Why do we have to play so many matches ffs.

Give us a fucking break Everton.

Pickford
Kenny Holgate Jagielka Baines
Gana Schneiderlin
Lennon Sigurdsson Lookman
DCL

Expecting something like that. Probably be Keane/Williams instead of Holgate but Unsworth had some strong words after the match so I'm not sure.

He certainly wasn't a happy bunny after the game, (lol who was? Apart from a bunch of Italians).

So you would hope he railroads the fucks from tonight and makes changes similar to what you suggest, if he doesn't, well then I' m sorry, but he too will enter into the bullshitter club.

I kind of donít think the problem is the amount of number 10s we have

Feels more the problem is that nearly everyone is playing like total dog shit and everyoneís confidence is at rock bottom

Thereís certainly no room for any player whoís heart isnít in it. For that reason I wouldnít have Schneiderlin anywhere near that team at the moment

Centre back is a total crisis. Williams is finished, Jagielka is nearly finished, Keane is in horrendous form, Mori injured, Feeney not ready. Really worrying as we need a solid defence to start from to grind out points and help us build confidence

Southampton are a dull outfit. Would fancy most teams to be able to go there and get a 0-0 but clean sheets ainít exactly common for us this season

Other end of the pitch without Oumar we are going to struggle for goals

Should be something like

Pickford

Kenny Keane Jags Baines

Gueye Schneiderlin Davies

Lennon Rooney (or Sigurdsson) A.N. Other running player

Need two runners in the front 3 but must have one passer.

Davies could well play a bit further forward to get closer to the front 3 when necessary.

Basically back to the first 35 mins of the second half vs Chelsea.

These donít score many therefore donít make it easy for them.

Tend to agree in the main, but trying to pick the front 3 is really hard. Rooney's the only player who can pass, Calvert-Lewin's the only one who holds it up and Niasse (more of a concern going forward obviously) is the only one who can score.

How do you find a balance when the players all have massive limitations?

If our centre back options weren't so poor it would be a good move to leave Keane out for this and maybe a few more games.

Just looks like his head has completely gone.  It's one thing not being very good but he's done some properly bizarre stuff in recent games.  No way can he be as bad as he's showed lately.

Reality is though the back up options aren't likely to fare much better.

You'd do well to find someone who rates Funes Mori less than me but I actually agree.

Purely just as another option with the bonus of being left footed.

An option for this game could be;

                 Pickford

Kenny  Jags      Keane    Baines

     Gueye  Schneiderlin  Sigurdsson

Lennon       DCL        Rooney

That way get the legs and running of DCL and Lennon plus some hold up play. Players who protect the ball out wide in lennon and rooney. Get a passer in Rooney high up and one in midfield with Sigurdsson. He plays deep for Iceland in a two a lot so he should be able to play a disciplined role in a 3 and link up with the front 3.

At the moment Davies isnt an option. Schneiderlin been really bad but still think he is playing better than Davies or doing less wrong. Klaassen certainly isnt an option. Even willing to try Besic!

Jags and Holgate at the back for me. One game a week from here on in so plenty of recovery time. Play 4-4-2 or 4-4-1-1 and try and pick the same team every week, give them chance to work up some form and relationships.

Having said that it'll be none of the above, we're getting beat again and the world will be falling in once more.

RB: Kenny
CB: Jagielka
CB: Williams
LB: Baines
RM: Vlasic

CM: Rooney
LM: Sigurdsson

Rooney because we need a midfielder who can pass, Beni stays at home and mops up. Sigurdsson and Vlasic tuck in to support the central midfielders. Anyone willing to run behind the defense is welcome in those CF positions.

Yeah, it's not great, but who knows at this point?

I'd probably swap in Lennon for Vlasic, otherwise...yeah, probably best we can do if Holgate isn't available to sub for Williams.  I liked what I saw of Rooney once he dropped deeper in midfield, Beni is more than capable of handling the dirty work.

