Klaassen reportedly happy to leave Everton

If one signing epitomised our last regime this was it.

We should get more than we paid for him - he's far better rested now than he was when we got him. Well-used when we got him - mint condition now like.

I wanted him to remain. I wanted him to get his chance with silva and show allardyce that there is a player there.

There might not be enough minutes for him if weíre serious about developing Davies.

And we should be, in my opinion.

There is a player inside Davies, but he seriously has to work on his pace, and his passing.

Needs to work on his silly fouls he gives away and his close control while dribbling.

Not sure what Davies has got objectively speaking, beyond a good mentality.

I do like him and would love him to kick on and be a good player, but if you asked me to list his abilities I donít think Iíd be able to put a good case forward really. Not even getting on the pitch in that u21 tournament. Regressed to the mean, maybe.

Clever and persistent movement, quick decision making. Those things might not stand out but in a midfield as brainless as ours, they are hugely important. Plus he's good at winning fouls and has a surprisingly nice weight of pass (even if the accuracy is off occasionally).

Also, despite only being 19, he's our most influential midfielder. We played approximately 0 minutes of competent football with him on the bench this season.

To be honest I think itís obvious why the Dutch havenít qualified for this World Cup based on the few times I have seen klass on the pitch, heís lightweight, pace less and unless he has time on the ball which our league wonít afford visionless. Good luck lad cos cruff your not!

Overegging it a bit if weíre being honest but thatís OK, happy to get behind him.

He is a fairly decent pass and move cm which I think added a bit of balance which helped.

Heís made a couple of very nice little through balls in his career but nowhere near the amount to get excited about like.

And yes he does win fouls very well. Unfortunately it is the only way he can get away from a player 1v1, as he lacks any sort or pace, acceleration or tight turn.

I dunno. Fingers crossed for him but unfortunately his stock has dropped a bit.

Can't see him fitting in to Silva's formation and tactics.  He doesn't get involved enough, isn't a box to box type player and isn't powerful.

He's probably been told he's not wanted and so is happy to leave.

I don't think you watched that goal he scored against City enough...

He's not rapid, but he's also not slow either. He's just average. I'd say he's either quicker or on a par with Milner, Henderson or Can; than Mata, Herrera, Fellaini or Matic; than Xhaka or Ramsey; than David Silva (or, clearly, Yaya Toure and Gael Clichy); than, say Eric Dier.

Maybe he needs to learn how to create a bit more space for himself in the Premier League, but he's definitely not slower than the average player.

Heís slow

I was gonna quote your earlier post with his goal against Man city - as per @van der Meyde (http://www.nsno.co.uk/forums/index.php?action=profile;u=12) - so I looked it up.

And you're right. It's not that pacey at all.

But you know what - he still moves in the right direction (forward) which a lot of them don't do.

And you know what else? Still worth another watch   :)

Love this. Especially when he takes a moment to fall on his face and just think about what he has just done. Then goes celebrates with the crowd. Then gets mobbed by the scousers in the team   :)

He backflicked the ball past Yaya Toure for that goal, which doesn't give an accurate reflection of anyone's speed.

But it does illustrate that saying he has nothing to get away 1v1 is actually bollocks.

I think Tom has gone backwards slightly, but that's hardly surprising given the crazy management situations we've found ourselves in. I think Silva could be a good catalyst for another leap forward for the lad, and I've no doubt Silva and Brands know him and want to develop him. I'm optimistic about what the new managerial change could mean for him.

It's not really uncommon for young players to have a worse second season, is it? That's often more to do with teams just finding ways to exploit his weaknesses and deal with them, rather than players regressing though.

He's still comfortable on the ball, he still generally makes the right decisions. The opposition are giving him less time on the ball and marking him more closely. The passes he likes to play into the channels or drilled into the attackers run haven't been available as frequently due to our tactics and personnel.

He's also often slightly out of position defensively which has been exploited plenty of times, which has led to him giving away those niggly fouls. That's not because he's slow, but because he's starting 5 yards further back than he should be.

I'm not being an apologist for him here. His performances weren't great, but the raw attributes are still there. And holefully, as you've said, with better coaching and more experience he'll have the nous to be effective again.

Doesnt sound like Davy is off to Turkey

Everton midfielder Davy Klaassen has been closely linked with a summer exit.

The Netherlands international has received interest from Besiktas after a disappointing season.

Klaassen struggled for playing time under former Toffees boss Sam Allardyce, failing to make a single appearance.

Everton striker Cenk Tosun has opened up about the future of his teammate, denying rumors that he will be joining Besiktas.

ďI asked him if he would move to Besiktas, he said a move to the Super Lig is not on the cards and that was the end of that,Ē Tosun said in an interview with the Sabah newspaper today.

Saw a video the other day of Ajax a few years ago. Three players under heavy pressure from opposition - do about 4 little triangles between them and manage to get out of it.

Our mate davy was about 5 yards away, hiding behind an opposition player and pointing back towards the goalie.

He’s crap, given up hope.

But, it's not worked out and he needs to go back to a less fast, less physical league.

