Tosun is obviously terrible and hasn’t got a future here, but it’s still probably the right selection - providing we give Simms 30 mins at the end. Seen nothing to suggest Simms could play this level yet, let alone up top on his own.

Could always fudge the formation a bit and get Simms in alongside Tosun, in 442, I guess.

Simms doesn’t seem to have risen to the challenge of breaking into the team. Ancelloti obviously doesn’t trust the kids too much, but also it seems like it’s a merit system, as much as anything. He’s not going to give sentimental game time to young lads who think they’ve made it because they look good in the U23s. They’ve got to earn it.

Simms honestly just looks like  giant when he plays U23 and bullies everyone with his size.

Haven't actually seen him look like a PL potential player but I have only seen him play a couple times so who knows.

I saw a pre-season friendly against Rotherham about 20 years ago at their old ground. We won 1-0, Kevin Campbell scored the winner.

As omens go....

Same, although I’ll be shouting “Fuck off, Tosun” at my tele by 12:01.

They’ve played a lot of games and they go back to playing a lot of games, after this. DCL had a slight hamstring strain in the West Ham game. The squad isn’t great, but should be good enough to beat a struggling Championship team.

You might be old school but you still saw how we played the same players for 6 games in 19 days and how their performances slowly dipped due to fatigue. Not to mention the risk of injuries playing when not 100% fit because of a small rest, Allan for example.

We have a big game against Wolves in 3 days so if you want to best players 100% fit for that then you need to use the squad. A match against relegation fodder in the league below is a perfect opportunity.
