Fellaini is suspended isn't he after that yellow yesterday?

Hibbert Jagielka Distin Baines

Coleman Rodwell Osman Drenthe
                      Cahill
                       Saha

2-1 to us Cahill to get off the mark and Saha to smash in a late winner after Demba Ba's opener

I really would love to give them a good hiding! They have had such a easy run of fixtures and luck along the way can't wait for it to come to a shuddering halt.. And would love us to dish it out!

             Howard
Neville jags Distin Baines
       Rodwell heitinga

Would like to see us go with
                  Howard
hibbert jags  distin   baines
coleman rodwell heitinga drenthe
             saha vellios

think he will play cahill if he is fit behind saha though, going to go 1-1 but this is going to be a very touch test for us.

I'll go for a 1-1 draw.

Our defence is too leaky and I can't see where the goals are supposed to be coming from for us to be winning games.

Howard

Bily          Osman   Rodwell     Coleman

Cahill

Saha

Is the team I would like to see but won't.

Bily wasn't our worst player against united.

I personally think he was our worst player, he lost the ball pretty much every time he got it, he couldn't even get the ball under control, he just looked like he didn't have any confidence at all, people i was sitting near at the game all new he was going to come off at half time.

That's more a reflection of Moyes lack of faith in him.  I don't think he played well but Osman was worse, Baines didn't play well either and Barkley was poor when he came on.  Bily is the easy choice to go at whenever things aren't working.

I agree that is confidence isent going to be very good, but he really had a bad game and once he made one miskate he just kept on making more, i think baines didnt play too well first half becasue he had bily on his side who was not doing anything to help him, osman didnt play very well either but i didnt really notice him, that was becasue he wasen't involved, he didn't do anything great but didn't do anything to bad either, I noticed bily a lot more becasue i feel that he played worse by losing it and he just looked lost.

Bily wasn't our worst player against united.

Of course he wasn't but he wasn't far away.

Osman and Barkley were arguably worse but Osman usually turns in a good performance and Barkley is just 17. Bilya on the other hand is consistantly poor.

Now he's not scoring his occasional wonder goal his poor performances are no longer being masked.

I knew Neville would come into midfield for the suspended Felli. With Neville and Rodwell sat in there, im not confident about today at all. Neville is to slow and shit and will get out run, out thought and out classed by the likes of Cabaye and Tiote and Rodwell doesn't seem to know who to pick up or follow unless he's on a man marking job and leaves a lot of space in the centre and giving Cabaye time and space could be damaging!.

And with Drenthe in the side and possibly wanting to go wide right alot in the game, he'll probs be up against Ryan Taylor at LB who is right footed and will be able to go inside with Drenthe and feel comfortable doing that and putting tackles in, and if Drenthe does go wide right, that means Coleman at LW and tbh i think ive only seen him play out there for a bit against Fulham was it the other week and i never noticed wether he did any good or got into the game there or anything so wether that was down to him not getting into the game on the left i don't?.

Coleman can play RW pretty easy as he's an attacking right FB and makes the switch look easy but shifting a natural RB to LW during in games could be dodgy IMO. As good as Gareth Bale is he got used at RW for Wales in Euro qualifiers and he found it hard to adjust and didn't really make an impact and its hard for a FB to adjust to other positions compared to wingers and technically good attacking midfielders.

Hopefully Moyesies selections and tactics prove me wrong and we do well today but i for one am quite nervous about the game against the barcodes this aft with the personnel we have in certain areas.

I don't like seeing Neville in the team, but there have been times in the past when he's been very effective in that DM role in front of the back four, hopefully we see that again today.

After previously believing we'd win, I'm suddenly not feeling as confident, concerned about Ba, not sure if Jags or Heitinga have the physical ability to handle him and Leon Best. Although Best is pretty shit other than being a strong.

FFS

One of Howard's few weakness for me has always been communication, and that looks like a prime example.

Howard called it, that was obvious, Heitinga probably became indecisive at the wrong moment and didn't commit to winning the ball.

Either way we're in for it now, they have a great defensive record, need to keep them out from now on and get ourselves on the front foot.

Slowest counter-attack in the league, Rodwell needs to stretch his legs and get forward on the counter, it's the only way we'll outnumber them at the back and cause them serious problems.

If Cahill is fit I don't know why he didn't come on, this game is made more him to put one of those chances we've created away. I get that Moyes wants an experience DM beside Rodwell to let him get forward but we're losing two nothing.

If Distin was fit he should have started anyway, he's big and strong and we knew what their forwards were gonna be like.

