Agreed.

Although it's a pitty he's more of a second striker (in terms of this particular situation).

I'd be very surprised if that was the case!

Has he even played for the u21s this season?!

Not sure, didn't he score in the first game of pre-season against Vienna?

It looks better with Mirallas out wide and Pienaar probably playing.

I don't see the point of shifting Mirallas from where he's playing well. If anything, he should be put on the left to maximise his good form.

Also McGeady on the right would provide some support for Stones out there which he was clearly lacking due to Mirallas' free(er) role on Tuesday.

Yeah he did.

I thought he was going to feature more after that but that seems to have been the zenith of his season.

I'd love to see McAleny have a chance, he seemed like he was kicking on before the injury. That said he would seem to be suited to the second striker role as mentioned.

4-3-3 with Mirallas in the false 9.

               Barry
         McCarthy  osman

                Mirallas
Mcgeady                    Pienaar

Isn't Barkley much better busting from deep with the pitch in front of him, rather than playing with his back to goal?
Jeff: That's not the way to win.
Kathie: Is there a way to win?
Jeff: There's a way to lose more slowly.

err yes so any ideas as having him play as striker are just a bit daft.

It should be

Barry McCarthy

McGreedy Barkley Pienaar

Mirallas

He is but as a makeshift CF he does have a few things going for him. He has a great first touch and layoff, good chest control, he's 6ft 2 and solidly built so could stand up to bigger defenders. The latter point is not Mirallas' strong suit, Naismith could do similar but he wouldn't have the same control and doesn't have the same upper body strength.

The more I think about it, the more I like my own idea :)

Ha ha. Perhaps.

I don't think it's much crazier than asking any of our other midfielders (Mirallas/Naismith) to do a similar job though. I see a bit of Rooney's movement and drive in Barkley...maybe that's just me though. Again we're just talking makeshift solution, not where I want to see him every week.
