Title: The final stretch
Post by: American Evertonian on February 01, 2018, 10:57:35 PM
Of our final matches remaining of the season (13), 9 of them are against clubs below us in the table (Arsenal, Burnley, Liverpool, and Manchester City are the exceptions). Not a terribly difficult finish to the season considering how poorly the start of the campaign started.

7th is a possibility if we take care of the teams we are supposed to. Regardless - we have a great opportunity to build some confidence going into the offseason and hopefully a strong finish will help with summer recruitment.

Need to improve away from home.

Confidence is still very brittle as we saw both at the start and the end of the game yesterday.

The signs with Walcott and Seamus back are very encouraging. It was good to see Walcott linking with Sigurdsson as well. Both technical players and with that bit of x factor.

If Mangala or whatever his name is can shore up the defence, then we can try and finish strongly. We need to be looking to the future and need to find a good Rooney replacement which won't be easy. Or a midfielder with a bit more about him who actually passes to our players more often than not.

I honestly reckon we will get europa. And unfortunately it will keep Allardyce in a job

Tell you what I bloody liked, Seamus Coleman storming at players and having them off, or dropping balls into dangerous channels for Walcott or Niasse. Lacked that from both full backs all year unfortunately and it makes a massive difference.

Imho. ..talk of Europe is nonsense we've had one decent game in ten ,we would have to improve immensely to even wiff the top eight ...just can't see it .

But by all means would love to be proved wrong about it and Sam too .

Although I doubt it .

7th should be out the question given our season. However, reality is we are somehow two teams and 4pts from getting into that position. Burnley's form has not been particularly great and Mahrez just got messed around by a high profile move again.

Whether 7th means Europe is another question, frankly I'd rather it didn't given our last time out and I don't think we have the squad for multiple fronts yet. Maybe that changes in the summer though.

Exactly this ...

We don't need Europe till we have an idea of the difference between arses and elbows .

We're in a catch 22. The only way to give this season focus is to go for Europa League qualification which piles up problems for next season. However, without a target, what's left of this season will just drift.

We'll finish with 13-15 more points in my opinion.

Coleman makes a difference, but we can't assume our right back is gonna change this team in all 13 games left. We're still unbalanced, still fragile, and we still are capable of going long stretches without shots on target.

Said it before and will say it again

Whats the point in not playing for europa league? So we can have a strong season next year and qualify for . . . . . . . . . . . . . . europa league

Yes I see what your getting at ,but we can barely play league games at the minute ,a year out of the Europa will do is the world of good at the minute imho it may help with recruitment .....but let's face it ...it was nothing but a hinderance this year. no ?.

We will finish 7th easy. Which is why Allardyce was a very silly appointment. that will be our ceiling under him.

It's probably our ceiling under everyone.

Thats typical of our club. You will find it under realism but whats the point if we have that attitude. We have to strive to be better and get into those top  places and become a club that can challenge at the top of the table.

If we finish 7th we should hope it gets EL.

But if it doesnít then we try to turn that negative into a positive.

Of course but he took over when we were a mess and now people are saying if we get 7th under him then that shows we shouldn't have appointed him. I just don't see the logic in that

We strive for better but we also need to be realistic too. Regardless of our manager under current budgets we'd need a lot of luck in the transfer market to make much progress upwards.

Sacking someone because they can't perform a miracle will see us have a lot of managers

Would love a europa final me. The club need to be playing European competiton if we are ever going to be able to have the affffffffrontery to regard ourselves as a big club in any sense of the word.

Donít think weíll get that though, not sure 7th is within grasp tbh, especially as the other night was our best performance in months and they still hit the woodwork three times and had one cleared off the line!

Loving the optimist in you ..."Final" but we lost an easy group in all reality and there are well better teams in the last eight of the comp every year .....to right it's what we should be aiming and striving for every year ,but in reality we are miles away as we witnessed this year on countless nights .

Three points though. I'll take a few more nervy wins until the end of the season if it means we're in Europe next year, plus overhauling Burnley and Leicester should hardly be seen as some kind on unattainable feat.

First off I'd like to see us go to the Emirates and at least have a plan though, instead of boot the ball as far away from our goal and hope for the best.

If we could take a point at the
Emirates then beat Palace, Watford, Burnley, Brighton and Stoke Iíd be confident of finishing 7th and with our squad thatís what we should be looking to do.

Arsenal will probably be another loss, but it would be nice to see the team at least try and make up for the disaster earlier in the season.

Wish Silva was still at Watford, I'd feel more confifent about getting a result there, but none of those teams should put fear into us. Should being the operative word there. Burnley hopefully on the decline by the time we play them.

7th should be our aim point and it would be amazing to get that given how our season has gone. Ultimately, I think more likely we'll finish 8th or 9th.

People saying that our squad won't handle Europa footy do realise we get to buy players again the summer?

Hopefully good ones this time round but there's no reason we can't prepare properly for it.

The only plus is ...we can't really do worse than this year either in Europa or the transfer market .
