Cenk Tosun has vowed to bring goals to Everton and show fans “the kind of player I am” after the striker completed his move from Besiktas on a four-and-a-half-year contract to the end of June 2022.
The 26-year-old Turkey international, capped 25 times for his country, revealed that the eagerness shown by manager Sam Allardyce and by the Club to secure his arrival at Goodison proved persuasive in his decision-making.
Strong, two-footed and a formidable goalscorer in his time in Turkey’s Super Lig – in 96 appearances for Besiktas since the start of 2014/15 he has scored 41 goals, more than any other player in the division in that period – Tosun has been described by the Blues boss as “strong mentally with a good pedigree”.
And he is determined to show Evertonians that he can replicate his form in the Premier League, having spearheaded Besiktas’s charge to successive domestic titles and into the knockout stages of this season’s Champions League.
“It feels great to be an Everton player,” Tosun told evertontv. “I’m really happy to be here and happy that everything is done. I’m really excited to play for Everton as soon as possible. Everton is a great club with a big history and a big culture and I’m looking forward to showing the fans the kind of player I am.
“I bring my skills here and everybody is going to see what kind of player I am. I believe I can be a good player in the Premier League for Everton.
“The Premier League is a strong league, I know that, so my own physical strength will help me. Also I can use both feet the same and I believe I am a good striker in the box.
“I’m really looking forward to training with my teammates and getting to know them and, of course, I want to play as soon as possible. The Tottenham game will be the first game I am available for and I’m very excited about it already.
“I’m really excited to work with my new teammates because Everton has really, really big names, big players. I’m excited to play with them and to learn from them as well, players like Wayne Rooney and the very good creative players we have here, too. They can help me score goals.
“I know the guys as I’ve always watched Everton’s games from Turkey, so I know a bit about the team already. I hope they can make a lot of assists for me!”
Tosun joined Besiktas in the summer of 2014 from fellow Turkish side Gaziantepspor where he had forged a reputation as one of his country’s most lethal forwards.
Tosun scored 20 league goals last season as Besiktas retained their Super Lig crown and scored a contender for Champions League goal of the season with a brilliant bicycle-kick finish past Benfica goalkeeper Ederson.
He added: “The manager and the Club really wanted me very much and that is why I am here.
“Sam Allardyce was a big part of my decision. He said he really wanted me here and to feel that, of course, is another big reason to come to Everton.”
Allardyce made Tosun his No.1 target in January and he is pleased that the deal has been sealed early in the transfer window.
“This lad looks like he is strong mentally and has a good pedigree,” said the Blues manager.
“He is Turkey’s No.1 striker and has scored goals in the Champions League and the Turkish League but he is desperate to play here in the Premier League.
“He is an all-rounder, with good movement. He is two-footed, perhaps not the biggest but he’s very efficient in the air and in the box he gets good space to get his head on the ball.
“We looked at the qualities of the player, his talent and goalscoring, and his resilience, too. I do not think you can look any more than we have done and, for the price, he is the best in Europe at the moment.”
Tosun arrives at Everton one week after scoring on his farewell Besiktas appearance in a Turkish Cup tie – and after finding the net the eight times in 12 league starts this season.
He scored on his Besiktas debut in 2014 – a 1-0 victory over Mersin IY – and struck his first European goal in the same year to propel his side to a 1-0 Europa League win over Tottenham Hotspur.
Germany-born Tosun was snapped up by hometown club Eintracht Frankfurt aged five. He was a star of the Bundesliga club’s youth ranks, scoring 20 goals in 40 matches for Eintracht’s Under-19s.
But after making one first-team appearance for the German side he was prised to Turkey by Gaziantepspor where he made a lightning start, scoring six goals in his first six matches.
He ultimately scored 39 goals in 92 starts for the mid-table side and won his first Turkey cap in a World Cup qualifying match against Holland in October 2013.
Tosun represented Germany at every age group level from Under-16 to Under-21 – scoring in a 2-0 victory over England on one of his two Under-21 appearances – before pledging his allegiance to Turkey, the birthplace of both his parents.
He represented his country at the 2016 European Championship and, with eight goals from his 25 appearances, is Turkey’s first-choice striker.

Do they not realise there’s a game on?
-
You’re supposed to bury the the bad news with good news after the event. Not during.
-
Confirmed a signing 1-0 down at half time in the derby. Does it get more everton than that?
-
.
-
Holy fuck
-
We've done a goal, we've done a fucking goal
-
Our media team is a fucking disgrace
-
Season is pretty much over so at least he's got a pressure-free five months.
Bit gutted for the lad that he's give up a CL tie against Bayern Munich for this.
-
Our media team is a fucking disgrace
Talk about shooting your load too early...
-
That article is nice and all, but what's his shirt number?
We need to know the stuff that really matters. Without having to look at pictures or videos.
Edit: I did not find his shirt number in the video. :(
-
I’ve got that desk top calendar

-
Welcome to the Blues, Cenk!
It was a disappointing result today, but not a disappointing performance!
Now, let's see how high we can climb in the league.
Onwards and upwards from here on!

