No worries mate and the funny thing is, just before I saw you post, I was thinking the exact same thing.

Hope we win it this time, as we have never won the League cup and this year would be a good time to start.

It certainly would and just looking at that side of the draw there’s not much for us to fear there.

Went from a loan parade at us to the Norwegian league, to the Danish second tier, and is now apparently at a mid-table Israeli club.

On topic, any side from League 1/2, please. Preferably at Goodison.

If we don’t believe that we can go away to Lincoln and win how can we possibly believe that we should be going to the top 6 in the prem and getting a win there. Our mentality is still holding us back even against league one opposition.

I don’t believe we can go to the top 6 in the prem this season. And we aren’t. Seriously.

We struggle away from home. It’s a fact. Not some belief.

Also. My “belief”, from a million kilometers away in Canada, shouldn’t effect fuck all what our players believe either.

My local team, playing really well at the minute, certainly not going to be a push over at their ground

Are you going?

I remember when we played my local team Exeter City in the FA Cup 3rd round back in the early 2000s, sat in the City end with my mates with my Everton shirt under my City shirt!

We had 3-4 goals disallowed that day and it ended 0-0, we then won the replay at Goodison (just!) 1-0, Barmby got the winner I think late in the game.

Was win win really, City got thier payday in the replay and we went through. Then played them in a friendly a year or 2 later off the back of the FA Cup at the real St James Park, we had just signed a load of players and I remember being really impressed with Alex Nyarko! 4-0 Everton.

I also met Gazza that day and got my shirt signed by him. Then I met David Unsworth and Kevin Campbell and they took my shirt to the changing room and got it signed by the entire team! Still have it :)

Bit of a nostalgia unload there! Always hope we draw Exeter, but it's not happened since. But have seen United,  The Shite (2-2 draw) and a few other top division teams there over the years.

We played Lincoln in the League Cup in 1993 and won 8-5 over the two legs . The crowd at Sincil Bank was 9,153 but the second leg only attracted 8,375 to Goodison.
I wouldn't mind going to this ,could stopover with friends in Brigg ,which isn't too far.

A quick search reveals that Sheffield Wednesday were originally a cricket club who went by the name “The Wednesday Cricket Club” (because they played only on Wednesdays). During the off season, they played football to maintain their fitness.

How does a club get Wednesday in its name?🤔

Like Curro said:

The club was initially a cricket team named The Wednesday Cricket Club after the day of the week on which they played their matches. The footballing side of the club was established to keep the team together and fit during the winter months. SWFC was born on the evening of Wednesday 4 September 1867 at a meeting at the Adelphi Hotel in Sheffield.

No ramjam, finished 1-1 as did the two ties before the 2nd replay. We were behind in the 1st 2 and reid then sharp saved us steven put us ahead then they scored late on to force the 5-0 game.Another 2 replays in the next round agaist boro, then out in the round after that.Played 8 games and didn't even make the quarter finals.Hard to believe that was over 30 years ago.

Probably not, just a little rant from me, but come on though, of all the ties they could of shown though. The showed our game against Lincoln hoping for a shock, they're showing them just because its them.

Was on one of 3 coaches that got stuck in blizzards for a while,  getting there at half time and getting told we were 5 up,  no one believed it till we got in ground,  bad fume went around like
Who remembers us beating Wednesday away on a Wednesday 0-5 in our yellow kit.

Some mad memories in that
Van Den Hauwe - Centre Half
Steven - on the left
Keepers catching back passes
Wank pitches

I was at that match! I was only a nipper and we went to every home game and most of the away games that season. I remember our fans were in a corner and Wednesday had the rest of the ground. It wasn't covered and we got rained on. 3 players came right over to the Everton fans corner to do keepie-uppies in the warm up before the game. One was definitely Peter Reid - not sure on the other two.
Steve Ogrizovic was in goal for them and when he came out to take his place in goal he lifted up his jersey and had a white tshirt underneath that said 'I love Everton' on it. That's my memory of it but it seems mad to write that! He definitely showed us his tshirt underneath- maybe my dad said it was an Everton shirt for a joke. I guess I'll never know unless one of you lot also remembers this?

