Title: Caraboa Cup 2018
Post by: Alanvideo on August 14, 2018, 11:38:17 PM
Who do we fancy to start our cup run ? It can't be a top 7 team and is regionalised . I fancy Morecambe or Fleetwood away.
Game to be played 27th to 29th August i think.
<< The Carabao Cup Round Two draw will take place live on Sky Sports from the Stadium of Light on Thursday 16 August, ahead of Sunderlandís Round One clash against Sheffield Wednesday.

Pundits Mick McCarthy and Chris Waddle will conduct the draw live on the programme from 7pm with presenter David Prutton overseeing proceedings. The draw will also be covered across the EFLís digital and social channels.

The Round Two draw sees the inclusion of the 13 Premier League clubs who are not competing in European competitions, alongside Sky Bet Championship sides Stoke City and Swansea City. The draw is unseeded but will be regionalised into North and South sections. The remaining seven Premier League clubs will enter the competition in Round Three. >>

Ball numbers will be made available on Wednesday 15 August.

I'm hoping Exeter City beat Ipswich tonight (I'm going) and then we draw Exeter away so I can go and watch us at my local ground, only 5 minutes walk from my place.

Still, as with every season, I hope we take both cups seriously, lets bloody win something.

Oldham Athletic at Boundary Park, im from Oldham and that was my first ever live Everton fixture. Also they're a bit of a shambles, need the money and 90's Latics legend Frankie Bunn is in charge now...plus they've renamed the North Stand the Joe Royle stand.

Same here. Everton went through a period of drawing Oldham in the cups for a few years in the mid 80ís so I went along to them as it was at the top of the road.

Failing that, home to a League 2 team. Let's get as far as possible.

We could probably field a second team and still have the quality to win this comfortably.

These are just two XIs that I have made up:

First XI

Pickford
Coleman   Zouma   Mina   Digne
Schneiderlein   Gueye   Gomes
Richarlison   Tosun   Walcott

Second XI
      Stekelenberg
Holgate      Keane   Jags   Baines
Davies      Besic/McCarthy      Dowell
Bernard      Niasse/DCL   Sigurdsson

Best strength in depth we have ever had.

EDIT - I even forgot Lookman from here....

To be honest, i think this is the game we should be introducing Digne, Mina, Zouma, Bernard (and Gomes if he is fit).

It's only 10 days away. We can cope with Saints & Bournemouth without them. (and it is a quick turnaround from the long Bournemouth journey on the Sat to the cup game on the tuesday).

I'd go with:
Pickford
Coleman   Mina   Zouma   Digne
Gana
             Davies        Gomes/Schneiderlin
      Bernard                Sigurdsson/Lookman
DCL

.............is there any point to the Auto-cup scheme ? I seem to remember ST's get a short window to buy their own seat anyway. And ,if not ,there will be other seats available.
In previous seasons if you bought a home cup game you get an away credit too.

We should be trying to win a cup so I wouldnít like to see the team too experimental.

Maybe play Digne. Start one of either Mina or Zouma. Have Bernard on the Bench. I think Gomes is still injured anyway.

Pickford

Coleman Holgate Mina Digne

Davies Gana

Walcott Sigurdson Richarlison

Tosun

Gives a few a rest but keeps some consistency.

They let season ticket holders secure their seats up until a certain date then release them for general sale if they don't take them up. So initially it looks like there's a big crowd but once the unsold season ticket seats are put up for sale there will be a far better choice. Got caught out with that ourselves once and ended up in fairly shite seats where as if we'd waited we could have got far better ones.

I just tend to move.

After the game's kicked off you can usually identify better, empty seats.

Only in cups, friendlies etc. which is what I can normally get to.

Bournemouth fans saying Smith is banned for their Carabao game ,but he's only getting one game anyway as he was sent off for denying a goal scoring opportunity not violent play

Where do the echo mention this, Jags misses the cup game last of his 3 games.  Rules changed in cup games , that would not affect league games.

Yeah, the Echo edited their article to correct it.

It originally said this: Ď19 hours ago ∑ Silva warns Richarlison. Under new rules brought in this season, the ban will not apply to the League Cupí

But an hour later they corrected it to state that he will miss Rotherham, which is preferable.