Could have played in the derby.. dunno if I’ll evee forget that.

Just like watching Arouna Kone
-
Except cenks goal ratio is like a goal every other game and kones is goal every other season
-
Still can't get over them announcing this at half time during a Derby.
What a club.
-
hope this lad's got the right mindset because there's going to be a bit of pressure on him to perform right out of the gate

Ah, Cuco there in Southampton colours. Those were the days.
-

Very little pressure I'd say. Nobody has really staked any sort of claim to be the main striker, we're out of the running of every competition so while I hope he is super impressive from the get go, he can get away with a decent handful of goals, showing some good hold up play...basically showing signs of being a competent PL striker.
Plus until we get the service right, he has a little leeway from the start. He's not going to score if we can't create chances for him. These are the problems our other strikers have been dealing with too. The hope would have to be that he'd be able to hold the ball up better and bring others into the game more so in turn we'd create more chances. If we can get an attack minded LB and perhaps a forward thinking CM/AM we may find some balance and may yet play some decent football between now and the end of the season.
This is part one of at least a three part puzzle in the short term.
-
What pressure the season is pretty much over for us ....ease him in nice and softly.
Lol. Have you read this forum, or Twitter lately?? If he has one bad game he'll be tossed aside and told to get bent. It's fuckin ridiculous right now.

Haha, yeah.
Totally inexplicable.
Everton.

Brilliant!
-
We're known for our patience if nothing else.
It's fair enough when trying to challenge anything ,but we're challenging fuck fuck all now 👍
-
He was at the match last night so obviously signed earlier on in the day, to announce they way we did was a fucking joke, especially with Chelsea and Barkley going on
-
Tbf they could have their SMM tool set to send at a peak time and I’m sure they would have had a spike in online followers at HT. lazy but a possibility.

A bit of transparency from 'buying Club... and lower then what 'the rags' have quoted. We don't know what in a lot of transfers whether the figures are what they are blah blah...

The Voice of Turkey, no less! He can also sing with both feet. I think he is going to be a very popular guy. - Just so long as he doesn't sing the blues, but sings FOR the blues - with his feet!

Absolute nothing fee in this day and age.

What a club.
At least we're announcing players we've actually signed. No more Riquelme's. That's something, at least.
-
Not really a risk at that kind of money, especially when you see the likes of Andre Gray going for not much less.
-
Why would they reveal this signing when they did? I really dont get the logic behind it

Okay bad timing get over it, he's signed done and dusted, agree Sith Escala.
-

They knew we were going to get beat and couldn't be arsed seeing anything Everton after the game so they did it to get it out the way.
I actually think this is why.

You cannot be serious, surely not ?

https://mobile.twitter.com/_pauljoyce/status/949598282682109952
If you compare that to the money we spent in the summer, he'd be soemthing like our fifth biggest signing (cost wise), absolute Bargain.
-
You cannot be serious, surely not ?
It actually makes sense when you think about it. The people on Twitter were obviously thinking 'people wont be arsed about this mediocre signing if we get beat' So they said it whilst there was still a glimmer of hope left in the derby.

Signing players is probably the only excitement you get as a football fan, hope and what not. More so when you're not going to challenge and win things. it's just weird
-

On the podcast that someone kindly linked to earlier in the thread, the Turkish journo mentioned about besikas fans still following their players when they had left the club and that we would "gain" 1.5m Turkish followers. I imagine it would be something to do with the timing in Turkey for them then, as there's no other reasonable explanation.
It doesn't really matter though.

At least...hopefully...we've got the striker situation resolved. This is the guy who is being asked to replace Lukaku. His goalscoring stats look decent, let's just hope he actually fits whatever the hell the system is that we are trying to play.
-
ScoutNation always put together the best videos
Doesn’t look the sort who’s going to run all day like DCL or bring other players into play much but seems to come alive when the ball does get around to him. Capable of holding up the ball to a basic level, composed in the box and always on the move when it does get near him.
Looks like we’ve got another penalty taker as well.
Even with Baines, Sigurdsson, Rooney, Klaassen and now Tosun, we’ll probably lose a potential shootout knowing Everton.
-
-
Looks to have the range just like Sandro in his promo vid...
-
Some very impressive goals there Sandro, this bloke might just be the real deal
-
He looks strong with good close control. Most importantly there are a few examples of him just wellying the ball in from close range. Promising
-
Welcome Cenk, hope you will bring us lo'ts of goals :)
-
Some good finishes in there - reminds me of jelavic in that he doesn't seem to have to over think anything..... One touch, and bam!
Looks promising
-

Not being negative lads but let’s reserve judgement for the minute, I seem to remember great goals from Sandro on utube
-
If he can get on the end of a cross then he's better than what we've got already. Liked it when Kenny hit the early cross the other night. Could be useful with a striker who can head it.

