Everton Director of Football Marcel Brands says he is not in the business of firing managers without giving them time to work first, giving his support to Marco Silva in the Everton hot seat.
Silva has been subject of what some may describe as rash calls from Everton fans to be given the sack after failing to win the Premier League in December, but Brands says that is not his way.
Having only taken over as the club’s Director of Football last summer, around the same time as Silva was appointed manager, Brands says that it disrupts a club when the manager is sacked, something Everton have known all too well over the last three years.
Now, he wants to give Silva time, and with the way results are at the moment, those wails to have the Portuguese removed from the Everton manager role have died down from outside the walls of Goodison too.
“One of the most difficult things in my job is to find the right manager, that is one of the most important guys in the club and if you find him, give him the time,” Brands explained, as quoted by Sky Sports.
“Give him the possibility to work and if the manager is fitting in the club, fitting with the culture, then make a plan, and go step-by-step.
“Sometimes you have to change the plan a little bit but I am not the guy – and have never done so – who changes the whole direction of the club.
“We had a lot of changes in the last three of four years but when the manager gets sacked, the club would bring a whole new staff. That is not good for a club.”
