Title: Swansea V Everton
Post by: Jimmywhack on March 22, 2012, 07:28:23 PM
I would expect numerous changes for this with the cup game up and coming

Worryingly tho if we lose this and its gonna be a very hard game that will be 3 straight league defeats

2 1 Swansea for me

This will be a really tough game for us,swansea are great at home and play good football.but i will still say a win to us, 2-1.

Now the league has been stuffed up by the last two games, I'm inclined to now say fuck it, and rest certain players for the Sunderland game.

Fellaini would certainly be benched for me. Could be a good game to start the likes of Barkely, as it is likley to be an open game given Swansea's approach.

Not sure whether it would bee a great game for Barkley or Junior. Swansea will have the lion share of possession so we'll be chasing the game a lot.

coming to something when we're bigging swansea up.

i think we should play our strongest squad (and try to win) in EVERY game.

90 minutes a week isn't the norm any more. time we got used to it.

I'd rather protect players from injury/suspension ahead of the biggest game we've had since 2009 rather than risk them in a meaningless game like this.

Expecting Jelavic, Cahill and one of Heitinga and Distin to be rested for this one.

They've only been beaten twice at their place, have one of the best home defensive records in the league, we all know what they can do attacking and possession wise and their confidence will be sky high with recent results.

Can't see anything other than a loss considering the form we're showing. The only hope we'll have to press them from the off, force them into a few early errors and try and nick a goal early on... just can't see that happening though.

1-0 to them.

maybe you're right, maybe not, but i would hardly call any of our games 'meaningless'. every place up the table is much needed money.

i have this novel idea that the manager should always pick his best 11 players.

reserves are there, a. to make every effort to impress the manager, and hopefully break into the first team. b. to be available in the case of injury or suspension to a first-teamer. that’s when they get their chances. simples.

trying to be clever just fucks everything up, as we’ve seen.

As long as we kill the pace of the game we've got a chance. IF we try play them at their game we shall lose.  0-0 or 1-1 i think

I think there is an element of the emporers new clothes growing up around Swansea. They have had a great season but Brendan Rodgers has not re-invented football and their form is much exagerated - they have won 6 of 14 at home and Norwich beat them 3-2 not so long ago.

I think they will prove difficult to beat but will go with a 1-0 to us.

Decent home record, not conceeded many, we can't score...

I have no idea why, but I fancy us to thump them 5-1.

Pienaar, Jelavic, Jelavic, Anichebe, Anichebe, Sinclair.

Massive changes for me...

                 Howard
Hibbert. jags   Heitinga.   Baines
            Gibson  pienaar
Anichebe     Barkley      Guaye
                   Straq

If gibson is out still get junior in there! Dare I say it... Maybe even give mcffaden a game on the wing. There was a hell of lot of running around after the ball against arsenal. And this game means nothing!

Moyes got the tactics spot-on in the game at Goodison. Stopped them playing it out from the back to Britton and their full-backs. Made them look average when they had to go more direct, Hopfully we can do the same at their place. We need to postive though, our game-plan shouldn't be all about stiffling them.

I think we'll win 2-1. Jelavic (2), Sigardsson.

Drenthe/Vic      Piennar

             Jelavic

i wouldn't mind seeing vic get a run out, but you cant deny what drenthe brings to the side, and i wouldnt mind cahill being dropped but i think there have been one or two signs of cahill and jela linking up...anybody else feel like that or am i being overly optimistic?

It'll be tough. The defence will have to play a belter and Big Fellaini will need to try and dominate the middle of the park. Problem is, even if that happens, they're still more likely to score more goals than us!

Anybody heard of any rumours surrounding Drenthe, someone on twitter claims he's been informed that he was out on the piss last night and not in a fit state to be involved today.

Could be bollocks but maybe someone is hearing similar or different things?.

Back to the game. I wasn't confident of us getting a win at Swansea today anyway, not with them in good form and solid at home and us going about games the way we do, standing off and inviting pressure, i felt Swansea would have a field day with time and space that we allow teams.

But looking at that midfield i think it could be a long day at the office for us. Neville in CM says it all for me, he's slow and the 3 in midfield for Swansea will pass round him all day, and Swansea are just as good off the ball with there closing down and work rate so the likes of Neville, Hibbert and Cahill who aren't very good on the ball and panic when under pressure will come unstuck today and either get forced into playing back alot or giving the ball away cheaply or hoofing it, same with Ossie really, being put under pressure he can come unstuck aswell at times and dwell on the ball.

I'd of probs gone with Stracq upfront today for his work rate, don't get me wrong, Jelavic puts himself about but Stracq chases all day long and we'll need that up top today to stop them playing from out the back and getting into there rhythm.

We never do or its very rare but we need to press the opposition and get in there faces and further up the pitch aswell, we cant just get in are banks of 4 and 5 and sit deep in our half and let them play in front of us cos Swansea will just keep the ball for fun and break us down eventually, they don't panic and in a matter of passes go back and then long up front like a certain team i know, and funnily enough support, they'll just keep on playing and playing, from left to centre to right and back until gaps appear and then they can exploit it!. That's why for me we need to start pressing higher up the pitch and stop there backline playing into midfield and cut off that supply and force them into a different game, we have to get close and spoil the game and turn it into are favour, a battle and then we might come away with something.