I think doing that we would run the risk of being exposed in midfield again and leave massive gaps for them to exploit. If you are going to play 2 centre midfielders in a 4-4-2 they either need to be very disciplined and sit or extremely energetic and be able to cover a lot of ground so they dont get caught out when we lose the ball. Also the centre backs are playing so badly at the moment we need to protect them as well as we can. Williams and Keane were very poor last night but at the same time they got no protection in front of them to make it slightly easier.

They dont score a lot of goals so in my opinion we should be going for a solid first approach and try and exploit their weaknesses. We are going behind in too many matches, 2 behind in pretty much every game with Unsworth so we shouldnt go with an expansive attacking lineup and risk it happening again. Get a solid shape, protect the defence, frustrate them and if we can go on push on for the winner then great but the first priority for this game should be organised, solid and give us a chance of winning the game without having to score 3.

Itís so hard psychologically if you think you need to score 2 to have a chance of getting anything out of the game.

Then add in the mental pressure of being 2 goals down repeatedly and itís no wonder confidence is completely shot.

We ain't scoring three goals away from home without the pest that is Niasse, which is what we've needed to do lately, so the best we can hope for is try to keep a clean sheet and hope for something at the other end. Feels fuckin depressing saying that like as it seems like we're living in hope but we'll be grateful for anything at the minute.

Perhaps Sigurdsson will be able to give us more protection down the left too. Baines dropping off so he can defend his man is causing no end of trouble with the space he's leaving.

Been a while since it looked like it couldn't get any worse but it has, got to hope the other night was as low as it can go, and we get a reaction from so many players you wouldn't piss on if they were on fire lately.
Title: Re: Southampton vs Everton
Post by: GLewis on November 25, 2017, 06:27:52 PM
I think you often have a point where you think this is the lowest (2-5 at Home); then you have some signs of life (Chelsea away / Watford); then you have something even worse than your previously presumed lowest point (1-5 at home in Europe).

Prior to the even lower point most people pin the blame on previous manager / circumstances and then just expect it will be better now because those are no longer relevant.

Whereas in fact the problems were more widely spread.

The new lowest point usually makes people realise that they too werenít doing enough and thatís when you can start to rebuild. Although you do need some assistance with tactics etc that are commensurate with basically starting from scratch.

Despite all that's been said about the owners/managers/recruitment, a lot of blame has to lay with the players.

These are professional being paid a fortune and they should be capable of a minimum level of performance which is FAR higher than they are giving.

How the fuck are they all just so incapable of setting themselves up as a team and doing what they have done well for years ?

Baningime then

Right but like, isnít that a team you got given?

Personally

Pickford
Kenny Keane Jags Baines
Gana Beni Sigurdsson
Lennon DCL Vlasic*

*front three are sort of blind swings. Vlasic looks alright, Lennon the only sure thing (which says a lot about the state of our squad) and DCL has done OK in a shite situation and would like him to get a few more goals.

Havenít seen Rooney in the Atalanta game but Iíve heard he was pure shite. He could maybe play where Sigurdsson has been picked above, or maybe where DCL is, but imo itís more valuable to ply the above.

The Mirallas thing is a damning indictment of how poor our squad building is. 3 years out of date and virtually threatless and heís still undroppable.

Didnít see sandroís performance the other night but would think DCL is still probably more suited to leading the line on his bill.

This is where I get upset about the 2 game ban again. Really not a fan of DCL up top by himself, I thought we'd tried this experiment over and over too. Very little goal threat and he doesn't have the tenacity of Niasse.

Mirallas and Schneiderlin...maybe they'll turn up today? Is that what Unsworth is hoping? I can't remember the last time either did though.

It seems odd to me...in the past when we 've lacked quality up front we 've packed the midfield and been hard to beat. These days we could play 5 defensive midfielders and still get torn to shreds.

But weíre not playing 5 are we.

Thatís the problem is weíre going in with 4 attackers when weíve been leaking goals.

Bonkers stuff.