Suspensions

This season, any cautions players receive will be specific to the competition they were playing in at the time. So, a yellow card in a Cup game, for instance, wouldn't count towards a suspension in the Premier League.

However, red cards will apply across all competitions

Where he will bag a hat-trick in a 4-1 away win, launching us on a 25 game unbeaten run in the league, leaving us comfortably in the Top 3, and challenging City for top spot.

Hopefully not and heíll play Pickford from now on but playing ge back up keeper in the league cup is a fairly wide spread thing to do these days it seems.

from the Telegraph this afternoon......

Liverpool and Everton are waiting to hear when they will host their all-Premier League Carabao Cup ties as the competition has created a scheduling nightmare.

Both Merseyside clubs were given home draws in the third round, but policing and transport issues make it impossible for them to play on the same evening.

Usually, one club plays on Tuesday night, the other on Wednesday.

While Liverpool are willing to play their tie against Chelsea on either September 25 or 26, the situation is complicated for their visiting opponents, who have a televised fixture against West Ham the previous Sunday. Chelsea want the match played on Wednesday.

Everton are also in action on Sunday, September 23, against Arsenal, in a fixture screened by Sky Sports. Everton were drawn to play against Southampton at Goodison Park in the Carabao Cup.
Liverpool will play Chelsea in their third round Carabao Cup tie but the timing is also uncertain
Again, their preference is for a Wednesday night match in order to avoid playing twice in three days.

Delaying the Liverpool versus Chelsea tie by a week is not an option as both teams are competing in Europe. The Football League is aware of the congestion issue with the fixtures.

Talks have been ongoing to resolve the situation, Everton and Chelsea most affected by the outcome.

So...Tuesday it is for us?

It shouldn't really be a question, as our game on the Sunday is the late one so we should play the later cup fixture.

Too many people obsessing about squads and rotation. It's only September and they've also had a fortnight international break since August too, there's no need to change for freshness or anything like that.

We've only won two games so far this season, let's try and build a bit of momentum and try and win a trophy. We're not getting relegated and we're not finishing in the top 6 either so no need to throw games which give us a chance of silverware.

Play the very best team we have. We need results and to build up some form, and as many others have said, we aren't getting relegated or top 6, so cups are our best opportunity this season.

Iíd also play the strongest team available but with a couple of the new guys given a start - Mina in for Zouma. Keane has undoubtedly been our best defender this year and was good again against arsenal. Also that header he went for at the end shows a little fractured skull isnít going to stop him putting his body on the line! Lots of respect for him after yesterday.

Bernard in for either Walcott/Sigurdsson or DCL depending is Silva would rather have Richarlison left wing or up front.

100% needs to play Pickford. Been a bit of a let down since his England heroics and not earned the right to be rested for what could be a massive game for our season.

Yeah it'd be a sickener if we went out here.

Can't imagine they'll have much interest in it so hopefully they field a second string and we put out a strong side.

When I said Feeney, Baningime and Hornby, I didn't mean just those three, I meant another eight with them (just for clarity!)

Something like this:

1)Stek

2)Kenny
4)Keane
5)Feeney
3)Baines

6)Baningime
10)Sigurdsson
7)Davies

8)Bernard
9)Hornby
11)Richarlison

Subs: Pickford; Holgate; Mina; Schneiderlin; Lookman; Walcott; Tosun

Subject to injury, as well, of course (I wouldn't expect any limping wounded to play - just for clarity!)

Too much of a risk that for me., especially with our record in this

----------Pickford
Kenny Holgate Keane Baines
--------Beni Davies
---------Sigurdsson
Lookman Richarlison Bernard

We can still rotate whilst putting a strong team out.

Good chance to get lookman, dowell and Baines some minutes, start Bernard and hopefully Mina.

Itís not like we have a strongest 11 anyway. Thereís still quite a few positions up for grabs.

Chelsea v Liverpool
Arsenal v Brentford
Tottenham v Watford
Man City already through.

Hard to see there not being four in the draw for the next round.

We couldn't play it this week as us and Chelsea both played on Sunday. We both then couldn't play on Weds so the sensible thing to do was move our game to next week

Leicester away won't be easy though. Last time I went there they walked right through us.
