the Everton players.”