DCL is always useless when he plays up front on his own. he is much more effective and actually manages to look like a premier league footballer when he has someone along side him. absolutely no point what so ever playing him up top on his own as it only serves to knock the ladīs confidence. put Rooney on beside him and he might come into his own.

I agree, the only time it's worked has been Man City but there has a lot of other games where he just isn't competing enough as the "target man" to be worthwhile.

Clearly one of the biggest problems in the team...I mean the clearest change from this season to last is we've replaced Lukaku with DCL. He doesn't look like scoring and he doesn't bring in other players enough either.

Get Rooney on (Schneid off) to play from deep behind Gylfi as the #10.

Sandro on to provide a finish.

Sorted, win 1-2

I want that, but also Sandro and a winger for DCL and Mirallas.  One of those has to give.

Post by: blueToffee on November 26, 2017, 08:33:22 PM
I'd be more encouraged if we had put a move together that ended in a goal rather than getting a strike out of nowhere. We're still very much second best again today.

Yeah, there is no coherency in the attack.

It's a mistake or an individual piece of brilliance (or perhaps that extra bit of effort in Niasse's case) that is getting any goals for us.

We were playing 442 for much of the game though.

Mirallas seems to just play wherever the hell he wants. bring on vlasic.

I agree that DCL is way below the standard required but to be fair on him he is only playing because Niasse is unavailable. Overall truly awful, probably the worst side in the division. We are in serious decline as a club thanks to terrible off field decisions.

maybe instead of a winger just Sandro for Mirallas, let him play alongside DCL.  That way Rooney can still come on and provide some creative support from midfield.

Gobsmacked people want attacking subs to be made. Surely we should be looking at trying to plug some of the gaps in midfield with an extra destroyer.

We could play Mirallas up top, Vlasic left. Rooney just up top? Or Sandro? None of those might be the answer, but DCL has proven many times he doesn't offer enough.

We only really have Baningime as an option defensively. Plus we'd do better if we could make the ball stick up top.

It's over for Rhino now.

What's next?

I'll go ahead and get on record here: BIG SAM IN.  I've said it.  Who wants to join me.

He should've been appointed three weeks ago. I think he could still save us. Or even uncle-Tony. We all see what's looming ahead of us now.

Relegation would be a disaster beyond anything else in our Club History.

Best case: like Newcastle, return to the league but no longer to challenge for Europe again.
Worst case: Wednesday, Leeds, Villa?

It's time to bring in Allardyce - who will be demanding twice the salary he would have taken a month ago.  Does anyone else have another manager available NOW who will come into this shambles?

Strikers that cant score.

Some of the none existing defenders? Some midfielders that hate to keep the ball within the team?

It's harsh to be too critical though.

He must be approaching the title of longest serving caretaker manager now.

Exactly. He's lasted longer than most permanent managers, Frank De Boer would have loved a run like Unsworth has had.

We have to get a new Manager in ASAP hopefully today, and working tomorrow, because if West Ham beat us on Wednesday, we are firmly in the shit. Not just skirting with relegation, but in a true relegation battle at Xmas. I feel sick to my stomache, with just the tought of it, never mind the reality.

I think Dyche and his disciplined, solid teams are more needed now and perhaps a Silva type if/when we are more secure and steady. But the decision needs to be now.

Several players have contributed nothing positive and lots of negative parts of play. Loads of mistakes, no confidence. It couldnít be any worse.

If they donít sign a manager by the end of next week, Moshiri and Kenwright should seriously consider their positions. I fully blame them for everythinng results wise going forwards.

Apart from the lack of morale there are also a lot of substandard players who are not good enough for this league. A tidy but ordinary Southampton should have got 7 goals. The target now must be to avoid the bottom 3 places but it will be difficult. Unsworth is clueless as a manager, which is certainly not his fault.  If he is kept on then we will be relegated.

Especially one that's pretty much guaranteed a win every week. Apart from when they're getting dry bummed across Europe. ;)

We didn't sign big names, we signed average names made to look big by the ridiculous transfer fees we paid for them.