Klaassen was great for Ajax before he came to us - I reckon we ship him back, keep the karma and take a hit on this one, and do a respectful deal for another one of their decent players or up-and-coming talents. Best for all parties I think. But the lad needs to be moved on.

Yep, he's looked awful. Quite telling that 3 managers didn't fancy him. Shame, as really wanted him to do well. He's our Aquilani, isn't he? Despite "wanting to fight for his place' he hasn't put on any weight or tried to help himself in that regard. Speaking of which; I thought JJK looked like he'd been in the gym over the summer - looked like he's put on good weight.

Aye noticed that. I think with JJK and AR we are sorted in the reserve full back positions. And Seamus I reckon will be with us for a good few years, a-la-Baines. We just need a new Bainesey. Tierney would be perfect - he has the fire in his belly, and would be a perfect fit. Lets have a whip'round, and help out Moshiri find the money...

Ajax might have bought him back too if they hadn't just spent about £18m on Daley Blind. I don't know if they have any talented youngsters but I'd be trying to use Klaassan as bait to send him back there as that's probably the best chance we've got of getting him off the books. We'd have to pay him off too.

I'd like to think I'm one of the less reactionary people on here and have wanted him to be given a chance but for the first time I've moved into the "sell him" camp on the back of last nights performance. He was really poor and looked totally lost, you could see he was trying, he had plenty energy and was trying to get in tackles and break up play if anything he was probably trying too hard but the fact he couldn't even have a presence against League Two opposition is a real worry and certainly an indication why Koeman, Allardyce and possibly Silva all feel he's just not suited to the English game.

Sad to see to be honest and must be hard for him given how highly regarded he was at Ajax, to go from fan favourite to flop in less than a few months must be tough.

What? That was exactly our problem. We signed a load of stats based fantasy football players rather than watched them and made informed decisions. Of course we can fault it. When you actually watch him he looks totally unsuited and a bit shit

I really want to see him succeed but Iíve just seen too much now I think.

Saw too much evidence at the time that he was a bit of a passenger who contributed only directly in front of goal (but did work his socks off) e.g passmap of a Dutch international game, Dutch or football people dicscussing him on twitter or reddit and I know individually it sounds stupid but combined with what weíve seen of him so far - I do think he is very limited with the ball. I donít think heís a clever little player at all, I actually think heís basic as fuck and at his very best would be like an Aldi Sigurdsson - he is supposed to just pop up in the box or on the edge of the box to finish or maybe lay someone off but he doesnít do it.

Sigurdsson has the same job but has shown he can do it basically.

Apparently the reasoning was the money owed to him in image rights or something. His agent didn't like the deal on the table so he stayed.

If money has nothing to do with it, there's absolutely no need to feel sad for him. He can reject 100k a week here and  rejuvenate his career in Holland, Turkey or wherever.

If he stays here, he stays because of  money, so there's no reason to pity him anyway.

And thatís the worry.  Not playing at a struggling Everton. Has a chance of a short term deal with title chasing Napoli and turns it down over money. Youíd think heíd jump at that chance

The Napoli owner insists on taking control of a players image rights when they play for Napoli.

Something which is very rare for an owner to do. Considering a players image rights are a big part of their income he has every right to turn down the move.

He wouldnít be the first player to turn down Napoli for this reason.

Would have been interesting to see him play at Napoli as Sarri had a high energy style.

In one way youíd think it wouldnít have suited him at all.

But on the flip side I think working as part of a well organised team where players are closer together and higher up the pitch would reduce the need for longer runs etc.

I actually thought his movement last night was quite interesting but the one time where he got in down the right he put in an awful cross.

How much would it be worth on a short term deal though. Napoli was a fantastic opportunity from not even making our bench. Could have used it to get a move elsewhere now had he not liked what Napoli were offering.

I think it implies heís not going to be taking much of a cut to go anywhere

This would be a result..

Huddersfield Town boss David Wagner is considering a £23m offer for Evertonmidfielder Davy Klaassen, according to a report.
The 16-cap Netherlands international flopped at Goodison Park following his arrival from Ajax last summer, making just seven Premier League appearances all season.
Klaassen was also used a further nine times in other competitions, and The Sunsuggests that Wagner is prepared to take a gamble by making an approach for the 25-year-old.
However, the Terriers could face competition from Werder Bremen, who have set their sights on Klaassen after losing Thomas Delaney to domestic rivals Borussia Dortmund.
Huddersfield have already signed six players ahead of their second season in the Premier League, including attacking midfielder Ramadan Sobhi from Stoke City

I can't see how any Premier League club would be interested and to be fair to him I can't see why he'd want to stay in the league he's clearly not suited to it.

Shame really, I thought initially like he looked to be a decent player, doesn't spend long on the ball, always looking to move it and get himself into decent positions. That's probably part of the problem, he doesn't take a lot of touches and sometimes in this league you need to take the ball and have a look around rather than one touch football. No brainer though if we can get anything like £20m back in for him and his wages off the bill.