I have to admit I'm not approaching this with any patience. If he's not great immediately I'm gonna throw my toys out of the pram. I want goals and I want them now.
Anyone care to talk some sense into me?

If he doesnt score at least 2 against spurs hes shit and the worst signing ever

Is that Moshiri
-
Massively dependent on service. Need to get him the ball into feet as much as possible, ideally with support. If we can do that, then hopefully we can get a proper idea of him as a player over the next few weeks. Wouldn't expect too much against Spurs.

Or useless Turkish twat as he’ll be known in March.
-
I have a distinctly Everton feeling about this, he's either shit and homesick by May or will score twenty goals in a meaningless season and get poached by a big boy in the summer.
-
Came across very well so far in interviews and social media. Speaks good English and says all the right things.
Cenk appears a bright lad and should up the dressing room IQ, especially now that Barkley's gone. :snigger:

Must give him time to settle in and acquire the scouse accent.
-
Will give him the seemingly mandatory 38 games before making up my mind. Full games though, not combined minutes on the pitch.

Id like to think this is an option but I think he'll be thrown in at the deep end and its either hit the ground running or you dont make it as we'll sign someone else.

On the Angry Birds Facebook page...not bad exposure I suppose to 24 mil followers (compared to 3 mil on EFC FB page).

Sam best change his tactics up a bit then..... im growing tired of the very predictable attacks down the right ending up with a wayward cross from Holgate :(

Thought he looked decent given it was his first game in the PL and what he has to work with.
Wins every header.
You can see already he’s light years ahead of DCL or Niasse.

Yeah I thought it was promising.
Looks like he doesn’t mind the physical side of things (which someone like Jelavic didn’t) and good movement across the line which should be useful in home games (rather than someone who just stands next to CBs).
-
Looked a striker, but he'll need support. As much as I wanted to see him, it was sad that was his first game we didn't even given him a chance.
-
Just need a decent 9 players behind him now.
-
can't really tell his qualities from todays game. He ran offside way too much.
Also, he probably checking the quality of his Latin at the moment.
-
It was the only decent part of the game today, but it was equally frustrating because you know all he's going to be doing is running laps of the pitch to chase shit long passes.
-
I’d like to see if he can finish a chance, but he looked decent considering it was his first game in the league; unlucky for him which game he happened to make his debut for
-
Yeah very positive first performance from the lad, although I bet he's already beginning to wonder what he's let himself in for. He didn't have a sniff to judge his finishing on but put himself about well, held the ball up well, was good in the air, and looked decent with his use of the ball.
-
Thought he did well with what he had available. Certainly good in the air and fancies a physical contest.
Be good to see how he does if he ever gets a chance to shoot
-
Echo the above, looked alright looking forward to playing someone shite at home so we might possibly make a chance for him.
-
Back to the scenario that the next two home games against WBA and Leicester are must wins to stay away from the trap door
-
if he ever gets a chance to shoot
Don't be fuckin ridiculous!!!

I never comment and just read around here but I’m calling this out for BS. It was 7 years ago and he was 19. The fact so many Turks are interested in Everton now speaks volumes of the esteem he’s held in by Beşiktaş fans - who he played for for a lot longer than Eintracht.
He may well be a dud, but this claim is utter bullshit. According to Beşiktaş fans nobody worked harder.
-

Just hope it's bullshit .

He looked ok in parts against spurs until we just gave up.
You cant blame his performance against West Brom as he may as well have not been playing the way we played.
Id have preferred him to have started over Niasse like but we should not be writing him off after 1 and a half games.

"so many Turks" is a bunch of fake twitter bots that were deployed by Besiktas to generate excitement among the Everton fanbase for the proposed transfer.
When you consider the money at stake and the very low cost these days of deploying fake accounts on social media, it's almost more surprising that this kind of tactic hasn't been adopted sooner.
What do you reckon @Ridge (http://www.nsno.co.uk/forums/index.php?action=profile;u=60), you with me on this one?

Turkish player of the year? ;)
In Cenk's case, it seemed organic enough, there wasn't much contention. When people try to force or change a narrative, you'll normally find disputes, or people in the know whistleblowing, calling the information into question. Not seen anyone doubting Cenk was a quality, effective and respected forward in Turkey. But do think the opposition fans thanking the potential buying club would be a fairly easy one to push.
When clubs are negotiating price, selling clubs put out rumours to try and increase price, if a buying club can devalue, they'll probably do that. Can't remember too many players being bought because of fans, but it could certainly grease any friction if you caught a bite. When there is less knowledge, the variables are more malleable.
From his profile and watching him run about a bit, I'd be expecting him to be someone in a Costa type mould, strong, abrasive, making space for others, decent finisher, aerial threat etc. Presume the idea would be to get Sigurdsson to put the ball on his head.