Absolutely, it was similar to Colin Harvey's spending spree; they're not terrible players, they are just achingly average, and they are currently looking shit because they have been coached poorly and they are at a pretty oddball club, that has no stability or coherent identity or direction.

I'm not excusing the player's performance at all, but a good manager should be able to motivate players, get them disciplined and doing what they're supposed to be doing.

There's no confidence in the players, they look mentally shot.

The first step is getting someone in.  Unsworth is utterly clueless.
Having so many shit players is not at Unsworths door, good luck to any turd polisher incoming.

Really enjoyed the transfer window tbh and how decisive and quick we got our deals done.

In reality it now is probably the worst transfer window we have ever had.

I don't know. Think we just threw money at them. Keane in the last year of his contract 30m. Pickford from a relegated club 25m. Sigurdsson practically on strike 45m. Rooney finished 150k a week
I think we fans lost all sense too in the excitement of being big time again

Unsworth should resign purely for his own pride and dignity, let the shower of cunts above him rot in hell
I would qualify that and say he should ask to revert to his previous successful job with U23s and be satisfied with that in the future. He should not leave Everton.

My thoughts excatly. It seems we have lost the magic of playing for Everton.
It used to mean something, you wore it with pride.
Somethings been lost on the way, even though Unsworth all about passion and pride.
Clearly these players dont get it.

Unsworth has tried to enforce his romantic blue vision on the players, but it's pointless in this day and age for many of them.  At the end of the day it's a job and if the players haven't come through the ranks, supported the team as a lad, then the spiritual connection isn't there and that's fair enough.

What we need is a manager to motivate the players to do their jobs to the best of their ability, regardless of what club they are working at.

It always has been as much about the players we signed and the players we didn't replace as about the manger.

Firing a manager doesn't fix the recruitment issues of the summer. However, doesn't mean the manager gets to be absolved from those mistakes.

Unsworth will still be in charge on Weds and Sat
there's no way we can afford for that to be the case, they aren't games we can afford to be throwing away.
If we were to announce a new manager tonight, and he turned this around by Wednesday, and again by Sat, the name of that manager wouldn't be Martin O'Neill, or Big Sam, or Sean Dyche or any of the names being muted with us, he would be a miracle worker the most sought after manager in the game.

Or you could just play an attacking open system, leave massive gaps for players like Boufal and Tadic to have an easy ride and allow a team who have scored 9 goals in 12 games before today stroll to score 4 without having to do anything.

Baffling lineup, tactics and system. I was all for giving him these games after the international break to see what he had but we have to get someone in in the coming days based on his inability to see that playing an attacking system with these players with no confidence is a bad idea.

I have been supporting Everton since my Dad started taking me in the 60's. In all my time being a Blue, I have lived through some fantastic times and some pretty low ones. I have followed us religiously, both home and away.
I am fortunate enough to remember different decades when I never even contemplated us getting beat. Even if we went behind, I was always convinced that we would pull one back and go on to win (most of the time we did).
I also vividly remember the days of Billy Bingham, Gordon Lee, Mike Walker and Walter Smith. That was hard to watch (maybe I'm being a little harsh on Bingham). But in all that time, the thought of relegation never once crossed my mind, Never!
Even with the 2 Great Escapes of 94 and 98 against Wimbledon and Coventry, I was convinced of our survival. But now???
Make no mistake, we are in big trouble and if things are not sorted at Board Room level quickly, with the appointment of a competent manager followed by massive support in the January window, I fear we are sunk.
I have listened to the many opinions of what has gone wrong with us. I personally cannot attribute it to one person or one act. To completely implode in such a short period of time is both baffling and frightening.
Unsworth is a man out his depth and should not be in the position he has found himself thrust into.
For the first time ever in my life, I am concerned that we will be relegated. And make no mistake, unless we act, and act right now, we will.
The time for talking is over and Mr Moshri has to act immediately.

