Rooney: It’s always nice to score against Liverpool

Rooney-Everton (1)Everton forward Wayne Rooney says it is always nice to score against Liverpool, no matter who you play for!

The boyhood Evertonian scored his first Merseyside derby goal with a penalty late on at Anfield to snatch a point in a game where Everton looked like they had their backs against the wall.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin was pushed over by Lovren at the end of a through-ball from Rooney, and Rooney stepped up to blast the ball down the middle and level the scores to keep Everton in the top half of the Premier League.

“It’s always nice to score against Liverpool, no matter who you play for,” he said.

“It’s a good point away from home and it keeps our run of games going from the last few weeks.

“I think Lovren kicked the ball away and I had a bit of time to compose myself and I knew where I was going.

“I practised penalties yesterday and thankfully I got it right.

“It’s a clear penalty, he’s pushed him over and I think the referee’s made a great decision.”