Hope he starts on Saturday, we won't see what he can do with little cameos from the bench.
-
Yeah I’d like to see him start, be nice if Theo could lay a couple on for him, don’t think I’ve seen him have a chance to shoot yet.
-
Yeah I’d like to see him start, be nice if Theo could lay a couple on for him, don’t think I’ve seen him have a chance to shoot yet.
it all depends on the so called manager picking him first i hope he does though :hail:
-

Don't hold your breath him ever having a shot mate while Allardyce is in charge. He doesn't believe in scoring goals.
-
G U N M A N
-
He's boss.
-
He's boss.
He's got a good touch for a big lad
-
Love him, golden boot next season
-
Turkish James Beattie
-
Lukak-who?
-
He's boss.
Yeah I like him.
Gets involved in the game, seems to have a good appreciation of general play etc.
It’s hard physically when you come from a top team in a lower league.
You come from somewhere that’s less physically demanding anyway and where your team has generally had most of the ball, to a league where because teams generally just play the ball back up the pitch if there’s any sort of pressure, there’s always something going on which means lots more running where there’s not much benefit at the end of it.
Anyway...
Love a shot in off the underside of the bar.
-
Wants the ball all the time, not scared to have a go, he'll do for me
-
He deserved that goal today, ran his fucking arse off
-
Did ok today.
Better manager and a proper pre season under his belt reckon he will be class next season.
-

Most prem ready striker at the club by a mile.
One of his strengths in turkey was his physicality so it’s going to be hard adjusting to defenders who can compete better - showed some great hold up today though.
And of course give him a view at goal and he’s bagged which is a great sign.
-
Got a decent touch and close control. His two goals were composed finishes. Needs a more attack minded set up to get the best out of him I reckon, so that's weapon head out of the picture..... Hopefully
-
Not having him at all
Touch of the Jelavics about him
I'm a moody cunt though when it comes to strikers
Encouraging to see him being praised by lids who go the game though, im not seeing the same sat at home on me arse
-
Think he's gonna be quality given a good run of games ...good strike .
Liked his back to goal play strong and gives the defence a worry ...chased a few lost causes too .
-
Koeman could have done with him
-
Jury's still out. Really nice finish, but other than that didn't offer much.
Regardless, 2 in 2 might spark some form.
-
He can finish
-
What I liked was he's very composed on the ball. Plays a good short pass something none of out strikers really have done since Saha. He's got no pace at all but he's powerful and strong for his size. He will be dangerous if we can push players alongside him like Baines, Walcott and Coleman did at times todauy
-
His pace is an issue in my opinion but obviously just have to wait and see how things go.
-

Lukaku often did bugger all but score........

You hit the nail on the head and you are right, the tv cameras do not show you his running off the ball, he is better than the coverage suggests.
-
Koeman could have done with him
And probably could have got him if he'd been arsed trying.
-
Literally ran his arse off all game, went and made things happen, got himself involved, gylfi enjoyed having him as an option too. Baines was a massive difference, and I like that Bong for them, yes he was unlucky with the OG but decent little battle with seamus.
Walcott is a different class and I hope his injury isn't to serious
-
Lukaku often did bugger all but score........
True, but I'd be blown away if he contributes anywhere near Lukaku's level and I'm sure you would agree.
He doesn't seem to have much pace and I'm not sure he has the strength to push defenders aside.... but I'm with you, goals are what he'll be judged on.
-
He’ll get sharper too. Hasn’t played a full game of football for over two months and he needs to get to know the league and his team-mates better.
He’s a decent grafter who’ll be a steady option to play off and around. Helps he knows where the goal is too.
-

Breaking news.... £27m striker not as good as £75m striker.... shock horror
-
I reckon he'll turn out to be better than Lukaku. That's my guess.
-
Lukaku often did bugger all but score........
Not true. His pace alone would have defenders sitting deep, thus midfield has to sit a little deeper. Changed the whole outlook of our side for opposing teams when he left, hence the deficit we see now.
-
I reckon he'll turn out to be better than Lukaku. That's my guess.
[/quote
No chance. Lukaku is 2 years younger and light years ahead.
-
Reminds me of The Stracq, but can finish.
-
And probably could have got him if he'd been arsed trying.
He was clearly at the bottom of our very long list of potential replacements for Lukaku.
Was that really Koemans fault?
-
He doesn't seem to have much pace and I'm not sure he has the strength to push defenders aside....
I know Delefeou isn’t a defender but the Way Tosun knocked him of the Ball injuring him in the same process shows he has plenty of strength Not in the Lukaku mould perhaps. But still plenty of strenght. I like what I see.
-
Breaking news.... £27m striker not as good as £75m striker.... shock horror
i think he will be better than what Lukaku has been for us, we just need to change from having a striker 40 yards away from the rest of the players.. as Tosun can't do that role.
-

