Good team. i'd just change Jags for Holgate.

Surely Koemans a Freemason. as such he needs to play MASON HOLGATE!

one mason always helps another mason..

He has to play the best side he can,we simply cant afford to lose.Bang a few in and then tinker late in the game but defeat is unthinkable.

If I'm not mistaken, then, the Carrier Bag is a species of reindeer, so, with that in mind, I'm sure Ronald will be in a Crimbo mood and give starts to Niasse and several of his u23 team-mates.  A golfing jolly in Alaska awaits the winners, Ron!

I expect there will be some rotation considering Everton are pretty much playing 2 games per week, we might see some of the fringe players like Lookman play.

We are so missing someone like barkley so for that reason the only other person in our squad and upto speed to fill that position is rooney.. so id drop schneidelin and have gueye and rooney together and he can run about as much as he likes there

                                                                                    Pickford                        or

No ,on the fact that Martina is shite beyond belief and seeing the kid play ten times or so ....plenty to see he's better ...doesn't take a genius to recognise shite .

The assaults on Martina are way over the top. He's not the greatest defender but Coleman wasn't exactly a maestro in that area either. He gets forward and does his job, puts good crosses in. He's doing better than Baines this season and doesn't deserve the criticism when the entire team is performing well below par.

He's doing better than Baines this season and doesn't deserve the criticism when the entire team is performing well below par.

Coleman was shaky defensively when he first came which is why moyes played him right wing rather than have him exposed at full back. However since about December 2012 he has been pretty flawless defensively, cant think of a major fault he has defending and very rarely makes costly mistakes in that time. Martina's level of defending cant be compared in any way to Coleman, you are talking about someone who is and has been one of the most complete right backs in the league for 5 years against someone who lets be honest isnt on our level, or where we should be.

He isnt poor all the time, he was ok yesterday. However his poor moments are of a really bad level and some of the things he does are just really poor in comparison to Baines playing badly he isnt making many mistakes he just isnt doing what we got used to him doing. Defence in any area is a hard position to put up with someone who is inconsistent and range from looking generally ok at most things to doing things like that clearance at home to Spurs last week for the second goal, or the header a few minutes after where he cushioned it down to Kane inside the box. He defends crosses with his back to the play, he has a really poor timing of a leap defensively, he can be easily beaten one on one and he has as we have seen bad errors in him.

As i said it isnt all the time he could be fine on Wednesday then awful on Saturday and cost goals. It's hard to play a defender who has that inconsistency in them because the poor moments cost you goals. If Seamus was fit and playing pretty much every game it wouldnt be a massive issue but because Holgate lacks so much going forward at right back and Martina is playing a lot of games his flaws are being highlighted. It isnt all his fault but he isnt a good right back.

Martina's ball throwing skills aint upto much either twice yesterday in the first half he threw the ball to utd player and also always throws it long instead of retaining possession ,,there was a throw in towards the end of the first half and instead of rooney passing the ball to martina to take he threw it himself and retained possession

It would be nice to get a win under our belt. What sort of a team Koeman puts out will be intriguing, to say the least. He knows this Sunderland game is very winnable. Will he put out a very strong side to try and get the ball rolling, or will he put out a weakened side and risk elimination? The side he does eventually put out on Wednesday will very likely be a pointer to how pressurised he's feeling atm. I'm going for a strong side, with players like Rooney and Michael Keane getting a deserved rest on the bench.

Keep Pickford in goal but fuck Jags and Williams off and play Holgate next to Keane. Two of Vlasic, Lookman or Kev in the wings and DCL upfront.

That's what i'd hope to see anyway

I'm wel up for Kenny playing, but it's standard Everton stuff thinking that just because a player is young and a scouser and has hardly played that he's going to be boss.

If he can't get in the team ahead of Martina he must be doing something wrong.

Firmly in the 'give Kenny a chance' camp.

I also firmly believe until he gets a chance (or two) no one can state with any certainty he is the answer to anything, and I've been one of the U23/England U20 stalkers for 18 months or so ;)

As for Sunderland, their best striker is injured and they may not be allowed to use Browning (Galloway also seems to be injured)

Ruiters
Jones, Koné, Wilson, Oviedo
Cattermole, N'Dong
McManaman, Williams, McGeady
Vaughan

(Fit) back-ups
Steele, Mika
O'Shea, Browning, Love, Matthews,
Gibson, Rodwell
Honeyman, Gooch, (Watmore just returned for their reserves)
Asoro, Maja

I doubt Kenny is doing anything wrong, Koeman has to justify giving Martina a contract. The Saints management team didnt renew Martinas' contract.
Koeman brought him to Saints, then to us..  in 2 years for Saints he played 24 times..