Edit: just looked at the vid. Completely different line-up. Was obviously a different match. Can't remember the exact scoreline but thinking 4-1 or 5-1 to us.
And I was about 7 and got in trouble with a policeman for throwing a sausage at him after the game.

I think Sky putting us on TV has several elements. Want us to fail. We've kicked off big time on social media several times about their coverage. We now have some genuinely exciting players. We score and concede. There's been some goals in our recent games with Bournemouth.

Would it not have been Martin Hodge in goal for Wednesday. Steve Ogrizovic would have been at Coventry at that time, and I can't remember him ever playing for Wednesday. Ogrizovic is a red shite too, so doubt he'd ever have a shirt declaring his affection for Everton.

You missed out the big reason for games like Lincoln being televised there too.

We actually have a big fan base compared to other clubs in that round.

It had nothing to do with wanting/expecting us to fail and everything to do with how much money Sky thought they could make.

Hodge in goal for  Wednesday.

The t-shirt incident was Eddie Nizweicki (sic) while playing for Chelsea showing support for Big Nev when Nev was getting media hassle about cheating on his wife.
Nev had previously displayed a t-shirt that said, " I love my wife." Eddie displayed a t-shirt some weeks later that said "I love Nev's wife too.'

So, four Premier League clubs guaranteed to go out in the next round (our game aside):

Aston Villa v Wolves
Man City v Southampton
Chelsea v Man Utd
Liverpool v Arsenal

To be honest, I feel Watford will be just as relieved as we are with the draw. It could have been far worse for both our clubs.

With the game being a month away it will be interesting to see what our situation is by the time we meet up. In my opinion, nothing less than nine points from the games we have between now and playing Watford will be good enough. Mind you, if things go really bad for us, we could be looking for a new manager by then.

I think a confident Everton could tear them apart also.

I’d settle for Leicester at home if it was offered to me.

Dafter than that. It's on radio 1 at 8.45 am tomorrow morning.

I read somewhere that Arsenal isn't really planning to do that. Regardless, they're atrocious away from home as well, and Liverpool is unbeatable there. Even with their B team.

The last time we played them away in the league cup Gary Stevens netted the winner from outside the box. We lost to Arsenal 4-1 on aggregate in the semis if my memory serves me right. Perry Groves scored to beat us 1-0 at Goodison and Trevor Steven missed a penalty.

Remember that season well. We drew them at home in the fa cup as well and lost 1-0.

Now ask me who we played two weeks ago and I wouldn’t be able to tell you

we are nowhere near Leicester standards (chances of us banging in 9 goals against Soton ?) Play like we did against Watford “under the lights at Goodison” and we are out, pray for a vast improvement in form and a slump in form for Leicester, depressing perhaps but just being realistic.

After 10 games where they’ve been in probably the best form they’ll have all season, and we’ve been in (hopefully ;) ) our worst.

If you can’t be confident with a home tie against a similar level side then what’s the point of any cup competition?

Best case is City never. For whatever reason Pep cares about this Cup. Probably his obsession with winning the quadruple.

As horrible as it sounds, Liverpool would be the best draw because Klopp is the opposite and couldn't care less. Plus it'd be a home & home Derby!

Thing is, they will probably get their way and will not have to play their match until January by which time
they will know who their opponents will be, he might say fuck it and put some kids out against City but would be forced to put his strongest team out in a Derby.

So they’re not much better than us then.

Best case is City never. For whatever reason Pep cares about this Cup. Probably his obsession with winning the quadruple.

As horrible as it sounds, Liverpool would be the best draw because Klopp is the opposite and couldn't care less. Plus it'd be a home & home Derby!

Not sure I could handle a two legged draw against them :|

The point is you can be hopeful, which I am, but difficult to feel confident that we will beat Leicester based on comparative performances in the first ten games, are you really confident we will beat them ?

