Title: Everton v Wigan
Post by: Shogun on December 24, 2012, 01:11:00 AM
Anyone's guess with the team, but we really should have enough to win this game. Kick off at 3pm.

A lot is going to depend on whether Gibbos available. These appear to be the games were we should be taking all 3 points and end up drawing. l think it's now or never. After the Chelsea game we are back in amongst the average teams for a while. We  need to win this. But we might start running out of our quality first team players. Got my fingers crossed Gibson avoids the ban.

                 Howard

Neville    Jags     Distin    Baines

                Gibson

      Osman          Pienaar

                Barkley

          Vic           Naismith/vellios

Jelavic needs a rest big time.

That team has a few different ways it can set up or change through out the match.

I'm sure they'll be working as normal, given that there have been weekend games and Christmas Eve isn't a bank holiday.

Sharp was going mental on city saying we wouldnt be able to get it rescinded... I thought maybe xmas eve off was the reason

As far as i know a straight red is an automatic ban. Everton would have to appeal tomorrow after their decision is made. I'm not sure what the process is in terms of timescale. If a ban? we appeal. do they sit in committee? to either overturn the ban or uphold the ban. It's not the normal run of the mill situation. Their must be a precedent set somewhere?

I'm pretty sure that, if we're appealing, we'll have done so by the end of today. That way, whoever sorts out the disciplinary side at the FA can sift through both incidents tomorrow (which will hopefully be quickened up as the referee's reports will no doubt need to be handed in tomorrow).

Chances are they'll either rescind both red cards, or postpone the decision until after Boxing Day. I'm expecting the former to happen, but either way I think Gibson will be ok to play on Wednesday.

He's really important at the moment especially with Felli fucking up last week. I didn't think he was the bees knees yesterday, but, we just have so much more time to construct moves when he plays. Let's hope your optimism is proved right. :)

Howard

Coleman (hopefully available)
Jags
Distin
Baines

Barkley
Gibson
Osman
Pienaar

Naismith
Jelavic

What i'd like to see,

With Vics fitness record i'd have him on the bench and save him for Chelsea and although i'm not as excited about Barkley as everyone else i do believe with the players unavailable and the christmas fixtures this would be a good time to give him a game,
Neville just returning we should bench him also, i don't see the point of players who have been out being rushed back into every game with so many round the corner.

Once again, that right hand side is causing the problem. Who to put there? Anichebe? Naismith? Seems like no one was playing there on Saturday.

------------------Howard-----------------
Neville-----Jags----Distin-----Baines

------------Gibson----Osman------------
Naismith------Pienaar---------Oviedo
--------------------Big Vic------------------

Can't see Barkley being given the nod over Oviedo and I really fancy Pienaar in the hole which means breaking up Bainaar but I think we've seen Oviedo done some good things with Baines.

3-0 to us with our best back 4 in place and Pienaar causing havoc.

Rest for Jelavic

Might be a bit much to ask Anichebe to play this game as well.

from the fella on twitter who has been on with our line up in the last few weeks...

Howard Baines Distin Heitinga Jags Pienaar Gibson Neville Osman Jelavic Victor

Howard
Jagielka Heitinga Distin Baines
Gibson Neville
Anichebe Osman Pienaar
Jelavic

I hope victor actually plays as a right winger this time though, against West Ham it seemed like Jagielka was on his own there. Heitinga v Kone went well last time

I really fail to see why people want Straq back . He was awful in all but effort and his return would be akin to getting Jeffers back to sit on the bench . I would love to see Barkley but if Moyes is willing to start Hitz before giving him a go there must be a fucking good reason . We should win today but Wigan play decent football and that team may well allow them to outplay us at home .

just came back in to write this. Was just looking at it on fantasy football there. We've only failed to score once this season (WBA) and have only 2 clean sheets (Man U and Swansea). Sounds like we're heading for our overdue 0-0 draw

Only "2" clean sheets against probably 2 of the the better teams in the league...

We have let some shit goals in though against teams we have been dominating
Not forget the assistance of some some fucking dodgy decisions...

It would be so nice to just play a game well and win well instead of our hanging on as usual

5-0 my prediction league guess... It would be nice !!!

Honestly though, I'm a little worried. It's post-christmas and we should not be playing like this. Too many little mistakes. We desperately need Fellaini.

I think Jela is playing worse than Anichebe. He has given the ball away 3-4 times when trying to lay it off to midfield.

Our problem is Martinez has put 6 men in the midfield so it has clogged up any fluidity we normally have.

Jelavic is woefully out of form and short of confidence right now. Unfortunately, with injuries and suspensions, there really aren't a whole lot of options if he's dropped to the bench. Getting Mirallas back will help out, certainly.

Deserved win again. Not much in the way of excitement/chances but it's another three points to add to our tally. Thought Osman and Pienaar were very, very good again, and but for one small balls up at the back (not the goal!) thought Howard was much better too.

Tough couple of matches coming up against Chelsea and Newcastle so a win today was imperative, and a much enjoyed Christmas present.

Agree. Thought Naismith showed some good understanding with Jelavic. After he came on Jelavic seemed to be a bit more in the game.

As I mentioned earlier I though Oviedo did a good job as well. Not saying he is good enough to upend either Mirallas or Pienaar as a top winger for us but there is not a huge drop in quality when he comes in. Great squad player.

Yeah I think he and Naismith are going to be exactly what you need from squad players, versatile and relatively consistent.  I think a lot of why Jelavic looked better is he and Vic play too close together and are going for the same balls.

That is what we have been lacking for years so glad to finally have some PL quality players on the bench.

You are spot on with Vic and Jela. I think with time they can learn how to play with each other, but both are wanting to prove themselves and get goals. That is great and all, but they consistently get in each others' way b/c of that. 4-4-1-1 would suit them better so they would not be making the sam runs simultaneously.

Another well earned three points again but another soft goal conceded. The penalty decision is a hard one to call, Ossie was soft to leave his leg out but I think Maloney leaned into it rather than being clipped.

On a side note congrats to Phil Neville on his 500th Premier League game, great achievement by a model pro
