It's a hard call though.

According to rumours, we value Pickford at £10m and Sunderland want £30m. Let's say we want to sign him, do we want him for £25m in July or £15m in mid-August?

That's without taking into account clauses/addons etc.

If we genuinely value him at 10m 15 should be the absolute maximum and even then only if there's no other options. We can't be paying 25m for players we think are worth 10

That's not even the hard part. We could easily sit in a room with the club and "thrash out" a deal in an hour, meeting somewhere in the middle.

But then we offer the player a contract.
We can't force him to sign it.
He knows we want him at this stage so no point calling his bluff and saying sign in  week or else. So he waits it out as his agent is trying to get other clubs to meet the price we have agreed with the club to get a better deal for his client.

I think we're all aware, it's not a simple task signing a player. The easiest bit is the player actually signing on the dotted line. We've missed player's in the past by not getting them signed up quickly enough. Sometimes, it's worth paying that bit extra to make sure we get it over the line. As I mentioned 'they're very complex deals at times to wrap up neatly and tidily". I think we need to improve our approach to these things practically. We missed out on a few players last season over the two windows and we need to keep Koeman happy. :)

Steinbeck's maxim: “Socialism never took root in America because the poor see themselves not as an exploited proletariat but as temporarily embarrassed millionaires.”.

on Sandro - that 'sportswitness' on twitter or whatever is saying weve agreed the release clause and offered Sandro a contract, which he apparently likes the look of to the point were hes rejected Sevillas offer, probably doubling his wages.

Koeman was laughing about being at the malaga game during his press conference, assuming this one is a goer now, also said were working on a few already

Hope we get a few transfers through quickly as theirs gonna be quite a few leaving in the next month

Sounds like another potentially drawn out saga is coming.

90 page thread over the summer for him to go to Newcastle in September

I'm only here for the cladding/Bramley Moore Dock updates

Wow. I'm never happy though when things get publicly agreed but without us actually signing the player.

It's a proper Gueye signing this.  Would be a great addition to the squad