That's probably part of the problem, he doesn't take a lot of touches and sometimes in this league you need to take the ball and have a look around rather than one touch football. No brainer though if we can get anything like £20m back in for him and his wages off the bill.

Well, he had the opportunity to get out of the PL in Jan. and decided against it for some reason...

Players donít take wage drops, why should they? The wage adjustment would probably be reflected in the fee.

Because they played shit, in a league that was clearly  beyond their standard of football, because they want to play football at club level and in his case international level instead of bench warming.
Unfortunately the young (and footballers in general) think time is endless. Why on earth they would prefer to see out the remaining three years of their nice contract rotting in the reserves rather than using the abilities they have, to actually playing and achieving things are beyond me.

As others have said, for him to take a pay cut to move elsewhere heíll get a payoff from us or a large signing on bonus from the buying club, on the proviso we knock a few million off the fee. Either way heís an expensive mistake that needs moving in so we can put whatever fee we do get towards players we actually need.

im not sure he has played that role for us.. dont think he could play that in the premier league as he seems to get knocked off the ball easily and is not really a combatative cm.

I saw him play against PAOK in the CL 2 years ago and he stood out for me (might have just been the dodgy hair) before we were even linked with him. He ran the show for them, everything was going through him and it was lots of nice 1 touch passes. Might have been the match of his life, or maybe he was just more suited to the style of his teamates.

I think you're possibly reading a bit too much into someone being on their laptop in the background of a video. He might not want to join Werder Bremen for loads of reasons. It might be the money, but then that's his prerogative. Our fault for giving him the big contract and completely misjudging the transfer.

Weíll see at the end of the transfer window.

I get he would like to make it here and play regular football to accompany his bumper contract but if that isnít going to happen, and his fourth manager decides he isnít good enough either, then he should go and play some football elsewhere.
We may have to pay him off to do so but he shouldnít be looking at least another half a season sat at home on a Saturday afternoon.

Great point that, 3 managers have seen him all the time in training so it's not even like it's getting to grips with the EPL and they are prepared to give him a run out for a few games, there appears to be a fundamental issue.

It all seems rather obvious in retrospect. The vast majority of success players in this league are quick, strong or both. The few that arenít are extremely gifted such as David Silva or are technical players with a cuntish edge, such as Herrera. Agree I took it from what it was good humour. Sad to see him go but simply, not strong or even quick enough as yet for this league, that is my opinion for what it's worth. Says something about the 5th manager actually splashing money out on you.

I hope he does well in Germany though. He's been professional while with us. Just unfortunately, not very good.

Absolutely this. I was winding myself up about the loss we 'll make but then thought to myself that Pickfords value has probably increased enough to cover both the klassen and bolasie losses which made it more bearable in tgat you win some and lose some.

Mixture of both, scouts spotted then players were watched (lots).

Anyway itís an impossible comparison as he was here years and in little danger of the sack, therefore systems of identifying players arenít comparable at the moment.

Eg he watched lescott over years. If heíd been sacked in the middle of that period, weíd never have signed him.

He tried to sign Drogba and Essien a year before they fully burst onto the scene. He also spotted Modric, although he thought at the time, he'd be too lightweight for the premier league. I'm sure there's been more top players he tried to grab, either we didn't have the monies, or he couldn't tempt them to play for us. Looking at our transfers over the last few years, he couldn't do any worse like

Its a really difficult one to assess, yes on the face of it it was a complete failure, but that entire summer was. We will never no, but it looked like our entire recruitment plans centred around getting a target man, Giroud and I think it might have been different for Davy if this did happen? Not saying he would have set the world alight, but I think it wouldve given him a better chance of success. Klaassen was hampered significantly but us not getting this over the line and by the time we did get a striker it was too late and i suspect his confidence was shot to pieces.
Anyway, thats done now and at least we got something back for him

Itís galling that in the space of a year we have accepted half of what we paid for Klaassen, who has had no injury worries and played in the Europa League final, whereas the Shite are demanding £20m for Danny Ings who has been injured for ages, and did fuck all of note before his injury worries (apart from scoring against us, obviously)

I know Klaassen wasnít suited to this league, and German teams donít overpay like EPL clubs do, but come on, he was Ajax captain, with impressive midfield goalscoring stats only 12 months ago.

It just underlines how fucking abysmal the Koeman and Walsh shit show really was.

Purely speculative, but id be surprised if we genuinely lost that much? I suspect his 23 million fee was heavily based on us achieving things, him making certain amount of appearances etc, I think we did lose out a bit, but would be surprised if its 10 million on the transfer fee, but could be wrong?

Yeah, as I implied.

But, you know, £20m for Danny Ings! 😁

They got £12.5m for Danny Ward - and his was only a Welsh premium 😉

Good luck to the guy, I expect he will do much better than he did here.

For me this has to be one of the most disappointing signings in our recent history, I remember being quite excited that he joined and thought he was the kind of key attacking player who could elevate our team to actually challenge the top 6. But it's been the opposite with 3 managers ignoring him for team selections and it sounded like the current manager was quite happy to move him on. £24m spent and it sounds like we only recouped half that money.