The worst thing about Cuco is. he's fucking lazy and seems half assed with everything, like his cross to Rooney yesterday that Rooney hit wide, soon as Cuco crossed it, he seemed dis interested,  he just stopped and looked at the cross,, no movement to get into the box or to run back, so many times yesterday he seemed lost. yes he attacked down the right, but that was due to the Man utd attacking left winger not tracking back, We could have had anyone there, and they would have had the same space.. Lennon would have done a much better job.

for me, Cuco is a Championship level player.

if you watched the match instead of marking, maybe you would have seen Rashford not track back at all, even the analysis at the end of the match, they where all saying it. Cuco had the space due to Rashford not tracking back.

or are you saying,  Cuco isnt lazy? and half assed? that clearance V Spurs, that led to the second goal was half assed and sloppy. so where his other mess ups,
are you denying that Cuco only played 24 times for Saints? or that his contract wasnt renewed?

No offense Brap,. But your horseshit post was horseshit.

if you feel what ive stated, is indeed dung, please explain why.

Well you think he's playing because he's koeman's mate for one. If that's not horseshit then saddle me up.

Or the idea that Koeman wants to justify signing him on a free...with back to back poor performances. Just doesn't really make any sense.

'Lazy' in a player is something I have a bit of an issue with tbh yeah. What metric are you using to define it, or is it another pat of the equine type?

He's a pretty crap player, but it's straight forward why he's playing. Holgate can't make it past the half way line without turning around and giving it to Keane, Kenny must just not be ready.

I dont think he is Koemans mate, but he is his signing.  i need to improve my horse terminalogy, not seen Martina gallop, he just trots along, he maybe windsucking, but thats going far to low for me.. (sorry if your reading this Cuco)

obviously Koeman has issues dropping the players he has signed, hence the 3 number 10s and the fake 9 he bought.
the only thing that stands up to horeshit is, assuming their friends.. seeming as Martina was in the Feyenoord youth team while Koeman was manager there..  i doubt they knew each other properly until he came to Saints.

So far he has left Klaasen out, left Sandro out, Left Pickford out, left Williams out, left Gueye out and left Martina out so I don't really see the issues about not playing his signings.

I think we will lose but I think Sandro needs 90 mins and Rooney needs a rest . I would also like to see Mirallas and Klassen get 90 and more game time for Lookman . It was a bit better 2nd half yesterday but when they needed to step it up a bit they just walked over us .

This is basically what I do because it moves too fast during the game to keep up... at over 50 pages per match it's a bit of a slog after the fact. I don't think I bothered for Atalanta!

We need to be properly experimental with this Caribou thingy, and Koeman needs to manage confidently, not like he's scared of his position.'

4-4-2 alignment with Rooney not even on the bench (the man needs to rest):

                          Stek

Kenny         Keane     Holgate    Martina

Lookman     Besic       Klaassen       Vlasic

                  DCL         Sandro

I'd rather not play Keane if I knew more about the U-23s.  Also maybe whatsisface (the guy who makes the crosses) instead of Martina at LB, just not Baines.

DCL/Sandro get no more than 60 minutes, Mirallas and Russia POY can finish.  I just want to see them together in this alignment.

Would be surprised if Kenny plays and surprised if Vlasic does not

Lookman should start

Lennon, maybe subs bench

McCarthy - remember him? Subs bench?

Klaassen and Sandro, first eleven - they need games.....................and goals!

I think Niasse should get a call for this. If anything to see if he's improved and can have a career here. He's a striker and needs to be allowed to show what he can do or not, as the case may be. Lòokman out wide and Kenny at right back. I'd keep Pickford in goal. If we want to win a cup we shouldn't play a too weakend side.

I'm normally in the be cautious camp when there is such little evidence of what a player is actually capable of and people tend to get too excited and want people thrown in. However other than the fear of losing another game I think he should be playing this sunderland game. Against a team who are struggling as well and likely play a second team, if we loaned him out it would likely be too a good championship team anyway. But given Martina isnt good, Holgate isnt good enough on the ball for a modern right back it is a chance at home to give him his chance I believe.

These are shite so their second string will be even worse. We've got a big enough squad now to treat this as a game to get a much needed win and confidence, so I hope we play a strong side and win convincingly.

