Rafa is a decent manager.

I do not want him anywhere near Everton but he's a decent manager nonetheless.

Let's just hope, it's his last game with nothing to play for, that he goes for the jugular.

Did we play Chelsea last game of the season a few years ago when we drew 1-1 but had a perfectly good goal disallowed near the end?

Drew 1-1 about 5 years back Drogba for them and I think it was Vaughan for us. Faddy had a goal chalked off. Don't think Moyes will break his hoodoo against sides he's not won away. 2-0 Chelsea.

Ours was wrongly called offside wasnt it?
Title: Re: Chelsea v Everton

McFadden scored our one that was ruled out if I'm correct, I think there was a foul in the build up to there goal.

Also Vaughany almost scored a boss overhead kick.

Yeah I think Beattie was called off side very harshly.

We played well that day. Vaughany gave Terry a very hard game.
Title: Re: Chelsea v Everton
Post by: Stumpy on May 15, 2013, 02:56:42 AM
He gave Terry a right working over that day allright, scored the 1st goal(which i had a few bob on at an unbelievable 14-1) nearly scored a spectacular 2nd with an overhead kick and generaly run terry ragged. At the time Chelsea were on an 80 odd match unbeaten run at home and if wasn't for mr Halsey and his inept assistant we'd have ended it that day,as mentioned there was a blatent free kick that should have been awarded in the lead up to Drogba's equaliser, and of course that late offside shout.Looking forward to the game on sunday, cant go up or down, just hope we have a real go at them and its a good match.

Ramires is definitely out through suspension. Hazard may still be injured, and Terry may be out as well. Have to figure Ba will feature, since he was cup-tied for the Chelsea's Europa campaign.

I'll be curious to see if we play the standard first-team squad, or give a few youngsters a match since our league place is guaranteed.

He puts the side out that he thinks has the best chance to win the game and I can't see that changing now.

We qualified for Europe with 61 (4th) and 58 (6th) and 63 (one of he 5ths) so there's a good chance.

We got 65 points for 5th in 07/08.

Whoever misses out no 4th this year will be disappointed as well. Likely have more than 70 points which generally guarantees CL spot as well.

The bottom 11 teams did so poorly this year that it took that much more to get enough points for top 4-5.

It's quite amazing how many teams are 2 points apart.

Yeah, we've been so unlucky not to get Europe this season. Our points tally is usually more then enough to secure 5th. I cant remember the last time Spurs,Arsenal and Chelsea lost.

They have all played great since January, each time they looked like slipping up they somehow managed to claw themselves back into a game and grab a win.

We simply had to win against Spurs to have had a chance of catching them.

Think there's a worry that Jela won't hold the ball up enough so I'd guess it'll either be Barkley in (like he was for Spurs and Arsenal) or 4-4-2.

To be fair we've been playing like this for most of the season.

Plus a Chelsea team with Purple Aki anchoring the midfield and that lunatic Luiz at CB will give anyone plenty of opportunities.

Jelavic....come on. That's just dreadful.

It's not a good time to sell. But we might have to take the hit as he looks a shadow of his initial self. Maybe the new manager can get his head back in the game.

I bet Moyes is regretting taking Anichebe off at this point.

Didn't deserve to lose that match. Played really well in the first half and should have taken some of those chances, most notably Jelavic's two in the second half.

Sums up Moyes time here in so far as a bit more talent in the squad (and notably the bench) and we should have won. Always a player or two short. A case of what could have been had we ever got in that elusive investment.

Indeed, if we'd been more cinical with our chances (Jelavic..) we could have won this one, with Chelsea on their last legs.

'Positive' (a defender in midfield..) substitutions didn't help one bit.

Are Liverpool really in the 'Top 4'? Moyes record against City in the years since they became rich is probably second to none. One defeat and the vast majority victories, even at their place. Not a bad record against Spurs either.

What was our record against Chelsea, only one defeat in the last six at Stamford Bridge before today?

All those teams have been beaten at Goodison.

His 'record' against the true top teams is not as bad as people would have you think.

There was an amusing argument in front of me at the match with one person spending the whole game shouting about Moyes being negative and dithering and then moving onto Anichebe being a disgrace etc etc

This prompted someone in front of him to turn round and have a go at him.

This then developed into an argument about whether Moyes was any good and whether Ferguson was just doing a mate a favour etc etc.

Then when Jela came on and er, missed a lot, it had the 2nd person turning round shouting how rubbish he was etc etc

All a bit over the top all things considered!

Utd shared the points with City, shared the points with Chelsea, didn't win at Arsenal, didn't win at Spurs, shared the points with us.

How did the table end up?

Obviously I'm not saying I don't want to win at these places but we do ok at home against them.

Howard mistake for the first; decent equaliser from Naismith; Gibbo hit a post with a deflected shot.

Jelavic came on and missed a decent chance; they scored pretty much straight after that. We missed some more decent chances.

He didn't have many options on the bench. It will be interesting  to see what happens when he has people like RVP and Wayne Rooney, amongst others, available (who would walk into our current first Eleven.)