I have to concede that with the players he has available Unsworth is out of his depth . He does not have a hope in hell of getting a tune out of them . With Pickford , Keane , Williams , Jagielka and Baines to chose from at the back any manager who comes to this club will perform a fucking miracle to keep a clean sheet this side of Christmas . I reckon Joe Royle whispered in Unsworths ear " Lad this is beyond dogshit get your coat " . Blame fairly and squarely on Moshiri and the board . Koeman is probably thinking " Oumar do I look like I give a fuck I don't have a locker now " .

It is grim right now, Those who put the money in (owner and fans) have to be worried right now, those that take the money out (players) don't seem by their repeated failure and lack of commitment ... we have after all played over 20 games now, appear to give a toss or simply not be good enough.

Personally just clinging to the fact that a couple of wins is massive when you look at the table right now, OK is a big ask with our goals against tally, but you have to believe that we will turn this around.

Like him, or loath him, the thinking behind leaving Rooney, an experienced footballer on the bench today is something that only those making the decision could explain.

People need to stay calm. We not getting relegated. We were crap today but get any manager in, even Koeman and we will be ok. We just need to pick a better team. Set up defensively and look to play on the break or hope for some quality form Gylfi, Rooney etc. Rooney has to play. He is a better midfielder than anyone at the club. He is a better striker than anyone at the club and possibly even a better no 10 than anyone bar possibly Barkley. He just has to play.

Managing us now is quite easy I reckon. Set up to contain and play on the break. Stop the spaces. Slowly pick up points here and there. We get to 45 points and everyone thinks you a miracle worker.

Shows how clueless Unsworth is that he can't do simple things. Even Holgate one mistake a game is better than any of Keane, Williams or Jags.

That comes across as a bit delusional. Even Koeman? He started this mess with his choices. I'm including the summer in that, most of the signings have been woeful or woefully utilized. Rooney is not the answer, and that kind of pandering is why he runs around all over the pitch trying to make things happen. He can help, but he's not the best at anything at the club. Niasse plays a couple of games and scored more than him all season. Barkley would walk into this team ahead of him as a midfielder.

As for not getting relegated. We've got a good chance to sort things out but that requires the right decisions being made that have been sorely missing of late. We need the right manager and the right recruitment. We've conceded the most goals out of any team in the PL this season. This is not an easy job as that sort of turnaround doesn't happen overnight and we've already wasted a bunch of time with Unsworth. Plus the defensive situation is masking the fact that we're pretty shocking all around, with a midfield that can be carved open at any moment yet can't create chances to a forward line which struggles to score.

We need a miracle worker. Any chance of getting JC in?

He can turn water into wine, heal the sick, give fishermen psychic powers, control the weather, make a picnic feed 5000, raise the dead and he has even been known to walk on water after one too many in his local in Galilee.

But I think you're asking a bit too much now...the man has limits afterall!

Not much choice there, it was probably the most sensible option given that with the defenders we've got, playing for a clean sheet would be just as suicidal.

Donít think so.

We saw away at Chelsea and at Lyon for an hour that with a solid midfield whose brief is to defend first and foremost that we didnít concede chances with every attack.

Would you really still not have dyche?

Not unless weíve no idea after Silva.

If we were playing defensively now and losing then itíd be clearer that we needed someone whoís really good at that.

As it is weíre playing wide open selections / personel so I still think any sensible manager will just organise things better as a starting point which will improve things no end.

You've still got to try and get a tune out of players like Schneiderlin, Williams and Keane though. No mean task whatever the formation.

I would assume that 8 out of 10 outfield players had that brief today, the only question is about Sigurdsson. The rest were picked for their defensive "prowess" in a well-practised formation they're all familiar with. And yet as soon as Kenny was taken out (which was a foul by the way, but let's not blame that), they just ran through us. Not because of our formation, not because we didn't have any defensive players on the pitch, but simply because we lost our shape completely and no-one switched to the right to cover for Kenny.

