Weíve got some many once highly rated young players who rot and fester stuck in our under aged teams. Something is clearly not working. Hoping for wholesale changes but fear we are stuck with unsworth for the long term

At the risk of stating the obvious, Unsworth seems much too bothered about winning EPL2 or whatever the fuck it's called (playing Niasse), and not as bothered as he should be about producing players who might get in the first team, which should be about 98% of his remit.

Does Unsworth have any say about which players are in his squad? Every transfer window he mentions players that are too good for U23 level and need to go out on loan or get into the first team. Feeney is an example, who he's been saying needs to move on to further his career yet he has never gone out. He's said the same about Anthony Evans, Markelo and others in the past. From the moment that they are in his squad what is he meant to do? Just ignore them? They are club assets and if you have any hope of having someone buy or loan them then they need to be playing somewhere in order for clubs to see them. Playing Niasse in the U23s was ridiculous but what if he's been told to play him because a scout from an interested club wants to have a look at him.

It's a difficult one with Unsworth, I think he's just doing his job which is to get results, which he's done a good job of.  The direction of the youth set up needs to come from above and if he's not been given a blueprint to work with it's not really his fault if he's done things his way as a result.

Changes have to be made no doubt though, we need a blueprint that allows youth to prosper and also just slot in to the first team easily, which doesn't seem to be the case currently

His job isn't to get results. His job is turn out players for first team progression or of a quality to sell on elsewhere. Then rinse and repeat. Playing Oumar Niasse to get a result so you progress up a nothing league should never be acceptable.

Depends on his remit from the board, if they've told him to breed a winning mentality he's following orders... No one really knows what's been asked of him.

It defo needs an overhaul though, I think that's something everyone can agree on

He gets told to play out of contract players and Oumar Niasse then. Okay.

Well we can make that argument for everyone at the club who isnít doing what logic would suggest is required. Maybe silvas remit was to concede lots of goals from set plays.  Maybe niasse was brought in to trip over footballs

Look if unsworths job isnít primarily to produce players for the first team then the club is fucked. You kind of just have to assume thatís the job they want him to do because itís logical

Not sure why some people have turned on Unsworth. Heís been the u23 manager for 5/6 years and weíve had a lot of lads come through and get opportunities with the first team.

Off the top of my head Iíd say there must have been at least a dozen in that time whoíve been given the opportunity to stake a claim with the first team squad itís then up to the player to grasp it. Come next season we could easily have half a dozen players whoíve been coached by him in the u23ís in the first team squad, canít think of many premier league clubs whoíll be able to say that.

What more do people expect?

I'd guess him playing Niasse wasn't anything to do with his wishes as a coach and more those above him telling him he had to....same reason Ancelotti bizarrely played him against Newcastle, to keep him fit and hopefully get rid of him this window.

The whole setup isn't what it needs to be, that much is clear, the rest is just guesswork either way really

I canít imagine anyoneís told ancelotti he has to play niasse. To what end anyway. Heís genuinely so bad his stock goes down if we play him

It's the U23s though.

A shop window with the shutters down.

Unsworth is taking the piss now.

He's put the mayor of Liverpool on the bench.