Not overly confident of beating anyone :)

But I’m not panicking about them being in the competition.

City etc are demonstrably better than us for a number of years and so obviously is a tall order to think we’d beat them in the latter stages.

But can’t moan about someone who we’ve finished above for the past 3 seasons.

Not sure who was happy drawing Leicester at home, but it's a tough draw. As mentioned; "it's 7 weeks away". Hopefully, our injuries and team play will have improved by then.

I said I would take that before the draw, and stand by it.  There is no way a Brendan Rodgers side, in a charged Goodison, is favoured to beat us.  They have a glass jaw and will be found out.  We will likely make the semifinals now, and whatever happens in the rest of the bracket - so be it.

And I'd like our chances just fine in a 2-legged tie against United.

Beat these and at least we've got a couple of games to get us excited. It'll be a welcome change from the joyless void that this season has been.

We can totally beat Leicester at home, form can change massively in a few games anyways

They may be in the top 4 when the game comes around and prioritising the league anyways

Theres not a massive difference between the 2 sides overall

Also every chance that this Choudhury character (is that his name?) Will throw in some mental 2 foot challenge early doors, get sent off, have the Goodison Bear Pit growling and then Theo Walcott will run wild over Leicester, propelling us to a semi final against the Villa

Up the 17th place, League Cup winning Toffees

We play Leicester away in the league 2 weeks before the cup game so that will give us a good indication . Home advantage should see us through

As people have said, we're playing Leicester in seven weeks time so there's no point in worrying about them.

I was a bit annoyed by the rest of the draw but to be honest, as long as you avoid Man City then it's a good draw overall and we did.

I'm a massive pereira fan, Chilwell looks to finally be coming good the little dweeb, Maddison Tielemans Barnes Vardy and the Turkish cb all walk in to our side.

Other than that there's not much in it.

Having Evans over the Turkish lad myself but he’s looking the business.

For what it’s worth.

         Pickford
Ricardo Evans Mina Digne

            Ndidi
      Maddison Tielemans

Richy                              Wobes

               Vardy

Oh god even you've lashed Wobes out wide! A sign of things to come surely.

agree with that side mostly, Turkish fella over Evans but either over big Micky keystone cop.

Pickford / Schmeichel honestly 50 50. Pickford more talented, but also much more rash with worse decisions.

Probably Wobes over Barnes but if I had to play him wide it'd be Barnes.

Richy gets in the side. Mina gets in the side. Digne probably.

Leicester have in general recruited really well for a little while, honestly think all you need is 3 good windows to transform your side, the smarter you are the better you'll be, the better the manager the better off again.

Have had their share of Tosuns with Silva, that mad Turkish forward, Ahmed musa, iheanacho never worked out really altho I do still back him a bit, same for Gray.

I did hear Brendan binned off their latest transfer supremo for his mate Congerton, so hopefully that will slack off... But I do know they've invested more in analytics staff, and they have a partner club in Belgium so wouldn't be surprised to start seeing some dodgy red bull style African imports etc

Will be interesting to see how the defence is when the team isn’t in as good form.

I've liked Leicester a bit lately. I think their teamplay and confidence all come from the fact that they expect to score. With a forward like Vardy, you just know that whoever you're playing - create chances and you have a good chance of winning.

We'll have to have a good defence and test theirs - a lot - to win this.

We are away to Man Utd. on the Sunday before this , they have a nice training run out against Norwich on the Saturday at home, not an ideal situation.

Their attack is unsustainable also.

Vardy is converting something like 45% of his shots at the minute. When they won the league he was around 25% and that's very good.

They could feasibly create better chances if Maddison and Tielemans step up again but I think it will falter sooner or later personally.

Depth an issue for them like us. Chilwell, soyuncu, pereira, Vardy get injured you are putting in noticeably worse players.

There is an immeasurable difference between the two teams at the minute. Confidence. Ours is brittle at best theirs is overflowing
