Yep I'd settle for that then Rooney would have the monkey off his back and become an Evertonian once more

Crowd will be up for this after a few hours on the ale. New players will buoy the squad up. On the telly and we always do well against them.

Cue a shite early goal as per usual and a comfortable defeat.

3-2 to us - with Stones missing a sitter for them in a goalmouth scramble after a corner.

Or something

I think they are actually quite vulnerable. They defend with even less players than an RM team.

Play aggressively against these and we could get a win. I think we'll lose though.

Then hopefully stones falls on his arse and Rom Romps home.

I think this will be a narrow loss or a score draw. City are a good side but extremely predictable under Guardiola, if we work hard enough pressing from the front (especially that numpty keeper and Stones) we are good enough to get a result. Going to miss Gana though, I think Schniderlin will start.

Press these high up the pitch and we'll beat them.

Force them to give it back to that clown in goal as much as possible.

Yeah Gana is a big miss, him and schneiderlin would have given us the legs in midfield to press. I'm a massive fan of Barry but he doesn't have the energy or ability to press and hound players anymore.

Although Davies can do this I think we need the experience of Barry in there instead. We saw with Leicester's second goal last week that Davies still has a lot to learn and this is a big game.

                Robles/Stek
Coleman Williams Jags Baines
Lennon Barry Schneiderlin Valencia
                  Barkley
                 Lukaku

Valencia and Barkley can swap around to confuse and get into space, Lennon can press well so he gets the nod for me over Mirallas. Having said that Mirallas seems to have found his confidence again and I'd fancy him score

Tough one.

Fuck it get Mirallas running at their full backs. Think full back is their weakest position and we need exploit it

True . I would give Mirallas the job of chasing down Stones and the goalie for the first half . When he is fucked bring on Lennon or Valencia to do the same . Don't give them any time what so ever on the ball . Lukaku can amble around till his chance comes .

If we concede early it's over... so, basically it's over before we start.
Nah, we can beat these but got to stop them playing by pressing and then press again..

Hopefully we wont do what we did last time and sit back willing them onto us,,we all know they play from the back so press high up the pitch and keep them under pressure..for me

                 coleman  williams  mori  baines
                        snides              barry
                     valencia barkley mirallas

McCarthy being fit could be the deciding factor for this.

He looked good last game before his injury. I think he just needs confidence that his hamstring problems are behind him. Koeman has given him plenty of time for it to heal properly. I remember when he was injured Koeman said, 'McCarthy felt some tightness'. I've been one of his biggest critics but if he can show the form previous to this lay off he will be crucial. No doubt about that.

Absolutely confidant that we'll get battered so therefore I'm going for a 3-2 win at the death. Sterling & Stones will have them up 2-0 at halftime. Cue comeback led by Schneiderlin with goals from Lukaku, Coleman and Baines.

Yeah that 'calm down' stuff was just bizarre. To me it demonstrated a mixture of confusion in his own head and a Martinez-imposed arrogance that was really damaging. Terrible thing to do to start thinking you can teach your own fans football. He probably could but it's clearly going to wind people up, and that doesn't help.

Barry shouldn't be starting this one unless he has two of Davies/McCarthy/Schneiderlin alongside him.

City dominate the ball and Barry isn't as good at chasing as he used to be. They'll pass through us all day with Barry in a midfield two.

Three at the back might also make Barry workable.

We can't go toe to toe with these. Theyre better than us. Keep it solid and look for the break. Have to start Mirallas for this reason surely. We also need Barkley to think quickly. If he's not on it then get him off and focus on getting down the wings.

Due to City's certain ball possession and experience for me Tom shouldn't start this one but replace Barry after 60/70 mins when he starts to tire , McCarthys last few performances have been more like the McCarthy when he first joined so if he's deemed fit I'd go with him as well .

