Title: Everton vs Wigan
Post by: Silas on December 07, 2010, 05:22:14 PM
We really have to beat Wigan, I would be incredibly fucked off if we don't beat them at home.

Howard

Neville      Jags       Distin         Baines

Fellaini

Coleman       Rodwell               Pienaar

Cahill

Beckford

3-1 to us Beckford, Cahill, Fellaini.  N'Zogbia for them.

Cant argue with that team at all. If Cahill and Beckford can build an understanding, we could score a few

Why give them 1??

But yeah I can see your reasoning. Must beat them.
I'm hoping for a clean sheet though.

3 - 0 for me Cahill, Beckford and Rodwell.

Because if West Brom can get 4 then Wigan can get 1.

If we can't win this one...ah, I'd rather not think about it.

4-1. Two to Becks. One to Baines. And one to Cahill.

OG for them off an errant Bally header.

dont start with the high scoring win predictions, we aint done it any other week this season so lets just get back to winning and a clean sheet, 1 nil and i'm happy. Its another game where we can easily mess up, we've already done it at least 5 times this year so lets be cautious and not (like the players imo) too cocky. Afterall lets save some goals to stuff city.

Its about time we battered somebody . Like to see Beckford start and get  a couple of goals to boost his /our confidence. The shite have got an easy one ,managerless Newcastle away. :bonk: :headbang:

This.

I'm looking for a solid performance that is full of commitment and hard work.

Too often this season the team does appear to have gone out expecting that the "nearly there" perfomances were just down to bad luck and that it was bound to turn sooner or later and that when it did we'd be strolling to 5-0 victories.

The Newcastle and West Brom games tipified this. A lack of doing the basics properly led to 2 appalling results. This can't be allowed to happen again.

I'd imagine that the team will be the same except for maybe Victor in for Seamus and I'd expect the Yak to start.

There's been the clamour for Beckford, but I'm not sure, based on his early season appearances as a starter, that he's ready to lead the line. The general noise coming from EFC is that Moyes got it wrong by throwing him in too early. He's getting plenty of chances as the game is opening up so I'd imagine that that's how he'll be used for the time being.

He does need to improve on his play when he's got his back to goal and that's a crucial part of the early stages of the game. His confidence won't be helped if the crowd/team are getting annoyed if he's not holding the ball up well enough.

Id go with last weeks starting line up,beckford in for Saha as the only change. We really should win this game but does anyone else get the feeling it will be a 1-1 draw, us making a defensive howler for their goal?
Title: Re: Everton vs Wigan
Post by: blueToffee on December 07, 2010, 08:25:43 PM
That first line up isn't bad, but as mentioned we could well see Anichebe back in and perhaps Yak to start.

Lets not forget Yak was looking dangerous after a run of games before so he can get there again. That said, I wouldn't argue vociferously against Beckford starting as he does deserve another chance. He definitely has progressed since the start of the season (and I don't think that is just down to him being a sub, he has genuinely looked better in certain areas) but it may turn out his game is best suited to coming on in the second half but just not with 10 mins left, at least a solid half hour.

IF Osman is truly fit we may seem him in too, but I think Moyes will keep with Rodwell for a bit longer.

True. Yak works well with Cahill, Pienaar and pretty much everyone else on attack. The more intricate passing game he fosters can tire defenders out over time. And then Beckford comes in.

I think part of the reason Becks has been so effective lately at getting scoring ops is that he's subbing on and changing the style of attack from what Yak or Saha have been up to earlier in the game. So he's coming on against tired defenders used to one thing (or half-a-thing from Saha) and working hard at another tact. And then good things happen for us. Or get to the brink of happening before Becks blazes a sitter over the bar.

When Beckford has started games, the results have been pretty underwhelming.

So start Yak. Save Becks for the last half hour. And give Victor a chance on the right, with Seamus replacing him in the last half-hour. And maybe Ossie in the middle instead of Rodwell.

2-0 to us. Cahill and Fellaini.

I cant believe Saha is starting again, he as done nothing for weeks, what the fuck does Moyesy see in him?. and today's game for me seems perfect for Beckford.

He got a goal vs. champions last week to boost his confidence, we played well last week and are at home and want to put the West Brom debacle right and behind us and against a team who are shoddy defensively and do concede and give you chances and i'd of backed Beckford to at least get a goal today, or maybe 2 if he started and we kicked on from last weeks second half performance.

I can understand what Moyes is doing with him, bringing him along gently, but at home to the likes of Wigan, i'd give him starts at home to teams like them!.

