If one signing epitomised our last regime this was it.

We should get more than we paid for him - he's far better rested now than he was when we got him. Well-used when we got him - mint condition now like.

I wanted him to remain. I wanted him to get his chance with silva and show allardyce that there is a player there.

There might not be enough minutes for him if weíre serious about developing Davies.

And we should be, in my opinion.

There is a player inside Davies, but he seriously has to work on his pace, and his passing.

Needs to work on his silly fouls he gives away and his close control while dribbling.

Not sure what Davies has got objectively speaking, beyond a good mentality.

I do like him and would love him to kick on and be a good player, but if you asked me to list his abilities I donít think Iíd be able to put a good case forward really. Not even getting on the pitch in that u21 tournament. Regressed to the mean, maybe.

Clever and persistent movement, quick decision making. Those things might not stand out but in a midfield as brainless as ours, they are hugely important. Plus he's good at winning fouls and has a surprisingly nice weight of pass (even if the accuracy is off occasionally).

Also, despite only being 19, he's our most influential midfielder. We played approximately 0 minutes of competent football with him on the bench this season.

..............can hardly blame Allardyce when Koeman ,the manager who signed him ,didn't play him either.

To be honest I think itís obvious why the Dutch havenít qualified for this World Cup based on the few times I have seen klass on the pitch, heís lightweight, pace less and unless he has time on the ball which our league wonít afford visionless. Good luck lad cos cruff your not!

Overegging it a bit if weíre being honest but thatís OK, happy to get behind him.

He is a fairly decent pass and move cm which I think added a bit of balance which helped.

Heís made a couple of very nice little through balls in his career but nowhere near the amount to get excited about like.

And yes he does win fouls very well. Unfortunately it is the only way he can get away from a player 1v1, as he lacks any sort or pace, acceleration or tight turn.

I dunno. Fingers crossed for him but unfortunately his stock has dropped a bit.

Can't see him fitting in to Silva's formation and tactics.  He doesn't get involved enough, isn't a box to box type player and isn't powerful.

He's probably been told he's not wanted and so is happy to leave.

I don't think you watched that goal he scored against City enough...

He's not rapid, but he's also not slow either. He's just average. I'd say he's either quicker or on a par with Milner, Henderson or Can; than Mata, Herrera, Fellaini or Matic; than Xhaka or Ramsey; than David Silva (or, clearly, Yaya Toure and Gael Clichy); than, say Eric Dier.

Maybe he needs to learn how to create a bit more space for himself in the Premier League, but he's definitely not slower than the average player.

Klassen is so poor he can't even hold his own in his own thread.

Heís slow

I was gonna quote your earlier post with his goal against Man city - as per @van der Meyde (http://www.nsno.co.uk/forums/index.php?action=profile;u=12) - so I looked it up.

And you're right. It's not that pacey at all.

But you know what - he still moves in the right direction (forward) which a lot of them don't do.

And you know what else? Still worth another watch   :)

Love this. Especially when he takes a moment to fall on his face and just think about what he has just done. Then goes celebrates with the crowd. Then gets mobbed by the scousers in the team   :)

He backflicked the ball past Yaya Toure for that goal, which doesn't give an accurate reflection of anyone's speed.

Lol..tis a bit confusing which player is being discussed.

But it does illustrate that saying he has nothing to get away 1v1 is actually bollocks.

My point was never that he was pacy though. He's not. He's just not slow either.

Could say that

Or you could say taking individual 30 second highlight of the game of his life is not representative of his overall abilities.

I think Tom has gone backwards slightly, but that's hardly surprising given the crazy management situations we've found ourselves in. I think Silva could be a good catalyst for another leap forward for the lad, and I've no doubt Silva and Brands know him and want to develop him. I'm optimistic about what the new managerial change could mean for him.

It's not really uncommon for young players to have a worse second season, is it? That's often more to do with teams just finding ways to exploit his weaknesses and deal with them, rather than players regressing though.

He's still comfortable on the ball, he still generally makes the right decisions. The opposition are giving him less time on the ball and marking him more closely. The passes he likes to play into the channels or drilled into the attackers run haven't been available as frequently due to our tactics and personnel.

He's also often slightly out of position defensively which has been exploited plenty of times, which has led to him giving away those niggly fouls. That's not because he's slow, but because he's starting 5 yards further back than he should be.

I'm not being an apologist for him here. His performances weren't great, but the raw attributes are still there. And holefully, as you've said, with better coaching and more experience he'll have the nous to be effective again.

Been an awful spell to be a young player with us the last 2 managers, hopefully things will be better from now on, love to see Davies be at the heart of a new dawn...and bye Davey lad.