Sig No 10 to run the show with a load of willing young runners around him.

Rest the roonster and play Niasse with sig behind him.

Pickford

Kenny Keane Jags Baines

McCarthy Schneiderlin

Lookman Sigurdsson Mirallas

Niasse

Hmmm. 4-2-3-1 with Mirallas, McCarthy and Niasse starting. Not for me

            Rooney

Besic. Mirallas. Gana, Sig

     Lookman, Jags

Baines, Pickford, Niasse

           Williams

Koeman brings playing players out of position to a new level.

Yeah definitely. Really like what I've seen at youth level.

I just don't like this 'play Kenny he's well better' thing that Everton fans do all the time with interchangeable youth products.

'Put green on ffs'

The assaults on Martina are way over the top. He's not the greatest defender but Coleman wasn't exactly a maestro in that area either. He gets forward and does his job, puts good crosses in. He's doing better than Baines this season and doesn't deserve the criticism when the entire team is performing well below par.

Thought he did well versus United. Deserves a crack at Sunderland.

Pickford

Kenny Keane Jagielka Martina

Sigurdsson   Gueye

Vlasic                 Lookman

Niasse      Sandro

Guy wearing a hat formation

Also, the most running/pace I could put out there.

He works decent with 3 at the back because he's not isolated on defence as much. He actually has a good cross on him and he gets down the line and overlaps well. He's a right mid really.

Sorry but apart from a few runs down the wing and 1 cross he was average at best and he is defensively poor .

Our central midfield needs ripping up and started again. The normally ever dependable Gueye and Schneiderlin have been woeful, but I thought Besic was arguably the worst player on the pitch the other night (which is quite impressive considering some of the shite served up) The only midfielder showing a bit at the moment is Davies and Koeman bizarrely decided to sub him

If we play two defensive midfielders at home to Sunderland I may just shoot myself in the face

Because he's good going forward, he is the only other first teamer who can play left-back, and Baines is not getting any younger (nor is he pulling up trees at the moment) so any chance we get to give him a rest should be taken.

Baines has lost it for me, lads.

I know it's hard to admit, but he doesn't have it anymore.

We can make all the excuses up for him like he isn't supported on the left, we're not giving him the ball etc but he's hit the road to decline.

Which is to be expected like. But it's time to admit he's done.

But in typical Everton fashion we're wheeling him out every game when he can't hack it anymore.

Sadly, yes.

The decline has been steady over a couple of seasons.

His passing is still incisive, but his forays forward are much rarer these days, probably because he knows he lacks the pace to get back, and that we lack the personnel and talent to cover him adequately if he is caught out upfield.

Plus, let's be honest, even in his pomp he was never the best at cutting out crosses either  ;D

I 100% agree on this. We needed a LB badly for rotation at very least over the summer. I also doubt we will deal with this issue in January.
Feel Baines might struggle a lot as the season goes on a tiredness sets in.

Really not sure about the line-up. 1st teamers need to play to get confidence and some sort of cohesion. But then the likes of Baines and Rooney need a rest and can't play every 3 days. Klassen and Sandro could do with a goal. I'd even given Niasse 30 mins.

We need to get our existing strongest team more playing time together to build on the slight positives of the Utd game. If they can get a 3-0 win that's going to help everyone's confidence, one or two players might get off the mark and we can make subs later on.

Koeman will get slaughtered if we go out of this with a weakened team. Don't even take the risk. Get a comfortable win, with a strong team and change the narrative around the club to something more positive.

Problem is how many games we have played as well though. We do need to use the squad and it's not as if we are playing with any sort of coherence any way. 0 goals scored and 12 conceded in the last 4 games suggests changes are needed anyway

We haven't tended to keep the same starting line up for back to back games often this season, if at all have we?

Obviously it makes a lot of sense what you are saying though, we need a win first and foremost. I just think so many players aren't playing well that no one could say with any real confidence which formation or which personnel is our strongest. I do feel we need an injection of youth, pace and width into the side

the rest of the blue 1/4 of Liverpool feel the players we have used (our strongest team) have lacked in intensity as well as any attacking style of play, they also feel we need the youth to give us some passion, guile, pace and endeavor what our 1st team players are lacking.

Don't think there will be. Plenty of listings for the other four games on TV around the world, none for ours. Usual means no stream will be available as there is no source for someone to stream. Don't hold your breath..
I know MrWhite,  Hopefully some random channel around the world who has the rights will show it last minute..  :)

The club should put this one on FB or YouTube, surely there will be highlights as usual on the OS tomorrow so why not show the full game?