        ................ Stek ............
... Coleman... Williams....Moro.....Baines.. ..
  ..........McCarthy..........B arry..........
        ..............Morgan......... ...
.....Valencia................ ........Barkley.............
.....................Lukaku.. .................

Can't start With Del as Blowing out his arse after 10mins or one burst down the line , 20min impact player for me unless he can improve his fitness dramatically. Valencia has been brite & busy in his last couple of outings so deserves to keep his place .

When he was here played his part and never slagged off the Club, Manager or fellow players.
Some who have left have done all these and still get clapped when come back.

Put me down for booing!

I don't have a problem with him leaving

I don't wish him any trouble or anything. I hope he wins the World Cup with England

But if booing him can get into his head today and put him off his stride and lead to him making an error that wins us the game...

Then I'm all for it!

It's just a bit of theatre anyway isn't it!

It's a huge risk as we can't have any passengers if we're serious about 'attempting' to close the gap between us and United, we need to win today.

I'd bring him on second half rather than wheeling him out against Man City to have his arse handed to him.

Although if he starts and plays a blinder i will stand corrected (and be very pleased  ;))

I reckon we'll play well today, graft our hearts out, defend like lions and cause them real problems.

Unfortunately, we'll let an unlucky goal or a piece of brilliance will beat the keeper, and we'll lose or draw.

Then we'll totally fail to take that level of performance into the next game for some mistifying reason.

I think Schneiderlin is one of the more practical grounded modern footballer types. Very professional and mature. He's one of the few IMO who will be able to fit into most systems without too much fuss and with a consummate ease. Mourinho probably has his Modus Operandi spot on. What he had to say about him when he left United and signed for us is very likely not far off the mark.

If schneirdelein plays he has to start, give his all then be subbed

It'd be pointless to bring him on and expect him to get up to speed of the game
I think it will soon sink in how good a signing he is and the fact that he really is our player .A few more like him and we will forget some of the legacies of the past .I fancy Ademola to surprise us today
Looking forward to this game but we could get tanked just as easily

Joel in goal.  That back four looks a bit slow facing City's fast attackers and quick passing.  We really need to slow this game right down.

Nice to see he is showing faith in Tom Davies and nice to see he has kept Mirallas in as well -as documented one I would have sold at the blink of an eye but he is justifying the selection and I am pleased to be wrong

I don't mind that lineup, and there's lots of options off the bench to change things. I'm guessing we're going to concede possession in their half and around the halfway line, sit deepish and look to hurt them on the counter.

Hard to know but I'd have guessed summat like:

  Zabaleta Stones Otamendi
Sagna                                Clichy
                  Toure
      De Bruyne    Silva

         Sterling

In fairness they are patronising us to fuck.

Redknapp - Utd's too big for Schneirderlin, but he'll be fine at a 'club like Everton'.

Henry - Lukaku has 11 goals and 4 assists, which is a lot for a 'club like Everton'.

Robbie Earle always has the most interesting things to say about Everton of any TV talking head I've come across.  Had an interesting "Barkley v De Bruyne" analogizing that I can't even begin to summarize, too.

Also, it's good to boo Stonesy even if you hold no ill will against him (I don't) because he's shown that the crowd can get under his skin.  He plays for the opposition now, after all...

We're looking very solid to me.

You've got to remember the opposition and how they have to ability to slice through the defence in a split second

Apart from Mori looking totally fuckin lost. We'll concede from his position eventually.

Rom's lack of pressing is making it very easy for them to pass it out. He's leaving his man open every time, when all our other players are covering City's passing options. Well annoying.

They look awful when it goes to and from bravo.

They've made a few mistakes and we've let them get away with it.

biffish from RFM but on a few occasions no midfielder has shown for the ball.

Don't agree about ROm either. He's doing his bit and the players behind him are too slow to follow to really put the squeeze on them. We're doing a fairly good job of putting them off their game though

City's movement upfront is brilliant.  We're struggling with it a bit, but I think anyone would.

