The major con is what happens if the keeper fouls the player? Penalties are fine as they are IMO. It's fair and decides the match...more skill involved than people say.

I like penalty shootouts. Despite the result, I loved every second of todays. Can't beat the drama.

I saw the match in bits and pieces as I was at work. Even though we were knocked out on penalties, I don't think they players should feel too despondent. Playing with 10 men for most of the match, and still looking the better side for much of it, even taking the lead, goes a long way to proving to themselves they  can do it, and keep working hard, the victory will come. WBA next up, they should have a great deal of confidence to winning this game.