No chance
And that's not a dig at tosun.... I like him
-
No need for pace if you know how to find space .
-
Unless I'm missing something Lukaku was the best striker I can remember at Everton since Lineker, it'll be a damn good player and an amazing slice of luck for us to get anyone near this quality. Just appreciate tosun for what he is, but he's not anywhere near the same league as lukaku at this moment in time and I doubt he ever will be but that doesn't mean he's bad.
-
No need for pace if you know how to find space .
Teddy Sherringham would agree completely ...my gran was quicker but she wasn't really a striker. ..more of a centre mid.
Tosun has plenty of other attributes and lukaku was our only out ball 9 times out of ten and all attacks under Koeman and Martinez went through him so his stats were flattering in reality and his goal record this year won't get close imho.
-
He was clearly at the bottom of our very long list of potential replacements for Lukaku.
Was that really Koemans fault?
Well he's the one that paid with his job so maybe he should have been more insistent.
-

For me, no way Lukaku was as good as Kevin Campbell before the bad injury he got. Campbells finishing was just as good, he was just as strong, and his touch, understanding of the game, movement off the ball and ability to bring others into play was much better than Roms. His attitude was also much better, which is important - I think Roms attitude was slightly poisonous to team spirit at times.
Kev wasn't quite the same after he came back from that injury, and the fact that he played for us for a good few years after that has clouded peoples memory of how good he was.
-
Some mad shouts on here, he's had 2 decent games in a row.
-
Wait
Kevin Campbell better than lukaku?
Really?
Tosun is gonna be a solid player for us, he's better than what we had
-

Totally agree with that. However what Campbell did when we signed him on loan was nothing short of miraculous. He has to be up there with our greatest centre forwards for that alone. Saved us that season, saved my sanity as well.
-
Some mad shouts on here, he's had 2 decent games in a row.
That;s all I am trying to say as well. Much too early to tell if he's going to be our guy leading the line for the next 3 years...
-
Haha. Someone said Kevin Campbell is better than Romelu Lukaku.
That's got to be one of the maddest shouts on here for a while. Comparable with thinking Scott Brown was the answer to our problems.

He's 3 goals away from his tally from last season. I'm going to predict he'll do more than "come close".
Your constant disingenuous view of Lukaku borders on bitterness.
-

If you think Rom is slightly better then fair enough, if you think its mad then you are very confused.
-
Loved Kevin Campbell cracking striker for us, but no way on God's earth was he better than Lukaku, lovely fella Kev, but not as good as Lukaku.
-
Embarrassing this.
-
Embarrassing this.
Don’t understand why people make some
of the shouts you see in this thread. Tosun > Lukaku / Campbell > Lukaku.
It is possible to like a player without launching into hyperbole.
-
I don't see anything special about Tosun but then again nor should we expect to yet. He hasn't played a full game of football for over two months, he's been called out by his manager in that time, he's in a different country, different language, different team-mates and into a club which is all over the place.
We'll get a better view if he plays every week from here on in but more likely after a full pre season we'll get a better idea of what he can offer in August. Still, if he continues to hit the back of the net most weeks it won't do his confidence any harm whatsoever.
-
Thought he was very good, most complete striker performances we’ve seen all year imo.
Won challenges, hounded down defenders, linked up really well at times (the Baines one-two was excellent), and took his goal really well.
Yeah he doesn’t look like a Jamie vardy pace machine or incredible technique-wise, but he played well imo.
-
He's the best Turkish player we've ever had

Some mad shouts going on in here.
Anyway, just rewatched the goal again. He was heavily in involved in the build up to his goal which is really encouraging.
He came deep to pick up the ball, lay off to Baines, made a run to edge of the 18 yard box where Baines played it into him again. He played it back to Baines with a quick, accurate one touch pass. Baines did what Baines does best and picked him out nicely on the edge of the boss where Cenk finished the job with aplomb.
He looks like an intelligent player who is very economical with the ball. It remains to be seen how good he can be but if he can help us play our football with a bit more intelligence I have a feeling that will be very good news for us.
-
Koeman would probably have bought him in January
Someone said that Ron could have signed him at the start of the season if he had been arsed
If he wasn't arsed it was because he thought getting Giroud was in the bag
But Telescopic Tosun was probably in his sights
-