Barkley has been the best he's been in ages.  Not everything is coming off, but he's trying the things we want him to and it only takes one and we're in on goal.

I wouldn't change anything at H/T, leave it as it is and see who tires/gets booked and make the changes from there.

Almost a perfect manifestation of Koeman's tactics from the players there. Need to be careful with that little diagonal behind Mori, and getting pulled out of shape occasionally but excellent all round. Chances on the break as well, if we can find the right pass and get men up in support quickly.

We are some better passing decisions away from having these off today. The setup is perfect for this type of game we just need a better final ball at times.

Mirallas looks really good but he's apathetic without the ball at times. Williams, Barry and Baines have all been great for me with Barkley contributing a lot. Wouldn't mind seeing Mc Carthy or Schneiderlin for Davies at some point if he continues to struggle in the tackle.

Just need to be careful on the break, when we give the ball away is when we look most vulnerable. At the same time we don't want to just hoof it up to Rom.

Mori has been good but his rushing out of defence can be problematic at times as they want to suck us in and play it around us. Just needs to pick and choose his moments a bit better.

I think him, just like Holgate, are used to snapping into a tackle and winning the ball as they both have quick feet but these City players are very good on the ball so need to be careful.

Also need to ensure they follow their man on the quick give and go passes.

As someone else said, the diagonals over Mori are a big danger so wee need to be aware of that.

In attack we just need to keep getting the ball to Mirallas, Barkley and Rom early and with Baines and Coleman running beyond them we can grab another goal.

Davies getting a lot of praise am I the only one who thinks he's been a bit of a weak link in midfield? Still brilliant ball.
Not seeing that to be honest, getting his foot in and doesn't look out of place at all, telling contributions with the through ball and the header off the line, think he's having a decent game.
Title: Re: Everton v Manchester City
Post by: blargins on January 15, 2017, 08:32:37 PM
Given the ball away a couple of times, but he's stopped them playing it through the middle of us well, and has gotten forward when the opportunity has arisen.

And he also made our goal, and cleared their certain equaliser off the line.

He's going to be great for us. He seems to have that X factor about him.

Him and Schneiderlin the future I think.

Yeah live I thought he tried to shield it and pulled back, but replay showed he tried (and failed) to get a touch, and I heard the announcers say he tried to claim it.  He claimed Bolasie's goal too, which Yanni himself just laughed off as Rom dicking about.  Perhaps he has a dry sense of humour, or just got caught up in the moment and didn't think of what it would mean for Davies.  There's no way he's that level of a cunt.

29% possession and a 4-0 win.

Are you watching Bob?

After 10 mins you knew we were going to be scoring goals today, we looked such a threat on the counter.

Tactics wise, an absolute gem from Koeman and corresponding horror show for Pep.  RK had us setup with a strong defence, 3 in attack (Rom was never isolated today) and practically conceded the entire midfield. Invited City to fanny around with it for a few minutes minutes, run into the blue wall and then scramble as Lukaku, Mirallas and Barkley punched holes in their high line.

Again, no better example of one manager getting it completely wrong and the other completely right!

He was immense today. I remember in the reverse fixture when Koeman dropped him, people were worrying about what effect it will have on Ross. I think this game gives the answer. He was dropped because Koeman realised that without the ball he was completely useless, and we were going to be for long spells without it against City. Today was completely different, he closed down, he harassed, he tackled AND when he got the ball, he did what we know he can do.

Just seen the Sky rating, they gave him a 6, the joint lowest they gave an Everton player. Either they are blind or have an agenda.

Thought he was terrific again, city couldn't get near him on the ball.

Drifted through their midfield time and
time again, always looking for a killer pass.

Ross Barkley was probably the best player Roberto Martinez has ever seen, hence the constant arse licking.

To Ronald Koeman though, he's nothing, hence the harsh words. It's worked though. If he continues like this we can finally think about building the midfield round him.