To put it in to perspective, both the newcastle goals came from poor communication from Heitinga and Howard, and the second was a wonder goal that no team could have avoided.

Along with our goal we have hit the post and actually had two decent chances with saha and coleman, we are still in this, despite looking shite at the back, Distin coming on will help though.

i was just saying that at 2-0 down why bring distin on for neville, defensive much? hopefully we can learn how to defend and finish in the 2nd half!
To be fair we were about to defend a corner in the 40th min - priority would have been get to half time without conceding another.

And despite having 22 pts from 10 games newcastle are no Man U. A lot easier to look good against them. As mentioned before, Gosling and Guthrie are not a midfield we should be fearing yet our 3 aren't exactly dominating.

we created some very good chances and if we'd have gone in 2-0 down it would have been an unfair score . Jack's goal has given us a chance to get something out of this game . Incidentally for those shouting for Barkley to have come on , did you see him vs Utd  in the second half ? , Bily was better and he was awful before he went off , Cahill isn't fully fit . Disty was the right call .

I wish we would go with 2 specialist strikers up top. Last years home win against Spurs and the second half against Blackpool, were the only recent times I thought we looked particularly dangerous. We played with 2 strikers on those occasions.

Losing whilst playing "ok" has become a fucking terrible habit of late.  It's like watching groundhog day sometimes, but we just don't create enough chances let alone actually put them away and with our defence always liable to concede we're going to lose more than we win.

Hmmm sad  :'( . We cannot score well, we have some chances but the shots are not good... ok one hits post... that was unlucky, but often the shooting is poor. I think Saha needs a help, but maybe Mc Faddin is not good.  shakeyheadman

More possesion, more shots

No one has less of a clue about football than you

one goal scored  and two conceded is the only stat that matters. It dosent matter how good you are playing going forward ( which we are not) if you defense looks like conceding every time the opposition has an attack.

Don't really know where to begin. But I really think Gueye and Barkley need to be given a chance. Our left wing isn't working, Coleman and Drenthe both look better on the right.

Apart from a ten minute spell in the first half, we were awful how long are we going to say, well we had more shots so were playing well. No where not playing well we are fucking awful at the moment and slipping into a relegation battle.

Agree theres far too many on here that keep on saying we are unlucky, more shots on goal, more possession etc etc, fucking we cannot put the ball into the net!! and consistantly play 4-5-1 which worked well about 7 years ago!!! Fucking wake up!

The only positive at the moment is we have played the bulk of the best teams and its a quarter of the way through the season and not the last half dozen games that finds us 16th in the league. Any potential investor must be a tad concerned about pumping money into our club at the moment though. i know i would be.

Mc fadden had very little touches of the ball, and 1 bad shot when it was better to cross because there was many players in the box after a corner, or maybe it was a very overhit cross, it was a big wasteful moment in the late stage of the match.

I don't think Saha was awful  He still created a chance from almost nothing, which he was an inch away from putting us 1-1 and a second in the second-half.

We gave them a goal head-start, had a clear penalty turned down, and I don't think they were better than us over 90 mins.  That said, we lacked in too many areas.  I fancy our form over the next 10 games to improve.

Arteta 'apparently' asked to go after we had already been negotiating with Arsenal for several hours over his transfer. He was going whether he wanted to or not....

I do not really understand why phil neville started alongside rodwell. We as a team lack players who could create opportunities out of nothing. Don't really understand the need of two defensive mids. Could have played one more striker or someone like Barkley( or maybe Billy) in a more attacking CM position who can contribute more in the attack.
We need to stop sitting back and play with a defensive mindset from the start and give our midfield more creative players. With Osman woefully out of form it was wholly on Drenthe to be the creative player. We need to buy play maker in January. That should be the priority.

Got to say, Newcastle looked fairly comfortable in the end. I think they're a good side. Lots of pace and determination, whereas we seem slow and ponderous.

We all know that there's a lack of creativity in the squad at the moment, but I don't think Moyes helps himself by playing two defensive midfielders in every game.

His problem is that he needs to experiment and change it up a bit, but our form and confidence is so poor we can't afford for his experiments not to work. So he's just sticking with what he knows.Difficult position for Everton.

Obviously I don't like losing and I know Moyes has limitations but who do you think is going to come in and transform us into world beaters? We have no money, have to sell established experienced players and replace them with untried youngsters. The problems at our club go far, far deeper than the manager. So I may be a prick bit I stand by my assessment that you are a daft cunt!

I think you can place a little blame at the manager, he picked the team, the tactics, sent us out to play the way we did, set us up to get men behind the ball and not close down and not commit to many bodies forward when in possesion of the ball and looking to attack and his substitution decisions.