There's a weird mentality that's developed on here over the last few months. Certain posters don't back up their points, but rather hide behind "that's my opinion, you can have yours". Great, that's true of anything in life, it doesn't mean opinions aren't wrong, and can't be called out.
Back to the original point, Lukaku will score more goals for Utd this season than he did for Everton last.
-
Yeah he looks like he could be really decent for us, good all round game, strong link up play and lay offs, maybe lacking a yard or two and of pace, but he looks like he can finish and seems to have a never say die attitude. Like to see another really good pacy winger come in to play off him with Walcott on the other side of a three, although maybe Lookman could do that if he improves.
-
Back to the original point, Lukaku will score more goals for Utd this season than he did for Everton last.
He's well short in league goals, and if you're counting every competition he's already played more games and still not scored as many yet.
He was always going to score at a lesser rate though, we built our entire attack around giving the ball to him and hope for him to do something.
He'd still be our best player by a mile if we still had him regardless.
-

Not questioning any of that, and don't disagree with it either. But, the point was made that he won't "get close" to last years tally, which he already is.
-
Not buying he should get less because the team isn’t built around him.
He’s playing in a much better side who are favourites in almost every game.
-

Don't think being in a team like that where most teams sit back against hoping to get a 0-0 draw is a positive change for him really, he's at his worst with his back to goal.
He's still going to be top scorer for a side probably finishing second, but he'll always be a much more effective player counter attacking rather than against teams playing deep.
-
Sounds like we have a good penalty taker in Tuson. 22 out of 24 he’s scored. Almost as good as Baines. Better than Rooney.
-

Rooney’s is only 70% and he’s on our penalties.
Tbf to him, he’s netted the two most important at Anfield and in the last minute at Brighton.
-

Playing Devil’s advocate here, but I imagine he was referring to last season’s league tally which he is well down on. He was in with a shout of winning the Golden Boot last season, this year he’ll be lucky to make Top 6.
The lad will likely play 15 more games this year, I’d be worried if he didn’t score more in total than he did for us. Would still have him here though mind.

He is a fair bit off in the league, admittedly. Last season was his stand out for us, I'd argue that he'll get as many as his second best season for us (18), and won't be that far off last season's tally come the end of the season.
He get's a hell of a lot of criticism, when I think he's probably due to be cut some slack... it's a hell of a step up for him (mentally more than anything), and has had to adapt to a new playing style, all at the age of 24 still (which people forget).
Oh, and "lucky to make top 6"... he's 1 goal behind Sterling in 4th.
-
Firmino is 1 goal behind him in 7th, Son only 2 goals behind in 8th. With Kane's ankle not looking good, Son might be scoring a few more soon.
Everyone under Kane, Salah and Aguero are just as interchangeable as the relegation battle this season.
Also, maybe it is hard to convey over text and I’m not prominent enough on here for my bias to be known, but I’m part of the pro-Lukaku brigade.

Fact is Lukaku is in that position now, regardless of how others might be playing and circumstances surrounding them :)
-
Can we stop talking about the lad now please. He went last year.

That's good mate ,you like everyone else deserves their own opinion .
Although I don't agree ,I respect you right to your opinions.
-
He's a fucking predator I think he's great. He needs quick players in the box with him but he's a really sound addition
-
He’s a good finisher, perhaps not the right fit for every occasion but looks like one of the signings we’ve got right.
Hopefully he gets a good run until the end of the season.
We should be looking at another complimentary striker come the summer though.
-
Will get 15+ goals next season
-
He's brave and has a decent little habit of being on the edge of the 6yard box when needed, no wonder Besiktas fans loved him
-
I havnt been a fan but if he scores the winner in the Derby then I'm going all in for this lad
-
I didn't doubt he would score goals... I doubted we'd create the chances for him
-
He’s a striker. Might not have the physical attributes of a Lukaku but he knows where the goal is and where to get them.
-
His touch and link up play are really good. If we can become a good footballing side eventually, he'll be very tidy.
-
Looks like he will deffo score bagfuls for us.
The diving header was very Andy Gray-esque.
-
Feed the Cenk and he will score.
Basically he's put away every chance he's been given from what I recall.

He's boss
-
Quality finisher. ..got to ask where has been till now ..though ...a player of this quality would ve been better playing from first signing ...imho.
Good job we could afford to keep him on the bench for all those games .....
Oh wait .
-
the new andy gray going on that header on the floor lol
-
Deffo got Jelavic vibes, but frankly should have had a hatty today if DCL had set him.
Not amazing athletically. Incidentally I was impressed by DCL’s runs in behind, looks in very good shape, natural athlete with good technical ability.
If DCL could bag he’d actually be a well better player than Cenk imo, but Cenk looks to have a ruthless streak which is priceless.
-
A good old fashioned greedy goal-hanger!
-
I fucking love the big fella, to be honest with you. Had him in my fantasy team today and everything
So shove that up your pipe and smoke it
Be surprised if he bags less than 30 next season
-

Nice article.
Really pleased for him and hope this is the start to a very successful career at Everton.

happy with the goal and the win, but Butland was poor, it wasn't a good header at all. But if you don't buy a ticket...

