Theres always blurred lines with a DoF's role, but I imagine it's to:

1. Come to an agreement with the manager on first team signings
2. Get the best deal possible for those signings
3. Get the best deal possible for outgoing transfers
4. Find appropriate loans for young talent
5. Recruit the right young players

He seems to have hit all of these this summer, except maybe number 3.

I think in fairness, if he actually move them on that would be a miracle. Not much call for high wage flops who realise they won't be paid anything like here but somewhere else... l am still slightly gutted Besic didn't work out or prove good enough.

A new three year contract for Brands next season would tie in with the three years remaining for Mr Ancelotti
I would think that it would make more sense to tie him in for a bit longer than 3 years tbh. The whole idea of having a DOF around is to maintain continuity and manage transitions. If Don Carlo decides to call it a day after his initial stint is done, then a DOF will be pretty pivotal in identifying, recruiting and bedding in his replacement. Having a DOF around who has been around for some time, knows the club inside out and is fully onboard and in tune with the club's ambitions is invaluable.

Brands is yet to have his current 3 year contract extended, with discussions to resume in January

And to include consultation with Mr Ancelotti, one would assume

Surely itís a no brainier he will get a new contract?

Donít even think weíve seen the best of his abilities yet the main priority for quite some time has been to get rid of a lot of shite.

He was questioned by the fans in the beginning but as times gone on he seems to be done better. Think he can focus more on recruitment now.

Weíve also not been able to sign any academy players have we? Or has that ended? As Iím sure Iíve read one of his main assets is developing the academy and bringing in better prospects.

I knew that someday I was going to die, and I knew that before I died, two things would happen to me. That number one; I would regret my entire life, and number two; that I would want to live my life over again.

Hardly surprising, all you need to do is look on here to see his signings get lambasted every week. He has had 1 success, Digne. Ricky was Silva's player just like James and Allan were Carlos. I'm not sure if we've ever committed to what he could offer, but I really don't see the point of him under the current model or regime

Although I read somewhere the other day that the board were relaxed and don't negotiate exec deals until the new year and we're optimistic about keeping him?

Most people have no concept of the DOF role at all they think itís all about is recruitment..recruitment...re cruitment......

Thatís only a part of the role and in a lot of cases a small part...

Itís about culture, strategy, ethos, development, management, focus, future, legacy, establishing systems building ďback roomĒ, teams, sciences etc etc etc.....all in a football sense of course........oh and yes recruitment....

Bollocks anyway.

Brands has a place on the board. He is here to stay.

Doesn't really mean anything, it's not a life commitment.
There is quite a bit of talk that he might not want to stay as it's not a traditional DoF role like he was used to, it was when we had Silva as he was coach, but Carlo is the manager, and as we've seen over the summer he will have a much bigger say on who we recruit

Allan and James couldn't be further away from the vision he outlined, so don't think theres a single grain of truth in that
