We won on pens in 2002/03.

But all matches that end with a shoot out are technically classed as draws.

Ah ok, fair enough.

I've been impressed with Wijnaldum since he arrived he'll be a threat as ever tonight but other than that they're not up to much. Fully expect a comfortable win with this one and Lukaku back to his scoring best.
There are only two things I can't stand in this world. People who are intolerant of other people's cultures... and the Dutch.

Barkley is on a mini goalscoring spree and he likes scoring against Newcastle. The one that worries me is Townsend, he will be chomping at the bit to impress and looking for his first Newcastle goal.... And we all know Everton never let you down on that score.

I think we'll win tonight. Unusually confident.

I had always wondered what skunk smelt like. Never want to smell it again now.

Lukaku needs to get back on the goal trail. Vardy's taken off again, if we're not going to do anything this season, I'd at least like us to have the Prem's top scorer accolade.

Is Doumbia playing for them tonight? Add him to the goalscoring list if so.
Yes, we're being condescending. Yes, that means we're talking down to you.

I get the feeling Martinez really wants to play all 3 of Stones Jags and Mori

I'd personally give Stones a little bit of time out of the spotlight, especially at home and have Jags and Mori with Baines and Coleman in the full back positions. Hopefully a settled back 4 will help us tighten things up at the back

Further forward we need Lukaku to find form again as was really disappointing in the Swansea and Man City games

Start Deulofeu on the right as he really could tear them a new one and give their left back a torrid evening

I'm bracing myself for the worst as I no longer have confidence in Martinez's ability to set the team up properly and send them out with the right mentality. Newcastle may be a bit disjointed but, just like every other side in this league, they have players who can punish us.

I'll be ecstatic with a performance and result, though. I want to be able to be positive about this side but they have to show some type of consistency first (a run of three to four wins would do nicely). Until then, I brace myself for the inevitable gut punch that always seems to come.

Edit: I'll also admit that the confidence on here is absolutely freaking me out.

It's a bizarre state of affairs, right? Whether we score or concede first seems to be irrelevant -- we end up wobbling either way.

Maybe keeping things tight and scoring at the death is the correct approach for this bunch. It got us the three points at St. James' Park, after all.
