We were worse without him than with him.
Sigurdsson "in his preferred position" has been apalling so far.

I thought we definitely needed him on the pitch yesterday. It's all well and good throwing forwards on hoping to score goals but you need to get hold of the ball, create pressure, force them back and the only way you can do that is by having people who get hold of the ball. He might be frustrating at times how deep he comes but we were so poor at getting the ball high up consistently, or any kind of retention that we needed to solve that problem before throwing DCL next to niasse then Sandro on as well.

I'd have brought Rooney on instead of DCL at half time had him off niasse and moved gylfi left. We needed more people who take up better positions to receive the ball to get us some control of the game, Rooney does that better than DCL and niasse who look to push higher up but it left us with nothing in between them and than midfield or any real consistent way of getting the attacking players into good positions.

Hes the only player we have at the minute who is able to creatively develop possession into attacking play. On top of that he scores goals.

He's far from perfect but to say "oh I don't like how he comes deep so therefore let's drop him from the team", especially when given the limited alternatives, is frankly a bit ridiculous.

This sums it up.

I agree with the OP. We have no quality on the ball from anyone in the team at present.Rooney has to play. He can come off the bench for 30 min and his experience will be vital or to start games. He can play as a number 10 or even slightly deeper when we have more possession.
Aside the quality little ball for Niasse goal or his other run at the defence or the ball that put Sandro in twice to cross ...lennons two crosses to nesr post resulting in corners ....yeah we had none of them yesterday 😅😅.