And its not the first time this season we've been this bad either, and im not talking about when we've played the top sides, like when we've played Blackburn where we got a lucky win and against Q.P.R. at home, Villa at home, West Brom in cup.

We are IMO the worst footballing side in the league, we haven't got a fucking clue, no pace, no movement, cant string passes together, always giving ball away, we don't close down or do enough to stop crosses coming in to box, its fucking rubbish and yeah, the buck stops with the players but the manager should take some blame for picking the certain players to play where he wants and setting us up the way he does.

People moan about us having inexperienced youngsters in the squad but i bet they'd show more imagination than the likes of some of the players in the team today!. I mean we've got some technically good youngsters in Barkley, Gueye and Vellios and yet the 1st two struggle to even make the bench as Moyesy goes with favourites like McFadden instead.

I'm not saying our inexperienced youngsters are world beaters but i bet they'd try harder and play better, with a bit more pace and imagination than the likes of Hibbert, Osman, Neville and Rodwell do.

There's no way Moyesy is going to change his tactics or formation so if not he needs to start changing the personnel that he uses within the 4-5-1 or 4-2-3-1 formation he plays. Why not look to play Coleman at RB from now, cos again, Hibbo was shocking. In the centre of midfield we will have Felli in there no question about it but with the players we've got, we'll have to go with Rodwell at the side of him. Out wide i'd go with Drenthe still as he as pace and a trick about him but he does need to work back when he gives the ball away instead of standing still, and id go with Gueye out wide too as he as a bit of pace and his technically not bad either, and he can cross a ball too, which we seem to lack at the mo, someone who can whip a ball in from wide!. Then i'd go with Barkley playing just behind the striker, so what if he's as young as he is, he's got good feet and can pick a pass and link up well with others and if he can cut his greediness out and give the ball quicker and more, he'll be quality and then i'd have Vellios uptop, yeah he's inexperienced but he can hold the ball up and as a good touch and as got good awareness of whats around him and can link the play.

For me, Moyesy knows were short of cash, very short of cash infact and we have to build within or buy in youngsters with potential, so why not start replacing the dead wood within the squad gradually and bring in the good youngsters that he thinks have a bright future at our club and build from there?

He's already said we'll struggle to make the top 10 so why not blood the young lads like Barkley, Gueye and Vellios and take it from there, i mean whats the worst that could happen, relegation, cos tbh, if he carries on picking the players he does right now and we carry on performing the same shite way every week, then that's what will happen anyway IMO!.

I mean what have we to lose by giving these youngsters a chance?. I think if anything, they'll give the team a freshness that it clearly needs, some of our youngsters are technically better than what we have in the side right now, and they have more pace aswell. For me, the likes of Hibbo, Neville and Saha are past it, Cahill and Osman aren't far away but i think they could offer more coming off the bench than the other 3.

Its not just a striker we need though. Your point of having lots of possesion and territory proves we need someone creative and with a bit of technical nouce to turn that possesion into goalscoring chances, maybe a winger who can beat a man and put dangerous balls into box or a creative midfielder who can thread a ball through the eye of a needle, split defences and create that way!.

We didn't play well.  Keeping possession (which only happened once they scored anyway) isn't playing well.  We had a total lack of movement or guile and once again leaked an inevitable howler of a first goal.  Newcastle didn't even play well and still had too much for us, don't let the penalty appeal mask how mediocre we are right now.

Your right Aidy,it's not just another striker we need. The team is crying out for a PROPER right sided midfielder, not a young fullback that caught everybody on the hop last season and has now been found out.He needs to be moved to right back, and before anyone bangs on about him not being good enough defensivly, how the fuck could he be any worse than neville or hibbert. We also need a midfielder that has an eye for goal, and i'm not talking about someone playing off a lone striker, but somebody that actually gets beyond the ball. All of this of course is dependant on how much money moyes will see of the amount we got in on deadline day.If Donovan comes in that will be the right hand side sorted, and leave the transfer kitty left for a striker and attacking midfielder.Never was there a better example of our chronic lack of striking intent today than when 2-1 down with only about 10 mins left Saha wins a header beyond the back post, the ball lands smack in the middle of the box 10 yards out,a perfect knockback for someome to run onto but we got nobody there taking a chance, because we only got one other player in the area and rodwell on the edge of the box.Newcastle worked hard, had a lucky break with the o.g. and were obviously full of confidence with the good start to the season that the've had,but for me were there for the taking, and we were fucking clueless how to go about it.This team badly needs shaking up,it's ponderous, predictable and so easy for opposition to play againsed.Maybe the chickens are finally coming home to roost,as regards to the lack of investment in the playing side of things.I fear if no money is spent in January then a relegation battle seems iminent,i really hope i'm wrong

