Everton playmaker Gylfi Sigurdsson says he is happy with the way that pre-season is going, as the Blues were held to a goalless draw in Switzerland by FC Sion.
The Icelander joined up with the squad as they headed out to the Swiss training camp, and played his first 45 minutes of pre-season, hitting the bar and the post in a typical pre-season workout.
High up the Alps, Everton fielded a mix of youth and experience as the pre-season continues to step up the race for fitness and first team places in the first Premier League of the season against Crystal Palace.
He joined several young players who have travelled with the squad after winning the Premier League Two title last season, with the likes of Richarlison still enjoying a break after international duty.
Speaking to the official site, he said, “I think we played alright, a lot of the boys were playing their first 45 minutes and there’s still a long way to go but we are happy with the start.
“Of course, these pre-season friendlies aren’t always the quality we want because of the intense training we do.
“The altitude is really good [for us] and the weather is fantastic, so it was a good day for us. We’ve got another five days of training ahead of us now and it’s going to get tougher.
“We’ve got another game [against Monaco on Friday] but the most important thing is the work we put in inbetween those games.”