Just back from St.Marys, I don't need to tell anyone that saw it what car crash it was but a couple of incidents, one of which very disturbing that might not have been picked up on the telly ? Whilst Baines was being treated, Ashley Williams was warming up running the line towards the Everton fans, every time he faced the away end running towards it he was booed loudly from a section of our own fans, he looked up and was booed even louder, he obviously had to warm up but I can't imagine what was going through these fuckwits minds, clearly he was going to have to come on, did these idiots really think that would help ! It almost started a bit of an altercation as clearly the majority of supporters told them to shut the fuck up or get out, to be honest I really felt for the lad.

The other observation, hats off to Kenny ! He was the only player that walked right up to the away fans to applaud them, others did but from the comfort of the half way line, Kenny was duly applauded for his respect. Otherwise a sit day !

It's exactly because of this type of gutless, snidey comment that rainbow laces are being worn to raise awareness.

If they could work out what could be used to represent cunts, then maybe they'll represent you.

Having so many shit players is not at Unsworths door, good luck to any turd polisher incoming.

I agree.  Unsy inherited a team low on confidence and in some cases, ability.  However, things have got worse since he has been in charge.

He has had a crack, it hasn't worked out at this time.  Perhaps he'll have another go after more experience, but it's clearly the time for someone else who can motivate players.  There should be pride in the shirt, but it isn't the be all and end all.

We're massively in the shit at the moment, but we're fixable with the right person(s), both on and off the pitch.

Like most people on here, I'm worried about premier league survival, but I'm confident it can be done...however, I'm less confident in the board finding the right people and money being released in January, and therein lies the rub.

I do think youíre talking sense but unsworth has been saying about getting back to basics and finding a recipe that gets you points in the prem which to me sounds like keep a clean sheet and nick one talk.

We did have two holding midfielders and we werenít exactly playing expansive football, more just clearing our lines and lumping it up to DCL.

But for whatever reason there looks like no organisation whatsoever. Every time thereís an attack or a corner it just goes totally to pot.

Awareness of homophobia in sport and supporting LGBT people in football.

Avoiding a loss on Wednesday depends on what kind of support we get.  With Moyes' return, maybe a bit more atmosphere?

Typical of this club to repeatedly go to clubs that havent won for years,or this strikers never scored since out of nappys and like manna from heaven we make everything right for them.No bottle,no leadership no plans or system in place, jags as a captain is mute, fucking  silent. The only laughable reaction this squad gives, is to look at each other in surprise as the goals go in.

So first match I've been to this season and I guess I got what I was expecting.  I still had that stupid optimism in the build up to the game, god knows why though.

We need to get out of this somehow, I can't give up on us yet, there are still a lot of games to be played.  So the positives.....

Sigurdsson - saw on the match thread he got a lot of stick but to me he looked like one of the few players who put some effort in and scored a wonder goal.
Lookman and Vlasic - looked tricky when they came on and actually made us look like we could create something.

That's it, I'm out of the positives.

So the only thing that can be learned from this match for me is start Lookman, Sigurdsson and Vlasic behind the striker.

Fuck knows what else needs to be done though, cause there is something SERIOUSLY wrong here.

Canít believe this.

Our owner is looking increasingly like Tony Fernandes, our DoF doesnít appear to actually do anything, we donít even have a manager, our players to a man have thrown the towel in and on the pitch weíre leaking goals, losing every game and sinking like a stone.

The club is currently a shambles from top-to-bottom and some fans see fit to focus their aggro on rainbow shoelaces. Fuck right off

I'd play Vlasic and Sig every game. Get Vlasic used to playing off the left like Hazard used to and give him some confidence. He's the first player since Pienaar we can fire a ball in to and it sticks so get him used to playing with Baines and actually have some consistency in our selections. Similarly with Sig in the No 10 role.
You can't make half a dozen changes every game, and change your formation 2-3 times during it, and expect any of them to know what the fuck they're doing.