Official site says extended highlights from midnight (I guess thats after Channel 5 shows their highlights program)

It'd be daft to play our first eleven. Even Sunderland won't play theirs so our second string should be good enough tonight. I don't think confidence is the problem. It's playing superior teams that has been our undoing.

The problem is almost every team I've seen looks far superior to ours at the minute in the way they play and their cohesiveness, we look like we've put 11 players on the field who have never played together before.

Reckon we will play  5 at the back with no left back so essentially a false left back and kenny RWB midfield. Sandro will drop into the hole behind Klaasen while Vlasic plays a false 7.

Because we have no other left back other than Baines, and Martina who supposedly can play there.

Baines can't play every game for 4 months, and people think martina is the worst football player that has ever lived.

It's not the top video link thing, it's the format of the site. There is a scammer who sets up templates for all matches being played, then embeds other people's streams in his page to make it look genuine. In the streamer's world, the creator of sites like that is the lowest of the low, filling pages with keywords to get google hits, and several layers of pop-ups, etc to generate revenue. Some of the streams will probably work at some point, but ours won't. Chelsea and Arsenal games listed there should be working by now, but aren't, probably because he's not bothered for a lower revenue day (PL is the big hits one) or possibly because he hasn't been able to steal another link to embed yet.

It's being filmed, but not broadcast anywhere, so there is nothing for the streamers to put up. May not have proper camera coverage, often when it's only for highlights they don't use the full camera setup. (so shit replays in other words)

While I think Koeman has been failing at his job thus far this season (b/c of the performances, not the results), I have to hand it to him with respect to DCL. He saw something in him that a lot of us -- including myself -- did not!

Albeit against Sunderland, but that was the kinda result/scoreline we needed, with those scorers too, just a pity Sandro couldn't get on there too.

Hopefully Niasse gets a start Satdy, probably not because Koeman is a stubborn bastard. But let's kick on against Bournemouth and get this shit back on track.

Well they're obviously not because they had experienced premier league players there.

Some players people wanted to see given a chance had that chance and took it. Let people enjoy it.

It's also a good bit of light relief after a totally shit couple of weeks.

You can't start Niasse with Calvert Lewin there and Sandro and Rooney. He may well not even make the bench although I think he should start to.

Of course he doesn't, he's apparently on £50k a week but let's not go overboard about a goal against Sunderland.

Stop being a dick mate.

He hasn't played for 500 days for us and scores within 10min of coming on. i don't care who it was against. We played Split and looked shit. We played Atalanta and looked shit. The likes of Rooney hardly had   look in in those games. he took his goal very well.

he deserves the adulation s he was very harshly treated by Koeman ad many many Evertonians like yourself. You not particularly happy that he might have a role to play and a future here. Because it would men that you wrong... And we know how you like that.

To the tune of Hooked On A Feeling

Oumar Niasse, Oumar Oumar, Oumar Niasse, Oumar Oumar Oumar

Just back from the match and I'm absoloutely made up for the lad. He got the biggest cheer when he came on, everyone was willing him to score and he did. Was a great finish too I thought. We fucked up by not signing a striker and for me he's certainly a good enough solution for the bench until January. He's fast and he can finish and he's willing to work his socks off

A pity that some fans still don't want him to do well and want him to fail, but that's just some people's nature

Tom Davies man of the match for me today, thought he ran the show

Vlasic worked his socks off and tracked back well to help Kenny

Kenny was solid enough, pity we didn't see more of him going forward

Besic gave the ball away a few times with careless passes, and also held onto it a bit too long at times too. Did the odd great slide tackle but he's so raw

Lookman was bright when he came on

Frustrating to see the game pass Klaassen by.

Sandro bright in spells

Overall good win. Would love to win this competition

I'm not arsed about Chelsea.  We don't need to win or have a long run in this Cup (though it would be nice).

We DID need to re-gain some self-confidence, we DID need to see DCL and Sandro play up top together, and we certainly couldn't avoid getting twatted at home to a shithouse pub side like Sunderland.

I feel a little bad for how far they've fallen.  Curse of Moyes, I guess.

It's still probably a bit too soon to write him off but you expect him to at least do better against Sunderland.

I've got my own theory like.

His style is very ball shy, like all the time he was with Ajax and for the Netherlands he is not like a Davies, looking for the ball constantly.

