By the end of the month, Evertonians had pledged more than the target needed to print 10,000 copies of the magazine and work began in earnest to produce something everyone could be proud of.
The magazine was sent to the printers on the 8th September 2015, with the aim to distribute the bulk of the copies at the game at Goodison Park between Everton and Chelsea – and the front cover represents this!
Chelsea had been merciless – and shameless – in their pursuit of the young England defender throughout the summer, and Evertonians had been buoyed by the club’s stance that Stones was not for sale. At any price.
Evertonians quickly penned a new song for Stones, to the tune of the Beatles “Money Can’t Buy me Love” and the headline was written…..”Money can’t buy you Stones.”
The issue also features an interview with a former Everton player who won the lot with the Blues, a former Liverpool player who talks about what it was like to play against Everton, and features on Roberto Martinez, new signing Tom Cleverley, and, of course, the John Stones saga.
The fanzine is available from several pubs around Goodison Park, including; The Thomas Frost, The Winslow, Players Lounge, and The Black Horse, as well as being available upstairs in St Luke’s Church.
You can also get a copy if you live away from Goodison or can’t make it to the match, by clicking through this link.
Because we did this to get a printed fanzine back on the streets around Goodison Park, we have taken the decision not to make it available to download, sorry.
