Title: Everton v Fulham
Post by: Shogun on April 23, 2013, 12:00:36 AM
May as well put whatever was being said in the prediction thread in here. I don't think there is anything to play for personally, I don't think we can get to Spurs and I don't think we will get caught by Liverpool.

My team:

Howard
Coleman Heitinga Distin Oviedo
Naismith Fellaini Osman Mirallas
Jelavic Anichebe

I'm sure many will disagree.

Give Duffy, Oviedo and Barkley a start in place of Heitinga, Pienaar and Osman. Even have Vellios back on the bench instead of Jelavic.

Exactly. There is almost literally nothing to play for anymore, might as well see who can hack it.

My biggest issue is that Moyes throws them all in the same game so instead of having a calming presence they are all shitting themselves. Kinda like the Leeds game; if they played junior and oveido instead of EVERYONE, might have turned out differently. Oh well..

We always get these shouts at the end of the season, but Moyes usually sticks to the same players. Barkley might get a look in but I'd not get your hopes up for much else.

I'd have liked to see Conor McAleny get a few mins up front as he seemed to be improving in the u-21s but I believe he is still injured.

Apparently the ankle wound he gained against Reading re-opened. There was a picture on twitter and it looked horrible!

Agreed, plus he always seems to be playing up front or in the middle in those clips, so I'd say he's being played out of position too if he's being put on the wing.

Tactics for Fulham:

'Operation Goodison Exercise' over the tannoy at pivotal moments in the match includes Baauer's 'Harlem Shake'.

Resulting in the Fulham players jumping around uncontrollably whilst Berbatov stands completely still, (just like in reality, eh Sir Alex)

I would like to see Hibbo get a run out and Coleman concentrate on running at their defence . Use Barkley for 90 and put Fellaini and Mirallas as 2 up front and not waste Mirallas' energy picking up the ball out wide all the time . We could really tank these if we go for it .

                    Howard
Hibbo.     Duffy.     Distin.     Bainsey

                        Fellaini

Coleman.       Mirrallis.   Barkley.     Oviedo

                            Jelavic

I think we'd murder them with this line up

Did Mirallas play as a main striker for Olympiacos?

I know we often wonder about players playing in different positions (Oviedo on the right, Bily in the Cahill role  ;) etc) but if Vic is injured as is feared and Jelavic still not looking anything like himself from a year ago I think it might be worth trying him as an out and out striker.

Probably the best finisher we have at the moment

Mirallas is certainly in better form than Jelavic (not that it takes much right now).  Playing him up top is an option but we would have to stop what we have been doing, lumping balls over the top.

3 forwards, 3 attack-minded midfielders and 2 attacking full backs are on the pitch.

Most of his goals there seemed to come from him picking the ball up on the wing before beating players and shooting. Playing up front where he'll be more tightly marked I don't think will work in out advantage. He doesn't seem to make very good off the ball runs and our final ball passing is pretty poor atm so I don't think it'd be a good idea.

Top 5 attacking third passes for that half:

Baines: 11/14

Mirallas: 5/8

Fellaini, Pienaar, Baines and Coleman playing particularly well. CBs too have been good. Main weakness has been up top. Mirallas pretty quiet again too. Osman not great but heavily involved in build up to the goal at least.

Ideally we'd have a good defensive midfielder alongside him. Don't feel comfortable when he's looking to get on the end of things in and around the box leaving zero pace/strength Osman covering. Barkley on for Osman wouldn't exactly change that.

Really hope this isnt "one of those games" where we fail to get the second and get stung by an equalizer.

Great football and its no surprise that we are playing good football when Pienaar is playing well. I've said it in the past our play is vital to how he plays, if he has a good game Everton generally do too.

Really need this second though, shitting it here.

Jelavic needs the offseason to get here as soon as possible. I think he'll come good next season but his head is a mess right now.

really feel for Jelavic.

Me too, his heart and desire is there, but for whatever reason this season his left and right feet arent doing what he wants them to do. Just the act of timing a leg swing seems beyond him right now.

Not wrong there mate. A case of at the end of the season I reckon we will be about 4 points short of CL qualification and we will look back at all the draws, missed opportunities we had to finish top 4. When your main striker has only got 7 to his name you know its gonna be struggle. Shadow of the player he was last season. Oh well, roll on next Sunday and stuff the shite and hope for a miracle that at the very least one of Spurs, Arse or Chelsea fuck up big time and we get Europa League

Happy enough with that. Great to see Pienaar and Baines working in tandem so well again today.  Pienaar just edges man of the match from Coleman for me, constantly provided a threat down that right side again.

Thought Barkley looked pretty good when he came on, I'd start him ahead of Jelavic in the derby next week

I think Liverpooll were  last time I checked.

Liverpool have had the most shots but it must be QPR. QPR are 10th in shots per game and last in goals scored. Liverpool have more than double the goals (61 vs 29) and from less than twice as many shots (19.4spg vs 13.3).

We have had more shots than ManU, Chelsea and Arsenal so we have definitely been wasteful.

Fellaini, Pienaar, Coleman and Mirallas had boss games today.

That passage of inter-play and neat passing on the edge of the box in the second half between Baines, Pienaar and Mirallas should have, and deserved to, end in a goal. Neat little flick up by Mirallas, only for him to volley it at Schwarzer.
