The World Cup does look like being a bag of shit.

International football has been a bag of shit for a long time now.

Professional athletes all over the world are pushed too hard in terms of the number of games they play and the length of their season, and care less and less about each game. It's not surprising.

While I've Italian parents and an Italian passport, as a football spectator, I'm not terribly upset about the results.  Congratulations Sweden! I hope there are some underdogs that perform well and perhaps win it. Sometimes, it's easier to enjoy the tournament once your team is out.

It certainly is easier to just enjoy a WC when your country doesn't play.
You can enjoy the football itself rather than winning. Not that I prefer Sweden not to qualify but to be able to look at the games without your tinted glasses are very realxing, just enjoy the beautiful game without the stress.
But I wouldnt swap place with Italy anyway.

You're not helping me convince myself that it's ok that Italy didn't make it.

Italy were utter garbage and Sweden were so limited that it was actually painful to watch (in the second leg).
Jeff: That's not the way to win.
Kathie: Is there a way to win?
Jeff: There's a way to lose more slowly.

It's a shame Buffon won't feature in a record six world cups.

still, 175 caps isn't to be sniffed at