I joked about the Jelavic thing but don’t really see it, Tosun looks a lot more physical.
If we’re conparing him to former strikers then I’d go for Yakubu.
-

He’s a brave lad. Strong and a natural finisher.

Brilliant signing. Got to give credit to the manager for that one.

Well done Sam for easing him well after a ropey start, eh.

I'm not saying he isn't, and he has a knack of being out the right place at the right time which is what it's about. I'm just saying if that was up our end you'd expect pickford you save it

No don’t see that tbh.
Jelavic was OK technically but not great, physically not quite enough for the prem long term st the level we wanted to get to.
Not seen a lot of Tosun so far of course and I have been impressed, like the look of him, but comes alive in the six yard box, looks a good instinctive finisher, but physically nothing to write home about but puts a shift in and doesn’t shy away.

I don't know, it is perfectly conceivable that idiotic "he doesn't do cold weather" remark aside, he really did need a couple of weeks getting up to speed.

There were a couple of in the knows saying at the he could clearly finish, but wasn't showing much else in training.
He's also said himself that he felt a bit sluggish because he hadn't played for a while because of the winter break.
The bashing Allardyce is getting for it is a little over the top really.

Bit of a poacher really. Not the modern game, apparently. But he scores goals, can't ask for more really.

As long as the second verse is the same as the first and the chorus is :- You fat cunt.

Just caught up on the highlights from yesterday’s game, so obviously now I’m an expert.
Definitely a difference having a striker that can take a chance, but two wins in two coinciding with Baines, Coleman and Jagielka in the side. We can’t go into another season without addressing these positions. A better back up for Coleman and a replacement for both Baines & Jags (but also keep Baines).
Needless to say this involves Walsh fucking off and Moshiri getting someone in who knows what he’s doing.
-
Bit of a poacher really. Not the modern game, apparently. But he scores goals, can't ask for more really.
Look at some of his goals for Besiktas . No way is the lad just a poacher . If we play him thinking that's all he is then his scoring will soon come to an end .
-
Promising start but there's been plenty of those throughout the leagues over the years.
-

One of his big features for besiktas was that he took a lot of shots, variety of angles, both feet as well.
Looking forward to seeing that side of his game; make half a yard and boot through it.

All that from the highlights !
-
I see Tosun has mentioned the work he does with Duncan Ferguson in training (as did Calvert-Lewin recently). Must be something to do with the way he puts those cones out...

Wherever the line is drawn, i'd expect most people would suggest peadophilia would be on the other side of it like.
-
Paedophilia is a good place to start drawing lines. Financial corruption, and the corruption of children, are poles apart. Don't want to teach anyone to suck eggs, but it's fairly obvious to me.

Are you fucking serious?

I’m not making comparisons to the crimes as they are a word apart , I wasn’t aware that GG committed such a vile act or I wouldn’t have suggested the song, apologies once again

Let’s hope so, we are due a wee bit of luck against this lot, need to stop the supply to their front two so our midfield will need to work their bollocks off and hold up play from Tosun and Walcott is will be most important. Not a game for Bolasie, I think it will be to physical for him rather see Vlasic mixing it with them in the middle.
-
Nah no point dropping Bolasie, he’s stuck two right in the mixer for us back to back weeks, and has given Liverpool torrid times in the past.
I’d play Cenk and DCL and tell the wingers to whip crosses to the back stick. Take van dijk out of it with the flight of the ball and capitalise on Gomes/TAA being less capable than him.
-
Love Vlasic to be given a chance, even off the bench, you know just to let's us know he's still alive.
-
How about when he scores...(in the tune of Kings of Leon )
Yeahhh ooohhh!
Our Cenk is on Fire
Ok i'll get my coat.

While playing with some fools
We needed a sttiker
You got us Cenk Tosun

To the tune of Renegade Master.
Its Cenk once again hes the mega goal blaster,
defence damager,
power through the back line

Repeat until fade.
Hopefully Cenk accompanies this song with a nice jivey dance to go with it when he scores.

Yeah, to a set of fans that have historically only really mastered the nuances of “Everton, Everton, Ever-too-oon” it would be unlikely

Get the sense watching him play that he's gonna be one of those strikers that scores a good number of goals, but doesn't contribute much else to the team.
-
Like the look of him but back DCL to be starting over him inside 12 months.
I also think he’ll have competition in the form of a new signing next year.
-

Which, when not many others contribute much either, isn’t really what’s required. Or expected for £27m.

Unsure what DCL has done to justify this sort of claim. He looks nowhere near ready to play in the PL to me and it would take a huge leap forward in 12 months for him to be good enough for us. He's got potential but can't think of any Premier League club where he would start as a first-choice. Tammy Abraham is just as good and isn't good enough to be a regular starter for Swansea. Loan to the Championship next season would be ideal I think.

