It has been claimed today that James McCarthy is on the verge of a move from Everton to Celtic as Sky Sports reporter and all-round transfer enthusiast Jim White states on his radio show.
McCarthy has struggled to find a way back into the first team since returning from an horrific injury that saw him miss almost a year of football, and has been linked with the Bhoys in the past.
The Republic of Ireland international, who signed from Wigan in 2013, has never quite managed to nail down a starting place since Roberto Martinez was sacked as Everton manager in 2016, but is still seen as good back up at the club.
However, it is believed that he will want to play regular football, and with his family living in Scotland then this would be a move closer to home.
Everton will want to recoup a large amount of the #13m paid for him in 2013, which shouldn’t be a problem for Celtic, should they go ahead with the move.
“Celtic are set for a recruitment meeting today with two possible signings on the agenda, Omar Elabdellaoui and Everton’s James McCarthy.” He told his TalkSport show.
“The meeting is to decide who is or isn’t coming to the club. Omar Elabdellaoui is one name but, get this, James McCarthy from Everton is a possible target, on loan from Everton.”
