Everton captain Phil Jagielka knows that even though the Blues have captured European football at Goodison Park next season, the players need to keep Ronald Koeman happy.
Jagielka has been one of those who has found himself in and out of the side this season under Koeman, and says that nobody wants to give the boss an excuse to bring someone else in to replace them in the summer.
“It’s important we do finish our season well,” said the defender.
“The manager is not going to let us rest on our laurels now, even if we have secured European football.
“I’m sure the manager has got plans for his squad next season and who is going to play next season. I wouldn’t want to let him down between now and then and give him an excuse to either get someone else in or give someone else a chance next year. That’s what we all need to think about in these final few games, then have a good break and come back ready for an exciting season.
“It is a time now to put a marker down for next season. It’s up to all the players to make sure they’re in the manager’s mind for next season. We still need to put in good performances in the last games of the season.”
