We didn't need to replace Lineker - we won the title by not doing so!

Is he better than Williams  yep is he better than jags yep is better at centre back than holgate yep.

Is he?? Don't think he's better than the 2 established players for a start.

We didn't need to replace Lineker - we won the title by not doing so!

Probably would have won the league if we'd kept Lineker as well. We were weaker without him.

Re most of the above, the decent ones anyway, they wanted away and we stood little chance of keeping them.

From our 1980's super era:

Steve McMahon is an interesting one - Kendall, by his own admission, didn't rate him as highly as others and sold him in 1983

Ian Bishop did OK; Mark Ward did OK and eventually returned, and Kendall rated him;

Richard Dunne sticks out as a big selling mistake

David Johnson, back in the early 70's, also a mistake to sell him
McMahon wanted to leave to go to the rs.had to go via Villa

- Matteo Ferrari was quite decent but I think it was more the case that Moyes opted for Joleon Lescott instead.
- Mustafi could have developed into a good player if he stayed with us, but I guess sometimes it is the case that a player needs to move on to another club before they really take off.
- Arteta - still wondering what Bill's done with that money.
- Eto'o - I think he could have played a key role but Martinez seemed fine to let him go not long after his "gift from the football gods" comment. I wonder what really went on there.

There are only two things I can't stand in this world. People who are intolerant of other people's cultures... and the Dutch.