i didnt think we would go down, agreeing with people saying there are 3 worse teams than us, however with recent games, i am starting to worry. we may (on paper) have better players than 3 other teams but they are not playing at their best level, there seems to be no urgency, no passion, i think Moyse has shown a defeatist attitude in recent interviews and that could be passed on to the players, if the manager doesnt believe why should they kind of thing. we need to knuckle down and pull together. january will be vital, we NEED players, someone who can create and score goals. however we have no money. so i am praying this investment rumour is correct and they are what we all want, (not like the blackburn owners!)

built a barrier up with Everton atm so results dont ruin my week....i have a dissertation to write!

Relegation will not happen, no I am sure ! I think middle. But of course the improvment is needed and a signing of players, or loan (Donivan, Pienaar) let's see

We were missing Fellaini which weakened us badly , we no longer have Arteta or Pienaar ,  , the loss of SP especially is a downer because Bainsey is no where near effective now , we conceded a stupid OG from my least favorite Everton player for years in Johnny H and they also scored a 1 in a million goal , unstoppable , Yet we still had enough chances to get something from the game despite them having 2 in form strikers at home they caused us little difficulty . The problem is obvious , its the same as it has been for a few years , a painfully thin squad which is weakened when we get injuries and suspensions , Its easy blaming team selections and tactics but if the team is getting chopped and changed all the time and we haven't got an in form fit striker we are buggered , especially when a few of the players on the pitch are in dreadful form . The sooner this takeover happens the better and perhaps the manager can get on with his job instead of having to play the Krypton factor every week

I agree, talk of relegation, especially at this stage is daft but in the long term things have to change.

Grim as fuck today!as has been for most of this season. We seem to have too many players out of form at the same time, and as poor as our finishing and attacking has been, I actually think our defence is more of a worry. We need to get back to being hard to beat and keeping clean sheets. As it is we look vunerable defending down both sides of the pitch and in central defence Jags has overall been desperately poor, though he was marginally better today.

Performance wise there were very few positives today, Heitinga, Coleman, Neville, Saha and Osman were particularly poor. Decent-ish performance from Rodwell as per usual this season, which some fans will see as good enough for England, though realistically it was 6/10 that was made to look better by some woeful midfield colleagues of his. The subs coming on today all did better than those who were on the pitch before them. I wasn't too thrilled at Mcfaddens return, but some of our brightest moves today came through him. A final word on Drenthe, hardly anything came off for him today but he kept trying and at least he wants to be creative. I'm not an Osman hater but he has been dire so far this term.get him out of the starting line up!rant over

When Fellaini goes it could be the death knell. Our team lacks pace and creativity, two things that make a side threatening. Add to that the defensive tactics, negative attitude and plethora of players played out of position, we really could be in trouble. If we could just try 442, with all positions occupied by players that specialize in those roles, we may discover some form. With no money to hint at an improving future, this feels like the return of the relegation threatened 90's.

They didn't look like scoring whenever the went forward. In fact they were often as poor/average as us.

My mate and I were saying that earlier. We actually made Newcastle look pretty decent, yet at times they looked a pretty poor side. My brother in law and nephew were at the game (Newcastle fans) even they said Newcastle were poor. There is no way they will keep this going, not that that helps us today.

A few players didn't turn up today, one or two we can cover for, but in general that was a pretty poor display across the board, it's hard to take a lot of positives, or single out anyone for praise from today even if we did create a few chances.

One thing on the Neville substitution, I was furious at first but looking back it probably wasn't a bad move by Moyes. Heitinga was having a shocker at the back, at least bringing on Distin took him out of defence. The worry is I was one of the people calling for Jags to be dropped for him, he's been given a chance and made a poor show of it.

Oh, and by they way, the everton.chris that was in row U seat 566 is a complete prick.

This. And dont let the goal Rodwell got mask over how shit he was, again!.

missed the first half as i was in work, listened to most of the second half on my phone coming back and only saw the last 12 mins plus added time. not impressed, too many wasted chances, misplaced balls and predictable formation but unless we get major investment theres nothing we can do

oh and give over with the relegation talk lads, every season the same shite gets spouted about us going down and being royally fucked and yet we finish in the top half. have some fucking faith for fucks sake, if not fuck right off to somewhere else

And every season we have a strong second half, but one of these years we won't. It might not be this year, but it will happen. Personally I think it will be this year and we'll be lucky to get top 12, so should I just fuck right off to somewhere else?
