McCarthy, not deemed fit enough to play more than two 90 minute stints for the Blues this season and having last played over two weeks ago, pulled up in the warm-up which looked enough to trigger another row between club and country. But it was Coleman’s injury that sunk Blue hearts even more.
The right back was scythed down by Swansea’s Neil Taylor in a tackle which can be – for a family audience – only described as that which resembles an outside toilet.
The Welshman was immediately dismissed as Coleman lay devastated and clearly in a huge amount of pain being comforted by team-mate Shane Long.
Coleman was taken from the pitch on a stretcher and judging by his own reaction to the injury could be out for several months.
Everyone at NSNO wishes Seamus and James well in their recoveries, but we also wish international football would get in the bin during the Premier League season.
