Allardyce: Effort from Everton was outstanding

Allardyce after SwanseaEverton boss Sam Allardyce says he is very satisfied with the point against Chelsea at Goodison Park today which keeps his unbeaten run as Everton manager going.

The Blues were defensively solid against a Chelsea side who were incapable of breaking down the back line which just a few weeks ago would have crumbled under the strain.

But under Allardyce, there is a new found strength at the back, even if that means that goal threats against the Sky Four are kept to a minimum.

“In terms of effort and commitment and defensive stability and organisation we’ve played against an incredibly talented front five,” said Allardyce.

“We’ve had a little bit of luck here and there, but when needed, Jordan Pickford is in the right place for us.

“But we’ve rolled up our sleeves today and dug it out.

“We didn’t deliver enough quality until the end when we could have snatched it with Michael Keane’s free header but it’s a well earned point.

“It keeps the undefeated run going and it’s a point against Liverpool and Chelsea who are in the top four and you have to respect getting a point against the big boys.

“We’ve got to convert the ability from the training ground onto the pitch but it’s always difficult against the big boys and you have to do the defending right.

“The effort from the players – all 14 – was outstanding.

“We’re well satisfied with the point and the undefeated run.

“We’re lifting a lot of spirits and the players are developing confidence which is what they need, and that confidence will always help us to get better and better.”
