I'm not sure what I expect from Brands, all we seem to do is debate how shit all of his signings have been.

Joshua zirkzee, currently banging goals for bayern.

That's a bit of a stretch, lol. But point taken. He's got future stud written all over him. And they have Davies, Cuisance, Batista Meier, and so forth.

4 goals in 5 appearances is quite literally banging goals
I knew that someday I was going to die, and I knew that before I died, two things would happen to me. That number one; I would regret my entire life, and number two; that I would want to live my life over again.

You're basing positive impressions on Juve and RB Leipzig being reportedly interested. Despite the fact you have obviously never heard of him before this morning.

On a free we're likely to turn a profit on him either way, so I'm not arsed. I've not written him off. I'm just saying that, on the balance of probabilities, I'm not expecting him to be a regular first team player for us. Because young lads who don't get a sniff (even out somewhere on loan) in their teens either have injury problems or just haven't got high enough potential to begin with.

On the balance of probabilities you wouldn't expect much of two lads from Barnsley and Sheffield Utd with barely a handful of games between them but they are two of the first names on the teamsheet.

Give it a rest hey and let the kid arrive first.

Holgate had been a regular starter for Barnsley for half a season. Calvert-Lewin had around a full season of getting action off the bench with around 10 starts.

You could judge these players against men. Any judgement made about Nkounkou is being made based on his performance against kids. And as a kid, judging against other French kids his age, he's not exactly pulling up trees either with 1 cap at under 18s and 2 caps at under 19s and none of them were in competitive games.

On a free, it's fine. I'm really not criticising it as a signing. He might be good, literally none of us know, and from reports he seems to have gone to the place he thinks he'll get most gametime. And when he gets gametime, he'll have my full support.

But over the years I've seen us sign plenty of 19 year olds with no first experience get bought up, thrown into the reserves/u23s and then thrown away.

Well if what Brands has said about watching him for some time, then we just have to trust that they have seen something about him that has impressed them enough to think there's a good chance he can cut it and offer him a deal.
At that age, and on a free, it's  a very low risk deal. He either develops into a player for the first team, gets sold on at a profit or gets released at the end of his contract. Even if it's  the last one, the cost to the club is minimal.

FWIW, if this article is true and he does end up getting decent minutes on loan in the Championship, I'm more positive about it.

I've based a lot of my criticism of it on the earlier reports that he'd be thrown in to the  u23s for next season. Him going into the u23s and not having a sniff with Digne and Baines in front of him? Hate it, waste of time. Him being on the books and getting decent minutes elsewhere? Much better.

(The proviso being, of course, that if he goes on loan he actually does need to get on the pitch there. That hasn't been the case with too many of our loanees recently.)

This is his agent talking, basically saying he's litter and Marseille don't even think he's good enough to be back up. Be surprised if we ever see him

“In Marseille, you have Amavi, Rocchia, Sakai, Sarr and even Khaoui who played in the left-back position. Niels did not get a minute of play. We, therefore, consider that Niels' chances of playing at Marseille are slim. Especially since Marseille is looking for a left-back to compete with Amavi. This is the reason why we chose Everton.”