May aswell have Gueye in there at least he plays direct and has pace

Hibbert, Osman, Neville, Gibson, Cahill all anti footballers can afford a couple of these dead-heads but not a team of them

I don't think you will find people who hate Jags, but those who don't understand why you drop an in form Heitinga for a Jags who hasn't played well as of late. It makes no sense. If you are going to drop someone for Jags to get time it is Distin. I say that not because I have any doubt in Distin's quality but that he will not be with us much longer. Jags and Tinga will be or partners in the middle in the future so why not get then on together now.

Needed: A right back, a passing midfielder and another goal scorer to partner a creative, attacking central midfielder to play in behind or off Jelavic.

There, sorted it for ya mate.

Were doing well and closing them down higher up the pitch and stopping them getting into any rhythm. Jags as actually been good at the back and read things very well. Gibson is doing well aswell i think, especially off the ball, getting his foot in, tracking back but also calm and composed on the ball.

We had a decent spell towards the end of the half but seemed to lack in any creative ideas. It frustrates me to see it and it happens every game and were insistant on going wide and working things outwide, we never look to open teams up through the centre. We have to mix it up and not always look to get Baines in out on the left. We go down the right and Hibbo hasn't got a clue and always goes back or inside so it never comes to anything wide right so more often than not we play it down the left.

We have to start looking to go through the centre. Jelavic is making runs and pointing for and is getting ignored once again cos we automatically go wide. Does Moyesy know that football as changed from the traditional ways of giving it out wide to a winger to beat the FB and whip crosses in?. It would help if we had a genuine winger out there to do such a thing!. He's got to coach some variation into the side and train us to be able to play through the centre aswell as out wide.

Teams are sussing us out and limiting are space out there and that's why alot of the times these days its not coming to anything and we end up going back or whatever, we need to have more about us in the attacking department and then maybe we could create more chances to score.

I like the look of Jelavic, he's got good movement in and around the box but he gets left isolated alot up top and if are service from out wide doesn't pick up or we don't get anyone creative to play centrally that can pick him out with through balls then even he is going to struggle to get us the goals!. I said in the summer and January that if Moyesy thinks a striker alone is going to solve are goalscoring problems then he's deluded. He needs to be looking at skillful wide player with end product or a creative central midfield player that loves to play through balls all game or else Jelavic or who ever playes up front will struggle to score goals for us!.

Pienaar like the Pienaar of old in this half.

What a different team we look when things are clicking down the left. We can create goal scoring opportunities, something we've not done consistently this season.

After such a dull 1st half we've actually been entertaining to watch this half too.

We looked like the Everton of a couple of seasons ago. What a shame we can't play Pienaar in the cup.

Great second half, and made up that I was wrong about my match prediction.

Pienaar and Baines were sensational in that second half, and Neville and Gibson did a great job that shielding the back four for the vast majority of the game.

Three points against a side that's only lost twice at home all season is the perfect tonic ahead of Tuesday's cup replay.

Nice one - men against boys in that second half - great to put Swansea back in their box and sets us up nicely for Tuesday - COYB's

Nice one!

Will it be possible to have a few days of no "moyes out threads", "we play shit football", "Swansea are the bollocks let's have there manager"

Glad Gibson is back for tues!

we won not just because of our defensive workrate but the pace, directness and belief when we attacked. when we are slow and sideways we are far too predictable but with quick short interchanges we can cut teams apart. well done lads

I almost cried when Pienaar left for Spurs. I will cry if he goes back.

Cant believe we out-Swansea'd Swansea!played some great stuff there! The Pienaar/Baines/Fellaini axis was awesome

This - Pienaar/Baines brilliant but throw Felli in the mix and there was suddenly chance after chance - could easily have been 5-0! :woohoo:

I know Jevlivic should have had another goal or two, but I think he is going to be a great player for us over the years.

can we play Pienaar on tuesday and just put a different name on his back? before the game I was concerned that we would be passed off the park, but for half an hour we played the best football weve played all season, and though the attacking and creative players like Pienaar, Baines and Jelavic were great, have to say Gibson, Jagielka, Hibbert and Neville all did a good job!

I wasn't expecting much ahead of the game and doubted us but i hold my hands up and admit that Moyesy got the team selection and tactics spot on and in the second half especially we played some really good stuff and could of walked away with a more convincing scoreline in the end!.

I do think Felli changed the game in the second half and he was an outlet that we could build and play off and we really took the game to Swansea at times.

Thought Gibson had his best game for us today and to say he's been out for a while he came back in and played well, good on him. Showed today for me that he's the better bet in are midfield and brings more to it than Rodwell does. He puts a shift in and is calm and composed on the ball and he looks to play forwards and tries those forward, penetrative passes that some wont and he just improves us as a team.

Thought Pienaar played well today aswell and tbh im left thinking after that, why cant we perform in all aspects as we did today in all are games?. We defended well, closed down and got tight higher up the pitch and especially second half we knocked the ball about and opened Swansea up with some good football.

Sunderland on Tuesday night is going to be tough but if we can put in a performance like that again then we can easily come away with a win IMO!.

A much improved performance got us the points pretty easily, and considering the chances missed..

We only need one on tuesday, as long as we can keep the nil.

solid 3 points today against tricky opposition, made up to see gibson back, reckon it will be him and felli in the middle on tuesday. haven't seen the goals yet but it sounded on city like bainesy scored a beaut of a free kick. good to see jela score again too. quite confident for sunderland now
