The Evertonian midfielder struggled to find his form last season and with just a year left on his contract was given an ultimatum by Ronald Koeman at the end of the season.
Koeman, pestered by reporters at every opportunity, said that Barkley had until before the end of the season to sign a new deal or be sold, but nothing happened.
Now, though, after weeks of talks, Barkley is said to be ready to sign a new contract at Goodison Park.
Barkley will find himself behind new signing Davy Klaasen in the pecking order at Everton, but could benefit from no longer being expected to be first choice.