Even if Saha plays alright and gets a goal today, i still wont give Moyes credit cos to me, Saha's performances haven't warranted a start today IMO, to me if your not scoring goals then you should be contributing in other ways and he isn't, he don't hold the ball up well, he don't defend from the front and he doesn't win headers or chase people down and that's the least you should expect when your not on form and scoring goals, you muck in and do your bit for the team!.

Saha seems to have totally lost it. Time to call it a day and give some one else the start, and try to get someone else in when the transfer window opens

Saha is offering fuck all, didn't any one else see Rodders having a go at him for not making a move for him or looking to take the ball when he had nowhere to go towards the end of the half?.

He's a joke, Wigan are leaving space between FB and CB and are midfield is getting on the ball and looking to play are forwards in and Saha or Cahill aren't making the runs and im sure Beckford would make the moves and look to exploit it, Saha should be doing same but he's not doing anything!.

Pretty much this.  Starting Saha was a mistake, but other than that I don't know what more Moyes could have done today.

Our inability to put the ball in the back of the net is beyond a joke now though, it's pathetic that we can dominate games but not score any goals.

The players do have to start taking some responsibility for their failure to score.  Moyes is an idiot for repeatedly playing Saha but then he could have buried his chance, Cahill his, Pienaar his and countless others.  Not to mention the fact that Beckford's goal was onside.

There's also the fact that the goal was onside and the refereeing was inconsistent and largely shit. It's going to be a long season if we can't score.

I don't know what to say after that result.

Congrats to Howard for a much better game, hopefully he got some confidence back.

It was noticeable how much more Coleman got into the game as Pienaar dropped out of it.

As for Moyes, where to from here? Surely, surely he can't keep going with Saha. And if Yak isn't getting a look in I can only assume he like Pienaar and Anichebe is on the out. Speaking of Anichebe he did a couple of things well but not a dramatic impact that you'd hope from someone trying to earn more than 30k a week or whatever it might be. I'm getting even more worried about January though and Cahill being out.

Overall it seems the same problem we've had for for ages, we can't score against teams that come to defend. Maybe we'll get better luck against Man City.

I think the one difference today is that we create plenty of clear cut chances, which hasn't always been the case.

Coleman is looking better and better as a midfielder and he's going to be a top class right back by the end of the year. If Pienaar hadn't been injured I would have hoped to see Anichebe come on for Neville and Coleman slot in at rightback.

Maybe all this malaise is because the club is just stale.  Teams always need new faces and options.  People say stability is a good thing but maybe not in our case right now.

Maybe, and our young players certainly looked at the races today, except for maybe Rodwell. Not much we can do about it though without money. If we had a top class striker that would have been an absolute rout.

but yeah its moyes fault that we wasted 5 brilliant chances

and to the people saying im losing interest etc you guys can just leave tbh

he hasn't scored a goal since last seasons home win again chelsea and got his pay rise,
a goal in the carling cup this season thats all he has done and moyes keeps playing him
from the start .yak great game again the redshit got the winner again stoke and moyes leaves
him out of the side when that waster saha comes back and he will start him again man city as well
wait and see. if we had tevez at the club saha would get the nod ahead of him with moyes still  here
and people wonder why we are in a fight to stay up moyes is your answer.

I agree that Saha has been shit, and it's ridiculous that he's starting, but that's one decision. It was the wrong one, and has been consistently, but today's defeat lies at the feet of the players. We created enough chances today to easily score 6 or 7, but no one put the ball in the net, that's not Moyes fault.

Dropping Yakubu was a big mistake, but we've played well enough in games without him to win consistently, especially today.

It's so much more than just a club as well, Everton is something you feel in your heart. Like you said it's not the players, it's not Moyes or his staff, it's not BK or the ownership, it's Everton. We need a goalscorer.

That is the only obvious problem that I can see with our team at the moment. Maybe a few players to pull their finger out too?

It's so easy to criticise, and it seems like many people on here relish the opportunity to pick David Moyes and the team apart. It seems very cynical, because to me it is so very clear that we are playing well and creating a lot of chances.
Title: Re: Everton vs Wigan

It doesnt help Moyes when every single striker at the club is out of form or not used to playing EPL. Add to that Heitinga has thrown a tizzy, Arteta is not at the races and Pienaar is not handling the pressure of trying to impress potential buyers and try and keep Everton happy at the same time.

To say Moyes was tactically wrong today though is a joke. He could do nothing more than watch us miss chance after chance.  I can see why some people are getting disgusted with the situation, and Moyes must take some blame.

