Well I don't imagine he asks for regular updates. But when contract renewal time comes around, he's going to ask about the plans like any top player would who wants to win things. And we should be selling it to him, the way clubs who want to keep their best players do.

It's pretty obvious the direction in which the club is going isn't it?

It is to me, and I'm nowhere near as close to the inner sanctum as our Rom.

100% this. Spurs are the example, how many of their top players have renewed contracts in recent times (some such as Alli and Kane have done it several times).

Maybe it is hard to complare because they are up there already so the project is in full flow and when it did start the likes of Kane were much younger than Lukaku. But still, sell ourselves to him, tell him of the targets, the spending power, who our top targets are

Maybe if he sees a big singing or two in the form of VVD, etc he might see that we can match his ambition

Aye. He's 24 soon and he's been playing top flight football since he was 16 and never touched the Champions League despite gradually becoming one of the top strikers in Europe.

I think it's unfortunate timing that just as we are about to really push on, he's getting to the stage where he's becoming a top player in the league. If our growth had come a year or two earlier, it would've synchronised much better.

For that reason, I'd keep him whatever happens this summer, go big in the transfer window and try to have a big season next year and see if he's more amenable then. If not, fair enough, but he's a tremendous player and if we got some other top quality with him, the team could really soar.
The highway's jammed with broken heroes on a last chance power drive. Everybody's out on the run tonight but there's no place left to hide. Together, Wendy, we can live with the sadness, I'll love you with all the madness in my soul.

How come the Echo didn't use this photo instead of the one headlined "looking miserable next to Everton badge" they were taken within minutes of each other.

It's nonsense. Just say I want to play for a club at a level we aren't at. Weren't ever going to be realistically at at this stage or the near future or maybe even ever and now I can.
He's making out like we've fallen short of what he believed and was promised. It's nonsense. The truth is no one is to blame. He wants to play for Chelsea and we aren't at that level and maybe he now is. Instead he's implying we've fallen short. We really haven't. We had no chance of meeting his ambition and he knows that. Nowt to do with players we haven't signed

Agreed. If we bumble through the first part of the summer transfer window then every fan would be saying what he's said. Criticising us as we're not in the top 4 when we're not even a year into the turnaround of the club, even though in that time we've; secured a top manager, turned the club around from top to bottom, cleared the debt, more or less secured a new stadium and are still within touching distance of top 4... is a bit low in my opinion. Especially as the season isn't over yet.

Wasn't this season always going to be about finishing in a europa league spot then next season to have a side capable of challenging for the top four. This summer is surely going to be make or break for the manager and for one or two players. Get 4 or 5 top draw players and kick on if not then we end up chasing the top 6 and the manager and players move on.

Why should Lukaku be informed of all the boards plans? We pay him to score a fuckton of goals, not be well informed on what carat gold Moshisi shitter is going to be plated at the Bramley Dock Megadome.

Because we managed to get an extra year out of him based on selling the project to him. Because he has a right to know (as do all the players) that the club is going in the direction that will match their ambitions. And because of the statement's Moshiri has made in the past about pushing on.

I'd like to know what has happened between his agent saying everything is 99.9% done and Lukaku saying he's not signing. Is it as simple as a change of heart or has he heard something he didn't like in his discussions with the club.

His agent is still quite positive about reaching an ageement over the new contract, well according to Jim White anyway
