Be nice to sign a left back and get rid of as much of the dead wood as possible

Oxlade Chamberlain has looked a very decent player since leaving arsenal and kind of was similar to Walcott in that he was in and out at times under Wenger, hopefully the experience is similar for Walcott

There'll probably be a take on Duran Duran's Rio, where the name is changed to Theo, can't wait for that.

Yeah that's what he's saying. Definitely.

It's a logical conclusion of the argument his article is too lazy to even coherently make. What is he saying exactly?

If you actually read the article, it's total and utter garbage. The headline says the signing "spells trouble" for the Lookman and Vlasic, the tagline then says it's "bad news" for them. Uh Oh! But the article then doesn't even mention them in its entire first half.

When it finally does mention them, it's in passing and quickly moves on to criticise SA about playing both Rooney and Siggurdson, undermining his presumed argument that the transfer of Walcott is bad news (because even if the signing wasn't made, SA still wouldn't play the kids).

When the article eventually, in it's final 3 paragraphs, gets round to discussing its supposed topic, all it does is line up SA's defence of why you don't want to play kids week in week out. Which I don't completely agree with, but at least there's some thought gone into a side of a debate.

So basically the article, aside from a somewhat sensationalist headline and tagline, makes absolutely zero attempt to substantiate what it's meant to be about. Pretty shocking journalism all round in my opinion, although perhaps that's what you get when you just get fans writing articles instead of the meedja.

Looking forward to seeing him play, will hopefully bring a bit of balance to the side.

Don't buy that this is bad news for Vlasic or Lookman, they have a lot of development needed, and we'll be in need of options when the inevitable downturn in form happens (look at Davies this year).

Just watched a ten minute highlight video of his Goals.

Some great finishes in there. He seems
to be superb one on one, can lift it, smash if, roll it, dink it or place it, and seems to hit corners more often than not. Sure itís over 10 years worth of togger and heís had ozil etc. Behind him for much of it but heís definitely got goals in his locker.

Think Iíve talked myself around.

I agree, Mirralas hot loaned out and Lennon's contract is up at the end of the season.  The young lads won't get more or less chances that they were already getting.

I know Arsenal give us a bloody good hiding more often than not, but I always used to worry when Walcott was playing, has always struck me as a very competent player and a grounded young man to boot. Very cool in front of goal.

Rather have him on our side than against us.

I’ve been thinking about Mirallas legacy with Everton which you have to say is chequered.

However even Mirallas had the redeeming feature of his goalscoring, and even at the end of his career here after 3 years of some of the shittest, most annoying, disruptive let down performances - you’d still get people saying - Mirallas RW.

It’s understandable, He’s probably been our best goalscoring midfielder since Cahill? In his first 4 years he got 9, 8, 11 and 6 - way better than most others. Fellaini was good for goals but his best year still only beat kevs best by 1 I think.

Walcott scores more goals than Kevin Mirallas, absolutely 100% guaranteed, and I think he could potentially surprise a few here.

Ooh shot saved! Is that a new category as goals are non existent?

At Everton we don't do goals and assists, just assists and shots saved.

I like him, he was trying to communicate with the others, which I liked to see. He was pointing where he wanted people, which was kinda odd at first but I'll take any organisation up front we can get right now. Must be verrrry different to how things were for him at Arsenal, but hopefully he's just happy to be playing again.

I think Tosun looks like he could form a partnership with someone, I really would like to see us try two up top as with the direct style of play we need players up there not a million miles away from each other.

On the negative side, I just don't know about Bolasie. It's hard with the layoff, but still he's super ineffective right now.

Think he got through the first appearances with adrenaline, which is normal, but now thatís worn off he looks miles away both in fitness and technique.

There was a bit near the end when he was one v one with Dawson and he took ages to play a cross in, when it was made for taking him on. But it looked like his legs were too heavy.

He wonít gain sharpness without playing of course, but youíve got to be effective in some way in the mean time.

He still seems to have the mindset that he has to do a trick and entertain, but he hasnít the fitness or match sharpness to find an end product at the end of it so heís just slowing everything down.

Heíd do well to get an instruction from his boss to speed things up for the good of the team dynamic, until such a time he feels ready to deliver individually.