I agree. The lad is neat and tidy but I don't see anything that makes me think he can hold his own at this level. Maybe he'll develop a killer instinct playing every week against a lower standard of opposition but for the time being I don't see much call for him being here next season if we do buy another genuine first team forward.
-
DCL is a level above the Championship imo.
I'd only loan him to a Premier league team myself, failing that keep him here because he's developing at a really good rate.

Not sure where the idea he ISNT good enough comes from. Involved in as many goals as anyone in our side this year.
Only things I haven’t seen him do is a) take lots of shots b) strike a ball cleanly through and c) score score score
I know that seems really obviously important for a striker, but backing him to start producing.
From what I’ve seen in open play Tosun offers about the same but looks less mobile. He does shoot more and is more predatory but I’m personally saying given another 12 months DCL can potentially be better.
-

Fair play to the lad. I've got nothing against him but Tosun now level on Premier League goals in 20 less games. My original point is that he's nowhere near good enough to get us to where we want to go and that's the case with a lot of the squad. I think the stats in this case just serve to highlight how poor the season has been overall, with a lack of both individual and team success.
We've had to rely on him as we didn't have anyone else after last summer's fiasco and he's worked hard and chipped in with a few goals, but I don't see him going on to loan and being any PL side's first choice next season. Loan him to a Championship club and let him get a full season under his belt starting games and then reassess.
-

DCL can't score consistently. Besides heading the ball, his holdup play is also sub-par. Can't really back defenders down. If these two issues remain, there is no way he will be starting over Tosun.
-
All of Tosun's goals came with DCL on the pitch.
-

Pickford too. How is this related? Apart from the fact DCL should have scored before Tosun actually did at Stoke?
-
If DCL learns how to get himself into goalscoring positions and find the back of the net, we’ll have a real talent on our hands.

The big Turk one of 6 nominated for Premier League Player of the month- well in big man

On Sam Allardyce....
I get on really well with Big Sam. He’s been in contact with me for a long time and wanted me when he was at Crystal Palace. He made it clear there would be a place for me at Everton. Sam played an important role in the transfer [to Everton]. He was always open with me, he doesn’t mince his words. He says what’s on his mind.
On Big Dunc....
We have a legendary player here called Duncan Ferguson and he has been a huge help behind the scenes. He stayed behind with me after training to work on my game and my fitness, getting me up to speed with the Premier League. He always believed in me. When I wasn’t playing he helped me keep my head up. He’s been fantastic, we work really closely together, I think I remind him of himself a bit.
On Liverpool culture....
I’ve tried the Scouse dish. I like trying traditional foods but I have to say the English [language] here took me by surprise, it isn’t what I was taught in lessons. I’m not going to lie I didn’t understand anything when I first arrived. It is not the English taught in the classrooms. I remember my first training session, there are a few players in the youth team that have a really strong Scouse accent and I didn’t have a clue what they were saying. I thought maybe I had not learned English properly but I could understand some of the others so figured out it must be a regional thing.
On Evertonians....
They pronounce my name really well to be honest, they call me Cenk but I have heard some of the fans call me Tosun Pasha [meaning King Tosun or General Tosun which I was chuffed about. Knowing they actually researched and spoke with Besiktas fans to learn this left me gobsmacked.
On tomorrow’s derby....
This is a huge derby, I know what it means to the club and the fans. I always watched the previous Merseyside derbies. I am preparing myself. I’m taking it very seriously. This is serious, it’s more than just a game. I know that and all that is important is the win. We want to give the fans something to cheer about. In a city with more than one big club these games mean everything

So we have to teach him how to become a striker!!? :)
-
DCL shouldn't be anywhere near the starting eleven to be honest, we should be looking for much more.
-

Yes
DCL shouldn't be anywhere near the starting eleven to be honest, we should be looking for much more.
3rd choice next year would be sound, as long as we have Tosun and another who is top 10 standard (if Tosun is).
-
I think we can all stop the Jelavic comparisons.
He's clearly got a lot more to his game.
He was feeding off scraps at the weekend and making something out of nothing.
Got a superb touch and appreciation of the players around him. Showed some great awareness to try and lay that header on to Coleman.

Not as convinced, like the look of him but need to see more prem minutes.
-
I'd like to see any striker we bring in to challenge DCL and Tosun have some proper pace so we can rediscover the ability to play on the counter attack again. Fed up of seeing painfully slow build up and balls played in to feet all the time.

I think we will see the best of him with a quick partner up front. In the first half on Saturday there was a beautiful little flick on by Cenk into Rooney's path but he wasn't quick enough to get on to it.

Thought he worked really hard on Saturday and he does have a nice understanding of the game. Pre-season and better manager will help him and the team immensely.

This... is about as underwhelming a transfer story as I can think of.
