Brands: We are lucky to have young attacking players

Marcel Brands

Everton’s Director of Football, Marcel Brands, has said that the Blues are in a privileged position to have three strikers all aged 21 with such huge potential and ability.

Brands said that he recognises that Everton fans are hoping to see the Blues sign a striker capable of scoring 20 goals a season, but he warned that with three youngsters all with such abilities, it would be unwise to replace one of them.

He was also quick to remind people that Everton have two of the top scorers in the league, with Richarlison and Gylfi Sigurdsson both towards the top end of the scoring charts, on 9 and 8 respectively.

Brands seems well aware of his task, and how he hopes to go about it, and he has already won over many Evertonians with his attitude towards the club and his job.

Speaking to the Liverpool Echo ahead of the clash with Brighton tomorrow, Brands said, “I think we are a very, very lucky club in England that we have three players with great potential who are just 21-years-old – we have Dominic, we have Richarlison and we have Ademola.

“And if I bring in a new player, a huge striker or a name, should I destroy one of them?

“It is also my goal to protect those boys. Everyone agrees with me that they have great potential and a great future.

“Ademola showed in half a year in the Bundesliga that he could score, he got six goals in 11 games. Dominic has shown already that he can score in the Premier League and I don’t want to destroy those big talents.

“Ok, they need some time and we have to give them time and confidence for the future to show that potential and, for me, it will hurt me if we destroyed those talents because everyone is jealous of those type of talents.”
