Listening to Gough and Durham yesterday on TS made me start to think how sad it is that given how amazing he looked like he'd be that Rooney doesn't get a sniff even on anyone's bench here.

They were talking about how if Gazza had gone to United how different things might have been, but IMO whilst that may have worked out well for Gazza going to United is what killed Rooney's potential.  For so long he wasn't the 'star' or focus of the team, and got shunted around doing a job instead of being the lynchpin he could have been.

Rooney has had a very good career but I think blue tinted specs come into play on here when talking about him. Very few become the best ever.

There's no doubt he's had a very good career, winning titles and champions leagues and will break United and England's goal scoring records, but he's not been the individual player that he looked like he should have become when he came through with us.  The arrogance on the ball and the fearlessness disappeared.

Rooney's one of the best english players ever but he's been hampered by playing in the Prem. He needed to move abroad to truly develop his game. He's perfectly suited for English football now but he should have been sensational internationally