With the caveat that I didn't get to watch today's game, I do think "brilliant for weeks" is a bit of a stretch. He's definitely showing real signs of improvement in parts of his game which were big weaknesses: his fitness, his pressing, his reaction to losing the ball, even his tackling and his aggression in the last couple of games, etc.

You have to give Koeman credit for this, though I don't think it's any real genius on his part that he's working on those areas, because we've all been saying he needs to for the last couple of years now.

If he can continue to master the basics, that will be a real platform for him to build the parts of his game that set him apart - his ability on the ball, his dribbling, his attacking instincts, etc. Then we *might* finally just have a "world class" player on our hands.

Starting to see koemans tactics and strategy creep into our game the last 4-5 games. Yes, there will be growing pains like the Leicester game, but you can slowly see the players getting it.

Pressing without the ball is the most noticeable.

And oh ya, Tom Davies. I actually thing Barry fed of his energy and youth.

Barkley looked as if his head was going to blow off when he was getting substituted, he was blowing that hard. I don't think he's ever worked this hard in his life, evidence the penny is dropping about what Koeman expects.

I look at Davies's goal again and again... the more I watch it the more I see how brilliant this goal is.  He starts with the ball (after Holgate wins the ball in defence -edit Ari) runs with it, nutmegs (right worde here?)Clichy and Toure gives the ball to Barkley and FALLS down... gets up again and recieved the ball from Barkley and BOOM... chips it over goalkeeper Bravo.......THAT goal!  WOW!  Thierre Henry said after the game that the most brilliance with this goal was that he could chip it over the goalkeeper AFTER running from the defence with the ball...

Wonderful feeling today :)

That was fucking fantastic today.  After the shite, I take more pleasure in beating our scruffy council house, used to be ok but now entitled wankers, manc neighbours than any other side.

Koeman is a winner, was all his career.  He knows exactly what he wants and what he is doing.  As someone else said, you can see the green shoots of what he's trying to do the last 4 or 5 weeks.  The players look like they are now buying into it, bouyed by the emergence of a couple of excellent youngsters. We get a couple more decent signings in before Feb, and this season might not be as dead as we thought last week.  I honestly think City, Utd and the shite are all there for the taking.

I'm still in shock.

I was watching Rogue One (for the second time) with my Daughter and the ex, so I missed it, flicked on the phone after fighting back the tears at the poignant CGI cameo at the end, and I was totally aghast

Upon watching the highlights, I thought the collective effort and energy levels were incredible; I think maybe Koeman and Kluitenberg's methods are finally starting to pay dividends.

Davies and Barkley showed real class.

But Davies' contribution overall was outstanding.

I genuinely love him already

Was made up for him scoring, and then little nippy, zippy Lookman saucily nutmegging Bravo, was the icing upon the icing and the weird glacé cherry.

The way they all mobbed him shows how they've taken to him.

Oh, and the much maligned Robles and Munes Fori were both great; I'm a big fan of a bucaneering, brain-farting CB, just as much as I am a maverick Winger.

Feels beautiful to be a Blue  :smug:

First time we have done it for 90 mins this season and against a quality side where a lack of concentration cost you dear . City are not shit and the concentration needed against a team that has 70% possession and the likes of Silva , De Bruyne and Aguero is immense . Davies is going to be some player and the way he got back on his feet after his lung buster to score made me smile ( no mean feet ) . Lookmans goal just made me laugh as it came from a Stones error and he looks like Arnold off Different Strokes . Credit like someone else said to Funes Mori and Robles who had excellent games although it was the first faultless team performance this season . Loved Koemann standing over Otamendi and laughing as well ( even Otamendi thought it was funny ) . A great game and I really hope we take the same attitude into games against lesser teams . I could even see myself becoming positive about Everton again .

Although one poster said that not one of our players would get in the City team, which got me thinking, he is wrong, I'd suggest at least 4 of our back 5 (including GK) and Gana would get in thier team and maybe Rom.