But not today though.

 :snigger:

Monday night, on sky, at least I'll see the game. I haven't seen todays yet, I was at work.

By all accounts we had plenty of chances, 8 shots on and 8 shots off, to their 1 off and 4 on. I think we had 9 corners to their 4 as well. Sounds like we probably deserved something from it and again we hit the woodwork and by all accounts their keeper had a blinder.

Thems the breaks, it's just strange that even with the chances were creating we aren't getting any in.

Yeah, everything's fine. The 'neg heads' are idiots. Lets skip down lollipop lane and dance with the pixies.

None of us said everything is fine. We're all concerned about where we are right now, but we're I fail to see how saying "Moyes argh fucknig Saha y again? taxi for dem both!!" accomplishes anything.

Saha shouldn't have started, and he shouldn't start next week. God knows why Moyes does it but it's brutally frustrating and extremely annoying that he won't start anyone else.

That being said, Moyes can't put the ball in the back of the net, we were set up well today, we went out to win the game and we created a ridiculous amount of chances. How none of Fellaini, Cahill, Saha, Rodwell, Pienaar, Coleman, and whoever else scored is a question only they can answer. Obviously it was Moyes who first brought Saha back into the side and dropped the Yak and that threw us off, certainly, but today was not his fault.

At some point the players have to start playing, there's only so much a manager can do, and too often blame is shifted from the players to managers nowadays, I would like to think our players would stand up and be counted.

So no, everything isn't fine, but if all you're going to do is say that Saha and Moyes are shit, why bother? Just yell it out your fucking window, if not, then contribute something meaningful to the debate.

No one is saying that, they are saying that if you actually watched the game you can see where we went wrong today.
I 'actually watched the game' and no I don't agree that all that is wrong is that we can't put our chances away. That is bollocks.

So today we hit the post,Saha toepoked a shot at the keeper, Beckford had a blatant on side goal disallowed, Fellaini missed a clear header etc etc and you think the problem today wasn't the finishing?   :headbang:

How many games have you enjoyed this season mate?

What the fuck has that got to do with you or anyone else ... I still go to most games and will carry on doing so as I have done for many years through the good times and the bad .... and this is by far from being the worst time I can recall in 41 years .... I'm not trying to influence or educate anyone ... what you choose to do is your choice ... but don't insult me by asking if I enjoy some games or not ... The day I choose to walk out on Everton it will have to be for a worse reason than a few bad/unfortunate results

What else is wrong though? That's what the forum is for.

I'd say we lacked a strong presence in the center of midfield today, both Fellaini and Rodwell were sub par, but we broke quickly and created chances today. We also only gave them two sights of goal all game, one of which should have been called back for a foul on Coleman.

Jagielka was all over the place for the most part, and his passing was atrocious, but Distin looked as good as ever. Neville was uninspiring to say the least.

Our link up play was sloppy today, but we didn't do a whole lot wrong and if Cahill's header goes in, or Beckford's "offside" goal stands then we probably go on to pummel them, especially given how on top we were in the second half.

You need to read what I wrote more carefully. The key word would be 'all'. Of course are finishing was woeful, but that is not the only dysfunctional part of the team. If you think our finishing is the only problem we have got then you are papering over the cracks.

I am not Moyes or Kenwright.  I don't need to paper over the cracks!  Fuck that, I am always honest about what I think of this team.  Today our only real problem (second half) was an inability to put away chances.  Previous weeks the problems have been different and our overall problems run deeper.  However, today the issue was almost entirely our finishing.

Yeah, we were perfect except for our finishing. It was like watching Arsenal until in and around the box. All is well.

What else was wrong? Or do you not want to share your knowledge with us?

I'm honestly asking, what else was wrong today?

Wow overreaction, I didn't mean it how you've obviously taken it! I'll still be watching every game and supporting them but it's so infuriating watching it. In fairness to me aswell i'm alot younger than you so this is one of the worst spells I can remember, you'd obviously argue i've been very lucky in that aspect.

I'm quite happy to be disagreed with, in fact I enjoy a decent debate.  I do take issue with people who contribute nothing other than inane moaning when we're having a shitty time though, and that's where we fall out.

Actually, whilst I'm on about my own personal grievances I'd just like to express my annoyance at people who bleat about "having an opinion" whenever they're challenged about their views.  Osama bin Laden has an opinion too.

Yeah, but Bin Laden is always going on about how we should bring in Joey Barton and replace Moyes with Gary Megson. So I think most people have stopped paying attention to him.