Complete opposite of Bolasie isn't he. A winger who wants to get in and around the box to try and get on the scoresheet, or at the very least affect play in a dangerous area. He's already beat Bolasie's goal record for us and will probably surpass him on assists in the next few games too. Time for the big man to up his game when he regains match fitness.

The quality just stands out a mile. He's got touch, intelligence and still got pace. He works hard and plays with real intensity.

You dont remain as an attacker for Arsenal for years without being a top, top player.

Agreed. I was hopeful we'd have signed him last summer when we were linked, and then people were down on the idea and I kind of wasn't bothered after all.

But he definitely is a cut above, probably our most important player after Pickford. He might become my favorite player since Pienaar.

Heís technically good but Arsenal fans wouldnít agree. It clearly massively helps playing in a team where across 90 minutes itís fairly rare to see a player thinking quick or playing a clever pass, rather that it being the minimum expectation for getting on the pitch.

Not sure if Iím phrasing that very well, but basically we should sign more players who have honed their trade at Arsenal.

When you see Walcott running with the ball at pace you realise how slow most of our players are. He's also ahead with his intelligence on and off the ball too. Good buy all round. I'd like to see Tosun get some of his service because you'd think we still haven't signed a striker yet, such is his absence.

I think in this setup he's got a far better chance of success. You'd like to see him get a go alternating in the Davies role with the brains of Rooney behind him and the speed of Walcott and guile of Sig next to him. He'll also have a willing runner all day long in Niasse.

Clearly I'm basing that off more faith than evidence but I can't believe he was as bad as he first showed for us and even then admittedly he has shown glimpses of one touch class a few times.

In Walcott, sigurdson and gana we've got the basis of a top 6 midfield there.

It's now about getting a DM and number 10 to play alongside them for next season.

It's incredible what a change of environment does for a player. I haven't see Walcott go past players like that for a good few years. Think at Arsenal he just went through the motions a lot of the time of playing two touch football.

Here he seems to realise he needs to take the game to the opposition more and he's thriving on that.

Also worth noting Kenny had his best display offensively yesterday and that was all down to how Walcott made space for him.

Getting a creative number 10 should be a priority IMO.

You said the correct, most magic word, creative!!!!

Reinforces how far off the top 6 we are when the likes of Walcott are not considered good enough.

Walcott is good enough. Sig is good enough. Pickford is good enough. Gana is good enough. Coleman is good enough. Rooney is just about good enough. Bolasie could be good enough. Davies might be. Holgate might be.

We really not that far off

Only a manager and a striker then?

Oh right, we bought a striker.

Pickford
Other

Coleman  Keane    Other   Baines
Kenny     Holgate   Other   Other

Davies    Gana    Rooney
Other      Other   Other

Walcott     Tosun     Sigurdsson
Other       Niasse    Bolasie

Promising Youth:
DCL
Lookman
Onyekuru
Dowell

Think Iíve been a bit positive here as well to be honest, and even then compared to the top 6 we look about £300m off not  taking into account the inevitable inflation of next summer.

In terms of getting 7th next year, I think 4 signings of young, athletic Europa level quality in CB/LB/CM/ST would make the world of difference.

Biggest priorities are :

1. A back up for Rooney who can do what rooney does. At the moment we canít play when heís not on the pitch and he wonít be here for long.

2. LB

3. A quality, mobile CB. Bonus points if they can ball a bit. Triple bonus points if they can organise a piss up in a brewery. Quadruple bonus points if they are entirely free of brain farts.

4. A striker, pace would be great, pace and goals would be even better.

I don't know a lot about Klaassen, but I've always had him pegged as being fairly similar to Davies.

From the little I've seen of Klaassen, they're both players who don't touch the ball an awful lot for midfielders, but have decent movement, support attacks and try to help out defensively.

I'd love to see what he was like in our most recent midfield 3 next to Gueye and Rooney at some point.

Otherwise, I think you've got the priorities spot on. Though I'd be buying a replacement for Rooney, rather than a back up.

Yes would save us a lot of money if Klaassen could suddenly turn out ok, box to box with a high work rate and typically picked up a lot of goals in Holland (15-20 per year).

However, he hasnít been part of a squad for 9 weeks and hasnít played for the u23s in that time. Iíve no idea what he does besides like peopleís Instagram posts.

Sigurdson plays well off the left.
