Cos he couldn't get a game and isn't actually that good a keeper

He left of his own volition after deciding not to sign a new contract! said he would leave a season in advance.

Worst career decision ever.

AZ are supposedly selling this Janssen on the advice of Moneyball baseball expert Billy Beane, who says Spurs are overpaying.

Juve to offer Bonucci a new deal to ward off City...

http://www.lastampa.it/2016/07/12/sport/calcio/qui-juve/la-juve-respinge-lofferta-del-city-pronto-il-rinnovo-per-bonucci-jqSRnftqMHxA5prXI60ruI/pagina.html

It's thought that he'll sign that.

Not clear whether Pogba will take up Juve's improved contract though (half of what Utd are offering).

I think they might be wise to sell Pogba as 100 million is a ludicrous sum. Also this saga keeps cropping up every year and it is wearying and consumes significant resources to keep renewing his contract. He is a brilliant player and a match-winner but he is Juve's third or fourth most important player and other match-winners can be bought with that amount of cash.

Bonucci is a different story. He is probably irreplaceable. One of the best central defenders around, Italian, a boyhood fan, a symbol of the club, a leader and warrior on the pitch, but perhaps most importantly the foundation of their tactical game plan. To sell him they would lose all that and would have to start from scratch tactically. It wouldn't be worth it for any sum. I think he will stay with an improved contract.

Benatia to Juve...

http://www.lastampa.it/2016/07/14/multimedia/sport/larrivo-a-torino-di-benatia-neoacquisto-della-juventus-tHimyfrRSBavzq2lgADrhO/pagina.html

20m

Benatia is a great player but it signifies one of three things:

Bonucci is off
Rugani will be pushed further down the pecking order
Allegri will be sticking with a back three

All three are less-than-ideal situations.

Gotze back to Dortmund. Their fans properly hate him.

I don't think this deal has anything to do with WBA getting value. I actually think that their chairman is fucking with the kid. If Spurs (who seemingly started this weird game) came in with 35m I imagine WBA would still turn it down.

He will only leave there at the end of his contract or at Xmas for 10-15. It's been a weird one.

Probably don't want to sell him in order to stop Pulis spending on all on players represented by his agent so he can get a phat cut of the money.

So this Higuain to Juventus deal is being reported with a degree of certainty almost everywhere - in much the same way the Pjanic one was - so presumably there is something in it.

I'm very, very surprised. It will be the second most expensive transfer ever (until Pogba is sold). Even with the sale of Pogba I wouldn't think they could afford it. It seems to mark a significant change in strategy to a sort of Bayern model.

In Naples as we speak (well, Sorrento) and I can say with some certainty that Higuain is now regarded as a massive cunt.

Yeah, reports over here of Maradona and fan groups laying in to him. Fair enough probably.

I agree with @GLewis. He's a great player but is he the one to take them to the top? Probably not with his struggles on the big occasions. The price is also ridiculous.

What's your thoughts on the deal?

Great deal financially, but he is irreplaceable. A lot will depend on how the money is spent, Napoli need another CB, RB, CM and obviously a Higuain replacement.

Icardi is apparently in Naples discussing a move :(

I remember saying just a couple of months ago to @claimabstract that Juventus weren't in a position to buy their rivals' best players and since then they've signed Pjanic and Higuain! This wasn't what I thought what he meant when Marotta said he would shopping in Italy!

Hopefully the Icardi reports are just a ruse to get him a new contract. He offers a fraction of what Higuain offers. Bacca would be a no brainer in my view! Great player available at a good price. Maybe the big money will allow them to attract a higher calibre of player than before in the positions you mention.
