Everton forward Gerard Deulofeu will return to Barcelona as the Catalans exercise their right to buy him back.
Currently in Poland on international duty for the Spanish Under 21 set-up, Deulofeu had fallen out of favour at Goodison Park and it was clear early on that he would never form part of Ronald Koeman’s plans going forwards.
At times unstoppable, Deulofeu gave Everton fans some moments of genius to enjoy in a loan spell from Barcelona before re-signing after 12 months for around £4m.
Now, after a loan spell in Milan last season, Barcelona have used the buy-back clause in his contract to take him back to the Camp Nou for around £9m.
The Barcelona statement read: “FC Barcelona have activated the buy-back clause for Gerard Deulofeu.
“In the following days, the terms will be agreed with both Everton and the player. Deulofeu’s contract will run until 30 June 2019.”
We wish Geri all the best, and thank him not only for his great moments of play, but for always being a good sport on social media and taking part in an interview for our Everton fanzine.