Instead, he gets in like high-value positions, and when the game comes alive so does he. He's come from a whole life of playing with Ajax in which every player is probably super comfortable playing one and two touch stuff in quick succession.

When the ball goes near him he uses it well, and he doesn't often make poor decisions, but he is never going to get on the ball for the whole game or dictate the pace of it. Hopefully his goals and assists start to rack up because that's the cornerstone of his career - timing of runs and clever finishes, if he can do what he does ATM but match his previous output we'll all be very happy...but one without the other is some danger of looking like a luxury.

By their standards, United had a really poor run until pretty much now.  All triggered by Moyes showing up.  No curse relevant to Everton.

I had no idea whether the Moyes impact lingered with Sociedad, just hadn't heard much about them.

In that respect you've just described Tony Kroos for Madrid. Much better control when he plays for them.

lolol

From the poster who's had a constant downer on players like Jakielka.

I praise him when he is good and criticize when he isn't. There hasn't been much to enthuse about with our captain for years now especially when the likes of Williams keeps him out of the team more often than not.

You just seem to take the piss out of Niasse every chance you get. The lad scored after being treated like shit. Worked his butt off to get into the team, even after he was humiliated by Koeman. He played for the u23 and gave his all, went on loan and gave his all and then won his place back here. It's and amazing story and comeback. Look at how Barkley is acting as an example. He could learn a thing or two from Niasse.

It's another reason why I can't take to Koeman. Disgusting behaviour frankly.

I am Sorry for calling you a dick too.

Weird to me that people aren't raving about DCL more and instead seem to be fixating on Niasse. We've properly robbed Sheff United getting DCL for £1-1.5m.

Of course he doesn't, he's apparently on £50k a week but let's not go overboard about a goal against Sunderland.

Who is going overboard? I just said I like the guys attitude...

By their standards, United had a really poor run until pretty much now.  All triggered by Moyes showing up.....

To be fair, Fergie leaving triggered Uniteds dip.

That raking crossfield ball from Holgate to Kenny, and then excellent play and cross from Kenny to Looman was my favourite part.

Klaassen looked nicely involved in those highlights, too.

Sandro had a fair few attempts there like, one of them Van Basten esque! He'll go on a run of getting a few in a few games eventually.

Lads, it was Sunderland we beat, not a premier league side, lets not get ahead of ourselves here, the hard work will start at 3pm on Saturday

He's a wife beater is he?

You got any proof of that? Pretty strong allegation to make about someone

No, quite right, but we needed the win to calm the mood down and remind people what it's like to actually win a game and see goals. Imagine the furore had we lost......

We did need the win, boost a bit of confidence, but it was probably the easiest game we'll have all season, didn't really learn much from it, a win is a win I suppose

Weird to me that people aren't raving about DCL more and instead seem to be fixating on Niasse. We've properly robbed Sheff United getting DCL for £1-1.5m.

I'm not that surprised. It's not a first for DCL to play a key role and score. He's also undoubtedly in the managers mind this season and will get more games, and goals. So while it's great that it's working for the lad, the Niasse thing is the novelty. I suspect there's a fair bit of the ongoing Koeman debate in this apparent 'obsession' with Niasse. No one really expects him to turn our season around or play that much, but then the idea that he would come on in a game and score was equally unlikely a couple of months ago. A lot of people are enjoying it, for a variety of reasons, and deep down I think most doubt we'll see that much of him, so maybe there's a bit of 'enjoy your moment, soon it will be gone' in there too.

I have no doubt whatsoever that shirt sales will show DCL is beloved by the masses. It's not impossible that Niasse starts to get the goals, but I would think his chance will come in this competition as DCL will be playing more in the league and Europe. Niasse's only real chance of becoming a starter would be if someone else gets injured. Which we really cannot afford to have happen.

There's not much to say about Niasse. "other than he's wasted in the U23's and should be available as an impact sub". I think Koeman is probably right, that he doesn't consider him good enough to start. He should be on the bench though, as he was fairly often at Hull.

Looked like Davies was involved in everything going by the highlights which is great to see as well. Couldn't give a fuck if it was Sunderland or  Garston Bottleworks it gave players, fans & manager a lift. Hope he learned that its not all about Rooney.

Spot on mate.

We've got a player here on 60k a week that the manager has for no reason completely barred from all first team duties.

We spent £13mill on him and he's spent time out on loan at a much worse team than ours and managed to score some decent goals. Why not have him on the bench when we literally have no better options?
